How would X-Men be rebooted?

How about Polaris?.... She'd be cool but Havok's been placed in the prequel era of the 60s and 70s ..... I really hope they "macguffin" it so Havok and the younger Beast end up in the modern era post X-Men:Apocalypse.

Don't think that would happen since I personally think they'll be moving forward with the First Class cast and actors in Apocalypse.

I would have them not have costumes or uniforms at all. It would just be about
a group of people, brought together by Charles Xavier, just like the comic but no
super costumes.

Maybe at the most wearing shirts and clothing reminiscent of their costumes, but not
costumes. Like Smallville almost. The idea of the comic is that they are just normal
humans with an eXtra power. So I would have them be that in the films. And show its
all about humans and evolution and such. Maybe someone like Magneto would have
somewhat of a uniform with his helmet and military styled.

Yeah, but the whole idea that they even have super suits to suit up in. Or that they are a SWAT type team with Riot gear. I just think it would be better if they were just a group of people with powers, no costumes at all, and they fight for mutant rights and against bad mutants and humans and sentinels.

The problem with the original five idea is that the lineup is kind of bland - not saying it's terrible since it's the classic but I couldn't see them doing that lineup and not adding Storm or someone else for some diversity on the team.

There's already been complaints about the lack of female characters in some of the movies, as well as characters of other backgrounds, I can't possibly see them rebooting and making Jean the only woman surrounded by a bunch of white males.

I think a little raceshift, Beast perhaps, fixes that problem right on up.

You had me until you said Smallville. The constant constant nods to costumes without ever doing them in that show irked me, personally. Little nods are fine, but don't go out of your way to nod to something you're never going to show. Blue and Yellow school uniforms? Supercool. Wolverine with Tiger stripes on the side of his yellow T-shirt? Facepalm.

I do think Magneto and his guys would have 'costumes' per se in an effort to establish 'Mutant Fashion.'

When it eventually happens, go right back to the roots. Original 5, cast with young talent and Professor X as a father figure. Make it a little brighter and adventurous, with a similar vibe to First Class's global travels. Get away from the cast of 5 whites quickly by going to Africa in the first film and recruiting Storm. Continue to travel to new places throughout the franchise, bringing in new characters as they go.

Each time people want super heroes without costumes...:csad:

The x-men have a freaking custom black bird in their basement, you would think a school where people train each day to better control their powers would refuse to use tools is just stupid. Cyclops has his glasses, angel needs things like a weather proof aerodynamic suit (maybe even air supply for altitude), they don't need to be spandex or thematic, but each mutant would need some quite peculiar as custom gear in order to accommodate their powers.

Only Chuck Norris fights in Jeans.

Need to stop the Wolverine movies first. And get a BETTER actor (not a giant) to play wolverine. Also not base the x-men movies on Wolverine!! (which is the worry about the new movie...i've seen ALOT of clips of Hugh Jackman :/ could it be another x-men wolverine movie! :(

Easy fix for racial diversity, make Beast black, make every blue character black :)

Again if they really want to push the diversity barrier, cast as much diversity as possible. Then make them mutants.

Take a black dude make up to blue sure, but also take an Asian for cyclops, a norwegian girl to play angel the guy, Iceman could be pure cg, or perhaps a brown dude. The trick would be to have a diverse cast in size race and gender than f* it over and mix it to hell. They're hybrids, mutants, no longer homo sapiens sapiens.

I don't think getting rid of all the white people quite counts as diversity. For some reason some people think diversity means 'non white' which is really, really sad. :( The goal is to get rid of homogeneousness, not white people.

Honestly, as I thought about it, we have a few really strong black X-Men in Bishop, Gateway, Cecelia Reyes, Frenzy and most notably Storm. You know what the X-Men don't have? Indians (not Native Americans, they've got lots of those too). In retrospect, I'd make Henry McCoy that guy. Gives the team some brown, something relevant (Indian-Americans are a lot more relevant in culture than they were twenty years ago).

No offense, but superhero franchises can sometimes have the bad habit of turning characters with monster atributes whose ethnicy is barelly noticeable into black guys, it seems incredibly hilarious to make the only black in the team the blue furred monster.

When X-Men is rebooted, the team we'd be introduced to doesn't need to be original line up, but it could be established that the originals are the same as the ones in the comics. I think a team featuring Cyclops, Jean, Angel, Storm, Colossus, Polaris, and Nightcrawler would be interesting enough.

That's actually a pretty great line-up! I'd add Beast or Havok to it as well.

Maybe this could work (and again I'm assuming a post /x-Men:Apocalypse reset that keeps some new characters)...

Storm
Bishop (let Wolverine concentrate on more solo movies:) )
Colossus
Warpath (brother of Thunderbird)
Blink (token teleporter in the absence of Nightcrawler)
Siryn (daughter of Banshee and already seen in the original trilogy)
Sunspot (power-wise, a suitable substitute for Sunfire)

(...throw in a mention that Kitty's with Nightcrawler in England and Rogue was last seen partnered with Gambit ;)... )

Then you can also have the orignal five of Cyclops, Jean, Beast, Ice-Man and Angel/Archangel operating as a seperate "X-Factor" team, possibly with the addition of Havok and Polaris.

Longsot may be tricky as people have said, but Forge and Jubilee could be worked in and any from the New Mutants would be good to have in a cameo :)

After Age of Apocalypse would be best. Maybe not exactly reboot but maybe something happens as a result of stopping Apocalypse. Like the universe resets or something. Anyway it can all start over. Except things are different than before. My ideal lineup would be

Professor X
Cyclops
Emma Frost
Nightcrawler
Collossus
Gambit
Rogue

Really? Help me out with some examples...

Martian Manhunter, Vision, now electro turned blue and the Spectre at one point too, just to name a few. Everytime there is a team without a character who wasn't originally black, they turn into black the one with fewer human characteristics and where therefore, the changed ethnicy will not be as obvious.

It's partially unintentional, but it still looks kind of shady, not very different than the usual rule of "Token Black Guy"

I sometimes wonder if X-Men is too stale to reboot. I mean, we're 6 films in, and we've got at least 3 more to go in this established continuity. Is Joe Public going to be hankering for a new take on X-Men after 9 films, and 20 years of Hollywood presence? It might require a lengthy hiatus. (Of course, Fox needs to make movies, so that will never happen...)

Yeah, for now i don't think we'll see a straight reboot, i actually enjoy it this way. When Superhero films start becoming more stale, which may happen in this or the next decade, i can see a hiatus where right before expiring the rights, Fox releases a reboot, hopefully it will be a good one, i'm hopeful for something like Ultimate X-Men, though certain things in there, like a world where the President freely lets Sentinels walk in the streets to kill people and cause some damage in the surroundings.

I do wonder when the whole genre will become stale. Critics are constantly predicting the death of the genre. The Superhero fare from last year had a mixed critical reception, but all four films represented box office highs in their respective franchises.

It can't last forever. The modern era of the superhero film has been going on for about 15 years. I can't imagine that there's another 15 left in the tank.

I don't see comic book films going anywhere to be honest. They may start becoming less profitable, but it will probably just force studios to scale back somewhat on budgets and releases.

I love Singer's X-Universe so I hope it continues for a good while yet. Not to sound like that guy, but when a reboot comes, I'd like it to be within the MCU. Could be fun to bring in mutation as a contemporary issue in that world some years down the line.

I knew some would misinterpret the thread :whatever: I'm not saying it should happen, i'm saying that a reboot will eventually happen, even James Bond got one eventually, so, when that happens how will it go?
I think you misinterpreted my post, I wasn't saying it should never be rebooted, I was just commenting on those suggesting going back to the original five... I was saying if/when they reboot it should be with a new team that we haven't seen (but, still should be a reboot in theme, tone, an over all feel) I'd differently would want them to break free of the OT set universe

which down the line could lead to reintroducing characters that were used in the OT, but, I think it'd be important to reestablish the universe over all first, then reintroducing those characters into that universe, so the changes to the characters don't feel as forced (change for the sake of change) which so, many reboots suffer from
