How Many of you Actually Read Comics???

Ultimate Spider-Man and X-Men are just sort of running out of steam at the moment.

I disagree.

The 70's were about boldness and change and terrific characterization.
Not really. The 60s was about that (and a little bit of the early 70s). But after that it was piss poor storytelling. For example the 70s brought us the first Spider-Man Clone Saga (those three issues made me wanna put my head through a wall), the cancellation of X-Men, Stan Lee leaving both Spider-Man and FF, DareDevil moved to San Fran "F***ing Black Widow" Sisco, and the blaxpoitation comic characters.

There was a huge creative gap in the 70s, much like in the 50s and 90s. And it was filled in the 80s by many talented up and comers.
The 90's were about splashy pin up panels and piss poor storytelling with minimal to no characterization at all.
True, but so was much of the 70s.
And you just proved my point. Any Defenders comic from the 90's onward just simply sucked.
There was no Defenders in the 90s really. Just a short Secret Defenders comic that went nowhere. No Defenders in the 70s sucked so hard. Did you ever read the crossover they did with Dr Suess:csad: ....I did.:csad:...I went out and bought it :csad:...just for that reason.
The original 70's series was awesome. It may feel dated when onereads it NOW, but it was terrific stuff to read back in the day.
It really wasn't. It's like the bane of my collection. Marvel Team-Up wasn't much better, the Golden villain who turned black kids into Bling....yeah, it was that bad.

what about Lois Lane turning herself into a black woman /?? that was tasteful....

Yeah, that issue is awesomely bad.

Superman ate Kryptonite in the 70s and said it was tasty. Oh, and another thing that happened in the 70s. Batman moved out of Wayne Manor into a penthouse apartment, ditched the Batman for a simple blue sedan and they dropped his fighting skills by quite a wide margin in effort to distance it from the 60s show.:csad:

Everything currently going on in the Marvel Universe disgusts me
Its almost as if they sat down and made the decision"Screw it-Lets just treat the reader like an idiot"
From everything that started with Civil War to everything goin on in WWH-I promise you it cant be chalked up to laziness on the writers-but rather a conscious decision to not care anymore.Characters hypocritically contradict themselves and contradict the entire motivations behind their actions-
Its downright insulting to my intelligence and frustrating to even try to make sense of it all anymore. They lost all my respect once they lost respect for their own characters. And honestly,They aren't asking for respect are they?
Back in my day ,Marvel treated its reader like an adult.Whether you were able to comprehend like one was a circumstance of the individual reader.

DareDevil and Captain America still rock my socks off. As does Astonishing X-Men. And actually Messiah CompleX is a pretty classic X-Men storyline. Marauders vs the X-Men FTW.

Civil War and WWH I didn't care for.

Cap is the only Marvel title I'm currently reading at this point....

Based on what you both said-I will look into whats goin on in Cap'n:cwink:

I do read and love comics and I find it frustrating that (it reallys seems/comes off at times as) that NO ONE on here actually reads them or that they have only read stuff made in the last 5 years.

KB everyone has to start somewhere........not everyone is going to have read stuff from the 80's or 90's.....

It's a huge monatary investment to go back a collect books for years past. I do it, but I'm very much a comic collector. I don't expect everyone to read comics the way I do.

I'm following 'The Chosen' as much as I can....i dont really know where they are going with it though......
Isn't "The Chosen" their version of Captain America "The End" or something. Not reading that. I thought it was only an alternate storyline.

Also Thor is awesome again.

I'm not sure with 'The Chosen'......when I went to SDCC, I was at a panel with some of the main DC writers and I found out 2 cool things 1. a current character will end up becomiing a GL in the immediate future and 2. The Authority will be making a DCU appearance sometime in the next year or so.....

Oh I know it costs cash but you can find just about anything in trade form and cheap too (ie marvels essentials line).

I myself am a comic collector and love to track down the actual issues and don't own a ton of trades unless it's warrented like the absolute editions from dc.

Here is a case in point...if you go to the actual comic section here it's impossible to actually have a convo about them and instead you need to go to the actual heros forums for it, ie spider-man, batman. It's sad.

I'm not saying everythign needs to be serious, I'm al lfor fun obviusly but I should be able to ask "what are some good Dr.Strange stories" and actually get some responses other then the new BKV Oath book posted 50 times.

I've been reading for 20 years and I couldnt tell you anything about dr. strange. I actually prefer trades......makes things lots easier if I want a good read.....
