I think it should be something out of TDKR. A bunch of hardened criminal thugs trying to take over Gotham, lead by a freak villain. They range from street punks,to Arkham escapees. They cause trouble for the citizens, police and the mob. Penguin secretly supplies them with weapons in order to off any rivalary figures, while he stays away from it. Maybe the leader could be based on the Mutant leader. Derek Mears could play him. A deranged Arkham inmate who recruits thugs and criminals.

that would be cool, but the mutant leader not really, never really liked him. I'd rather it be Black Mask taking control of them.

With Gambol, Maroni and the Chechen dead who do you want to take over the mob? Either freak or normal?

Definitely the Penguin. He has the good balance between freak and normal.

2bh I was thinking of what these villains bring: with the Penguin he brings arms and money, Black Mask brings money and fear, Thorne brings normalcy to a freakish time, with great white he's interesting he brings in money that he's aquired through his illegal business dealings and also immunity as no one can pin anything on him. Also, with Tobias Whale he bring in the idea of the freaks expanding outside of Gotham as well.

My idea for Black Mask.

Roman Sionis is the nephew of Sal Maroni. He is very narcissistic and arrogant. With Maroni in a wheelchair, Sionis takes over the running of what's left of the mob. He wears a hideous black mask as he believes it makes him look threatening. Sionis runs his own company, inherited from his deceased parents, however, the company is failing due to Sionis spending the profits on a frivolous and hedonistic lifestyle. Sionis starts throwing his weight around within the mob. However, when Sionis tries to screw over the wrong people, they play a prank on Sionis by welding the mask to his head so that he cannot remove it without damaging his face. Forced to keep the mask on, Sionis becomes sadistically insane.

The mob were getting desperate in TDK, I think they should be clutching at straws to retain power in Batman 3.

I like the back story, it would be cool if this happened before Batman came to town and Roman returns to destroy the remaining factions of the mob out of revenge and then begins to take over Gotham.

I'm tired of the mob, let's not hear much about them in this next movie. They've dominated the first two movies, let's see something new. I don't think it's necessary they play much of a part either as this movie should be mostly about Batman and his redemption or somehting of that nature

With the Recent news of casting and the characters confirmed for this movie, I'm curious of how Nolan will handle the Mob in this movie. The Joker left The Mob into pieces the last time we seen them in TDK, and in both Batman Begins and TDK the Mob has played a major factor in both movies. All the major Mob Bosses are dead and somebody has to step in to rebuild the foundation, the question is if nolan does continue to use the mob in his 3rd film(which i'm sure we will at least see the effects the joker left on the mob in tdk) who becomes the head boss? any suggestions or ideas u would like to see nolan do when it comes to the mob in TDKR?

oops lol...sorry i'm new, i didnt realize a threads been on this topic already lol, sorry guys lol

its okay, I don't know I mean thinking about it I'd like Rupert Thorne to be involved what with Bane being there it would be cool if they went the BTAS route and have him hired by the mob, but they did that with the Joker so I'm not sure. maybe Bane could take it over or something.

The mob was starting to fade out by the end of BB.

When TDK started, you could see they were struggling heavily with the presence of Batman, then The Joker came and they're pretty much dead now. We don't need to revisit them in TDKR. Just focus on Batman, Bane and Catwoman.

I disagree, I think the story of the mob is a direct analogy for the story of Bruce himself.

Bruce came back to Gotham to fight the corrupt officials, cops & mobsters who controlled the streets. Because of his involvement they retreated to the Joker, a type of evil Batman never accounted for. Because of Batman's existence, the type of crime he expected to fight will never be the same, because every new "freak" will assume the power a Rupert Thorne or Sal Maroni would no longer be able to represent.

It's an eternal struggle, a dichotomy at the root of Batman's character richness. Batman is destined to fight this battle forever now, because of the influence he's had on the order of the past. The threat he hoped to squash is now multiplied tenfold, under the new leadership of a different breed. A breed he's directly responsible for. The eccentric, theatrical supervillain

I'm still hoping to see Black Mask in this, as a deranged face of what has replaced the mob. He would be more than mere organized crime, he would be like classic Batman villains with gimmick thugs and the such - Black Mask's FALSE FACE SOCIETY is a very interesting way to introduce that element. I like RODRIGO 90's suggestion of making it more like THE MUTANTS from DK:R, and I think Bane is a good character in that regard. But Bane should be someone who manipulates the freaks in order to root out the man who the world believes instigated them in the first place: Batman. Maybe we can expect a gang war between the freaks and the sons of the bat.

I would also love to see more aspects of the Falcone Crime Family. Selina was hinted at having a connection to them, so maybe we will see that play out. Maybe Alberto or Sofia can be there as well. I love that dynamic at the end of the Long Halloween saga (which in turn ties into the Year One saga that this trilogy is about) where the very last remnant of the original Gotham mafia is a freak in her own right. Maybe they can use Catwoman's rivalry with the Black Mask to further solidify that here.

For some reason I have a really strong feeling that Bane is hired by someone like Black Mask for this film because they've been driven their absolute breaking point by Batman (who is now working out of the shadows even more than he ever has) and they need him gone once and for all.

Of course Bane will have his own plans.

Black Mask wouldn't the type of mob leader that we've seen in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, it would be a completely different thing. He's psychotic, scary... comparable to a horror movie villain. He would mix in very well with characters like Joker, Bane, and Catwoman because he is like them. He is one of the "freak" villains of Gotham City, the only difference is he has power over other people.

He also fits the theme of escalation very well... before (like the bank owner said in TDK) the Mob were criminals but believed in honor and respect. Black Mask doesn't believe in anything but terror, power, greed, and fear... that's how he takes over the Gotham underworld from the normal "mob" in the comics. It would be so different than what the mob has ever seen before, and it would make such perfect sense to have a leader who actually makes his minions wear masks when committing the crimes he orders them to commit.

With Maroni and Falcone out of business...who could be the new leader of the mob? I don't want Black Mask.

I'd love if they introduced Rupert Thorne and Tony Zucco. With Zucco I'm not suggesting bringing in robin but just have him there just for a later film and usually in comics and in BTAS hes shown as an inept and failing mobster of a small gang have him the same since I'd imagine the mob will all be destroyed in the next film with sort of middle men taking over. But with Zucco and it doesn't have to be Zucco it can just be a middle man of Nolan's own invention, but have be sort of the pretender head of the mob for Rupert Thorne (like Rossi) who is a city councilman but also the secret new head of the mob and uses his connections in government to keep himself out of prison as well as his men but also to get evidence against his enemies etc.

Barely existing, or utterly vanished. Period. It is the only natural story progression.

I previously wanted the character, though I now feel that with Bane he would be redundant. A mob war raging in the background--implied to have started in between the events of TDK and TDKR between Killer Croc and some other freakish mob boss would be cool. The twisted appearance of the two mob leaders and the viciousness of their war would be a good reflection of the anger that surely simmers in Batman in the wake of Dent being brought down and Rachel blown away.

I think it would work if Bane takes over the mob (after destroying Batman).

I liked the idea more of Bane playing the mob against each other and thereby against Batman. In my mind, Bane would slip Venom to each of the factions and let them go nuts against each other. Batman would get involved, get worn and then Bane would go after him.

very well said i and i very much agree

Bane will work alone without the mob he doesnt need them.Maybe Bane will even destroy them first to get them out of the way.

Yep, the mob's last embers should be all but extinguished. Now's the time of the crazies.

have middlemen take over who aren't all that good, but aren't they in prison cos of Dent? so it'd be the lower people who aren't very high up who'd take over.
