Wow, I like this message board and talking to the people on here but don't understand the need for censorship if it's a lighthearted topic concerning purely fictional characters.

I made a few posts (at http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?t=283076) about doing the gay superman route and they get deleted (I didn't make reference to any real people or anything so what gives?). Is that sort of censorship really needed? We're all just having fun here and visit the site on our own free time. Freedom of expression should be important. If we still had the comic book code like it was back in the '50's we wouldn't have seen any such masterpeices as Watchmen, which was a parody of the superhero genre. Superman has been around for so many years now where there can be all sorts of different takes on the character. As a message board we should be allowed to take a concept such as "spandex", "man of steel", and "boy wonder" and spin a bit of a joke about it. What gives?

You are comparing your threads about gay superman to Watchmen?

Wow. Just wow.

Well, I try to have fun and inject some humor into my posts from time to time (I obviously know that the posts aren't going to be undeleted). However, you missed the point.

I wasn't saying my posts are pure magnificence or anything. My point was that there's more diverse interesting input when there's not too much censorship. If someone writes something that infuriorates you personally (such as joking around about heroes in spandex), it shouldn't simply be deleted without any private message sent to the user on why this was so. I've seen other threads (such as that one picking out gay scenarios in Batman comics) do the same thing so it would be great if there would be a visible standard.

Are the mods required to do this? No (I could be banned for any reason). However, I think the site would be more user freindly if they did.

The thing is that there's no real set of rules for things like this, everything has context. It's left up to individual moderators what actions to take in certain situations, and we discuss very general guidelines to be consistent, but for the most part it's independent. But we do have to keep in mind that children visit this site, and curb discussions appropriately with this in mind from time to time.

And as for your request about being notified - it's actually a lighter penalty to just have some posts deleted and then forgotten about then to get a talking to with a personal message of reprimand or warning.

The hype's turning into a police state :o :down

Somebody call Alex Jones!

okay it was deleted cause gay superman is just retarted .

Why is that person calling himself FunBob?

As for what people say, there seems to be a lot of leeway in what you can say.Be gratefull, when it gets really bad..that's when something is done.

was his username before he got it banned

As I stated in the thread in question.....we had a lot of trouble in the Superman forums because things "gay" could not be discussed intelligently. Every time it was brought up...it deteriorated into crude remarks, insults, and attacks.
