The Avengers How should Nick Fury loose his eye?

I think it would be cool if it happened in the early scenes of The Avengers, as a bit of a prequel.

I actually don't want to know. Just like how we never know the origin of the Joker, we should never find out how Fury lost his eye.

However, having it be a birth defect might be the worst (or best) of those options.

Keep it a mystery or make it something that happened to him during the war, it doesn't have to be because of some big powerful enemy

Nick fury was play with an eye patch making fun of people that need one, then puts it and it had a thorn and he was blinded from that eye, having now to wear something he previously made fun of

Maybe they could totally flip the expectation, and have the eye still there, fully functional, with the scarring being entirely superficial.

And have him say something like: "What can I say? I dug the look."

I'm kinda sad that he didn't show up in Cap's WWII past, I would've liked if they just showed him and offered no explanation whatsoever to why he's still alive till today.

If I remember correctly, Ultimate Fury lost his eye to Wolverine. Sam even has make up that creates three scars cutting across his eye.

I'm pretty sure it was from a firefight. Fury nearly died, but Wolverine was locked in a cage the entire time. He didn't harm Nick at all, in fact he carried him on his back all the way back to base camp (this was during the first Gulf War).

This would be a perfect opportunity to do a Nick Fury DTV animated movie that would work as a prequel to the Avengers. Show Nick Fury's younger days and explain how he lost his eye. It would tie into the Avengers but at the same time it wouldn't waste screen time during the movie.
