Hugh Jackman is The Greatest Showman on Earth

I love musicals but this trailer wasn't very exciting. I'm a bit wary of "feel good" movies coming out around the holidays. :funny:

It's definitely those post Logan feels, because this trailer left me sobbing.

a damn cool trailer and the Song Wow i have freaking Goosebumbs from it

Why didn't they just make a movie version of "Barnum"?

Trailer slayed me. Keala <333

I know he is so...alive here :funny:
I just can't get over how vibrant and young he looks compared to Logan. I hope Fox pushes Logan for awards over this though if this lives up to its hype, since people think Hugh could get awards noms for Greatest Showman.

I really wish Fox stopped giving terrible (Award-season wise) release dates to his movies - Eddie the Eagle last year, Logan this year...with TGS being his other release this year the votes will split anyways :/

But hey, another movie with Hugh this year is always welcome and he does look - and I'm sure sings - lovely here.

Anybody else getting a gross exploitation vibe from this?

Barnum ran freak shows, he was not a nice guy. This sanitized, Hollywood mythologizing kind of disgusts me. The shows he put on were not about celebrating the unique but a place to ridicule the weird. I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned before.

Yeah that's kinda what I was thinking too. I get that they want to make a movie that celebrates inclusivity but this movie feels like a fantasy compared to the real story of Barnum.

This looks fun. But the musical I most want to see Jackman in at this point is starring as Frollo in a live-action Hunchback of Notre Dame.

I appreciate them getting a little creative with the cliche back to the viewer poster.

What's opening against it? Aside from Star Wars.

Yikes. Sorry, Hugh. Even if it's a good movie it won't stand a chance.

All three of those movies look underwhelming. It wouldn't surprise me if they all have lower than expected grosses.

Star Wars is going to truck them all if it is really good.

I'm pretty baffled by the sentimental tone of this trailer. Barnum was a pretty awful person. He's history's prototypical huckster, which is a cynical status at best. At worst he was a man that bought an enslaved woman, marketed her as George Washington's 160 year old wet nurse and had her publiclly dissected upon death. I find the whole "man shows a group of freaks their worth" angle really offputting here.
