I kinda spoiled myself reading one the junior novels in the store earlier I will say if you earnestly want to know,
Stoick apparently dies trying to save Hiccup and his mother and Hiccup is made the new chief of Berk at the end, along with Toothless becoming the alpha dragon of the entire clan in existence,
I'm surprised the sequel doesn't have its own thread... well I just saw this movie and I liked it. I think if anyone was a fan of the first they should enjoy this one also.
A lot of what I enjoyed from the first movie is here again in this one. The character work and visuals. I saw this in 3D and it was really good, never saw the first one in theaters so I can't compare. Also they've added a lot more personality to Toothless with his reactions and behavior with Hiccup and some other dragon. Adds a lot of humor and I don't think they go overboard.
As for Hiccup, he annoyed me a bit at first but its part of his character growth in this movie. He has to learn that there are some things you can't reason away.
As for any negatives I might have is that I felt this movie could used an extra 15 minutes or so. Its about the same length as the first one but they are juggling a lot more plot this time and some of it just doesn't flow as well. The first one was paced quite well while this could benefit from a longer runtime.
Just heard the OST to How to Train your Dragon 2. It's so beautiful, it physically hurts. In a very long time I haven't heard a score that epic, poignant and beautiful as this one. The fact that his score for the 1st movie, lost an oscar to The Social Network is a crime against humanity.
This is honest to god my most anticipated movie this summer. Can't wait!
Why isn't this making more money? Why aren't more people talking about it? It's a damn fantastic film, even better than the first and one of the best sequels ever made.
Saw the new movie the other day and thought it was pretty dang good. Amazing use of 3D too, some of the best I've seen.
Admittedly the only thing I can't bring myself to like is Jay Baruchel as Hiccup. Can't stand his voice, it's just so annoying. Wish they'd casted almost anyone else. The continued cat-like characterization of Toothless was great too and had some hilarious moments (like him catching his tongue on ice).
I think I saw like one trailer for this movie the week it came out and nothing since, so maybe it's a marketing fail?
Saw it earlier today. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to catch it 3D. I liked it a lot. I spoiled myself with Stoick with this and upon reading more about where the story will go makes me sad.
I do wonder if they'll make Hiccup huge as the older men tend to be in these films.
