BvS How Would People Feel About a Zack Snyder Batman Movie?

People keep saying that but it's never justified in even decent detail.

But regardless, the only analogue we have is V for Vendetta, and there's a case of true juvenile politics in the adaptation.

You mind explaining how he missed the point?

Not at all, absolutely, and I've went over this before in the Watchmen threads. I'll get back on this though, I need to head to bed now. Basically Zack fails to get character a lot, and I'll explain the how and why if you can't see it for yourself later on sometime. Stay tuned. I just don't feel like getting into it all now. It's 3 am over here and I'm tired. Later.

Why do you have that screenname if you have so little in common with the real Kevin Smith? Did you have more in common elsewhere?

We both like comics. And Batman. That's enough. I'm not trying to be a copy of KS. I just like his work and the man himself a lot. That's why I have it.

One thing that i wondered about the Watchmen movie. Who re-wrote the ending for it? In the original script Nite Owl parked his Owlship over Ozy, killing him. The screenplay is by David Hayter and Alex Tse according to IMDB. Did Snyder rewrite this himself? Considering the writers strike that was happening at that time.

Really? A lot of ppl seemed to like pacific rim for the most part and it made some money abroad, which later got his new horror film green lighted.

I think it seems to get a bad rep because how crazy kaiju/mecha fanboys went over it, it's also easier to kick because it really wasn't THAT successful commerically. I didn't think it was amazing, It was a good film though, It's flaws became far more apparent when i saw Godzilla though. Guess that's what happens when I'm not liking it for the sole purpose of championing a mainstream Kaiju flick.

Also GDT has been riding on the acclaim of Pans Labyrinth for years, I just think some people are waiting to see what else he has up his sleeve that doesn't have to do with superheroes or action robots.

Speaking of (the real) Kevin Smith... I just watched this movie called Enemy with Jake Gyllenhaal. Still not sure how I feel about it but there are several scenes in this movie that made me think of Kevin Smith's epic story about Jon Peters and working on Superman. I don't want to give anything away but if you watch the movie, I think you'll see what I mean.

Haha, Jon Peters. What a character. I told my brother, who is a big Superman fan, that Kevin Smith story and he got upset.(At Peters, not Smith)

That story is hilarious. I've watched that video of him talking about it so many times. Peters sounds like such a total jackass. I'm glad he finally learned his lesson and stopped trying to meddle with Superman.

There was another hilarious Superman related story that i read online, i think it was on a site called bluetights.net. Anyway, it was about Nic Cage's screentest for the Tim Burton Superman movie. Cage wanted to do a "flight-test" for fx i guess, to get an idea how he would look when flying?

Anyway, Tim Burton told the suited up Cage to wear his Superman wig(Supes was gonna have long hair) and lie on a table, in front of a green screen and a couple of fans. Cage lost his temper, told Burton to go f himself and threw his wig on the ground. :lmao:

I remember that story, I need to watch that film!

Note: I dunno how much of that Cage story is true but it's hilarious anyway. I can just imagine his outburst. Someone should make a movie about the making of that movie.

I'd love for Kevin Smith to write a DCAU feature.

It will never happen (rather it's just not likely), he's stated recently that he doesn't feel like he has the chops to make something that belongs to someone else on a scale like that, he's fine with writing comics, but he'd rather make something that he feels only he can make.

I guess the experience of directing Cop Out really traumatised him. :funny:

Besides he's the guy who made batman pee himself.

LOL, why did he lose his temper? Because of the wig?

Mainly because of the shoddiness of the fx (with the flimsy fans) and the rickety table he had to lie on, pretending to fly. And yeah, i think the wig was a part of Cage's freak-out. That would be one hilarious scene, if someone made a movie about it.

Honestly man, have you watched any of the DCAU movies?

I'm sure KS could do better.

Aren't they mostly just adaptations of existing comic books?

Some are.

But the point is, on average the standards are lower than they need to be. Try and watch Emerald Knights or Public Enemies without falling asleep.

I find that DCAU stuff is highly regarded. I always see people trashing the Marvel animated stuff (what little they do put out) and praising DCAU more often than not.

I'm not a fan of cheap/rushed animation, which is what you find in a lot of American stuff.

Too bad everything can't look like Batman: Gotham Knight.

I think the stories are there though. They are pretty much lifted right from the most popular books.

I say let him, if this movie has a well done Batman then I'd say go for it

The animation is of decent quality on these. As is the voice acting. It's really only the storytelling that bothers me, some of these are truly awful. Superman: Doomsday is an "adaptation", but it's an mediocre one. There's also very little continuity between very little if any (???) of the movies.

As for them being "highly-regarded", yes, I've heard and read many people argue that the DCAU movies are so much better than the WB/DC live action movies, even including the Nolan Batman movies. Quite frankly I have no idea what they're talking about.

*******

I can't speak for the marvel animated movies, I've never taken a look.

Yeah me too. Pretty shocking some of that stuff. Shows how wacky Hollywood is.

I'm not the one saying it, he is. He just seems jaded by the whole big studio exec atmosphere that surrounds cbms. He recently reiterated that point when talking about Edgar Wright being pushed out of Ant Man. If that guy can't get his CBM made, how could big old kev smith?

There isn't suppose to be continuity. They are adaptions. Only a couple are new like Gotham Knight is suppose to take place inbetween Begins and Dark Knight. I will agree Superman Doomsday isn't good but most are good. Wonder Woman, Flashpoint, JL Crisis on 2 Earths, and Under the Red Hood are probably the best ones.

If so, props to Snyder. He's the closest thing to a purist WB/DC has, though unfortunately he's weighed down in part by Goyer and his unfamiliarity with original content. If MOS was universally heralded as good by fans AND critics, Nolan would get most of the blame.
