Bank robberies haven't gone down that much. I mean, yes, it's a lot less, but they still happen often enough that they're not really an "amusing throwback." Also, armed robberies are still a huge thing even if they don't happen in banks.

It seems like only the low level losers rob banks anymore. It's become a segue from one scene to the next that can be wrapped up in a few panels or 1 page. Like when Spider-Man is going from point A to point B and stops 8-Ball from robbing a bank on the way.

The Rogues still rob banks

The Rogues are thriller seekers though, that kinda sense, I think they like committing public crimes in loud costumes, because they think its fun to match wits with the Flash. That makes more sense then their motive being simply profit, because there are a million ways both legal and illegal to make money that would far more effective then bank robbery, plus the Rogues never seem get anywhere financially, they still seem to be the same run down hideouts.

I'm not sure if the thrill seeker motive works with the Marvel villains still robbing banks though.

I think cyber crime is actually a good explanation as to where some of these evil genius villains get their resources, guys like Mad Thinker and the Wizard can just electronically skim off the top of bunch of bank accounts and use that money to further their schemes.

Generally only idiots rob banks nowadays, cyber crime brings far more money, robbing banks nowadays is a high risk, low rewards proposition, most bank robbers get caught right away anyway.

A smart super villain could find a million better ways to make a profit.

Actually, most bank robbers don't get caught until they've robbed quite a few banks. We got a lady in Illinois that's been robbing banks in super markets for years. Still haven't caught her.
