Hurt Locker producers suing 5,000 BitTorrent users

I'm relieved that I netflixed this movie

I don't DL as much as I used to. Hell there are sites that host movies online close to DVD quality so DLing ain't even necessary. I don't know if you can readily find those obscure indie films but if you are in the mix for Oscars, you can be sure to find your movie floating around somewhere.

Yes it was. I worked in a video store. However we only got one copy of it and it was hard for us to hang on to it.

I was being sarcastic.

it got all the buzz because of all the people who saw the movie through torrents.
so it got all the oscars because of the torrents.

this is hollywood. they got all the money and oscars becuse of the internet torrents. but now they are going to sue them. heheheheh. hypocricy

Umm...what?? The buzz and money didn't come from torrents, aka: a bunch of spoiled kids ripping off something. It came from the independent film festivals it was being shown at.

HAHAA good luck finding me F******. Your losing your minds & I'm reaping all the benefits.

Hurt Locker was boring as s***. Not worth a buy or rent anyway, i'm glad I DL'd that piece of s***. Suck it!

Gotta' love immature people...with ADD.

^ Do you have some kind of axe to grind with little spoiled kids or something? I'm just confused because that's the second time you've used that term, when a major chunk of the BitTorrent community are adults.

Sorry, it's just a term i'm using. I know full well that a good majority of them are in fact adults but I use the term anyways. That's how I look at anyone regardless of age that thinks they are owed things for free.

I wholeheartedly agree with use of that term in regards to those who feel they have the right to download and not deserve consequences.

There are a million different variables in this situation. If 5 friends want to go to the cinema to watch a movie, they all have to pay. If 5 friends stay in and watch a DVD, only one of them has to pay. One of the friends misses the movie night and downloads the film the next day. He wasn't going to pay for it anyway, what's the difference?

Because downloading is stealing, regardless if you miss "movie night". Paying for a rental is not. Big difference.

If there were any other way to be a pirate in this era people wouldn't even bother!

This is doomed to fail, what if someone is using your computer without your knowledge? Or stealing your wi-fi? Surely you need 100% proof the person your suing is in fact the same person who downloaded the film. What if it's the IP of some 60 year old woman who's grand kids are the ones who downloaded the films?

Like I said, our system is built around "innocent unless proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt." If you can't even prove that you're suing the right person, that would certainly classify as reasonable doubt.

Btw, DVDRip of The Hurt Locker leaked way back in January 2009.

Just trying to say it was probably leaked to get some buzz around the flick...

People wont stop downloading. Its just these companies dont want to give up their current outdated business models. I understand all the pro's and con's behind the downloading is stealing argument, but Im pretty sure a very large percentage of those downloaders would not pay to see that movie if they had no other choice. Torrents def. got this movie the exposure it needed.

btw that movie sucked

That's a totally unsupportable argument. At the very least, torrents had nothing to do with the great reviews it got from critics. Or from the festival crowd.

As far as I can tell, merely a bunch of people watched it for free against the producers wishes. Probably in between watching Transformers movies and Wolverine.

While there are gray areas as far as downloading goes, a current commercially released movie that's going to be on Blu Ray within a year doesn't fall into any sort of gray area. And the producers are 100% within their rights to go after those people.

A buddy of mine watched it online, didn't torrent it. I watched it with him, does that mean I'm the worst human ever? For ****s sake, I even NETFLIX'D it after I watched it with him.
