I was thinking of a few things in the last few days as to the state of Humankind.

I see many different things occuring to us as a race here on Earth.

Many people have said that mankind has evovled.
Well, unfortunately I see only one-thing. Mans toys have evolved.

I dont see mankind trully evolving, till we all have some global common problem that unites us. Right now, mankind is so fractured and believing each sect is better than the other by some sort of religious or secular belief, I dont see this changing anytime soon.

Truthfully, I hate to say so, mankind WILL come close to destroying itself in the future. I dont have a timeframe like someone else. I just see that eventually mankind's stupidity will win out.

I figure we will eventually destroy most of our population. At that point, I think mankind might finally learn a little bit more tolerance.

Granted, I dont EVER see us having a "star trek" harmoniouos planet. But I do believe we will at one point in time grow...

What do you believe?

We'll kill each other before we get anywhere close to growing as a species. It'll start in the middle east, where they act like 2 year olds who can't share the playpen. The US and our allies will then rush in, crusading for christianity and "peace", and the situation will escalate into a world war. The extremists will launch there nuclear weapons at us, and we'll respond in like to make sure we get them before we go, and then it'll be the cockroaches planet. And you know what, we deserve it, because if we can't learn to just say f**k it and get along with each other, then there's no point anyway.

This reminds me of two of my favorite quotes from Einstein:

"Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe."

and:

"I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones."

Funny I was about to include the WWIII quote from Einstein in my post...but ended up cutting it out...

:)

if anything human kind has devolved but has just found new ways of eterntaining itself

never before in history has the views of masses been so closely controlled.

caveman november rain wouldn't have taken this crap...

besides isn't evolution a way at adapting to one's surroundings better, yet we seem to be doing more damage to ours now than ever if i'm not mistaken?

oh and human kind will only set aside (note i say set aside) until it is faced with another common enemy it can unite against, possibly some kinda alien or astronomical event that could be dire for a large amount of the population.

Sticks with nails in them. And then some day they'll create a stick with a nail in it so big that it will destroy them all. BWAH-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!!

call me an optimist, or naive, but i dont think it'll go so far as the "Big Options"
when it comes to world wars. I think as stupid as humanity can seem at times, we also have this nagging common sense that continually pulls us back from the brink.

The ideas of control and powerlessness, while based somewhat in fact, are equally about POV.

I can only hope!

That's no bad thing. We don't need to evolve. We're already the fittest, and this ensures our survival. No need to evolve.

They almost never mention this directly on Star Trek but it's a post apocalyptic future. Just way way post. After they've rebuilt from the war. Between WW3 and the eugenics war (and their aftermaths) 2 billion people on Trek-earth were killed. Our society died and a new one was built.

That WW3 is coming, and that the west won't be the good guys. Beyond that who knows.

World War 3 will never happen. There'll never be a war akin to the first two world wars.

I kind of agree. to take a more perversely "optimistic" approach - WWIII will never happen precisley because of the Military Industrial Complex that causes and /or precipitates all the Wars in the world today.
They're a corporation- they've got a way of making money, a 'product', and like WalMart, they have their methods of 'production' on a tight leash. They dont want WWIII becuase itll mess with their quarterly report. too unpredictable.

It's so disturbing:(

I think that dinosaurs were to stupid to kill themselves so a meteor had to do it for them. I think humans are intelligent but will end up killing themselves. Whether it be through war or by destroying the planet due to humans obsession with bits of paper.

Which is odd because on the whole it wasn't the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy.
