Hype TV Club does Game of Thrones in February!

Theon [blackout]killed two innocent little boys in cold blood on his quest to "prove himself." He deserved a great deal of torture for that, imo. The Starks treated him far better than they had to, so it's not like he had the worst life imaginable before going "home." He wasn't dealt a terrible hand compared to many in that world.[/blackout]

[BLACKOUT] He didn't personally kill them, he just allowed them to be killed. Not much of a difference, but a difference all the same. I wouldn't say it was cold blood either as he didn't make that decision lightly, he was pressured into it by Dagmar in the show and Ramsay in the books. And he laments their deaths later on as well.

He was weak more than cruel, and his original intention was to take Winterfell without any casualties and rule it in what he thought would be fair. He was a well-meaning weakling who got lost in his own foolish mistakes that were exacerbated by more evil men.

Personally, I think that what Ramsay did extends beyond torture.....it's just ****ing horrific how he dehumanized someone and reduced them to the lowest possible point of existence. That's something I'd reserve for the truly evil people of the world, and I don't really consider Theon evil. [/BLACKOUT]

Oh I'm not denying that what [blackout]Ramsay did was extreme, but people are talking like Theon is some sort of innocent victim, when his "weakness" killed two innocent children (and he was hardly a peach of a human being to begin with). As I said, he was dealt a much better lot in life than he could have been, and he tossed it away and got innocents killed, so while yeah, I can understand he's not "evil" in the malicious sense, I can't say his fate will be moving me to tears any time soon. Most of the evil in the world comes from that same kind of weakness, and frankly, I think ordering the execution of those kids for the reasons he did was indeed an evil act. I don't care how conflicted he was over it. That just means he knew how horrible it was when he agreed to do it. [/blackout]

It's the same reason I feel no sympathy for [blackout]Jaime[/blackout] no matter how much I like him these days. He deserved what he got, and more.

I think with me personally, I feel that the kind of thing [Blackout] Ramsay [/Blackout] did was something that should only be inflicted upon some like [Blackout] Ramsay [/Blackout]. So I don't really think that it's justice or Khama, or something deserved, if that makes sense? Like to me it doesn't read like an "answer" for what [Blackout] Theon [/Blackout] did, just another cruel meaningless thing that was evil for it's own sake. And I think when people "he deserved it all" is incredibly dismissive of how twisted the whole thing is.

Well there's a difference between "I'm not sympathetic" and "he deserved it all." If I were to determine what he deserved, it would not even have come close to what a twisted, sick thing [blackout]Ramsay[/blackout] did to him. But at the same time, [blackout]Theon has never demonstrated any redeeming qualities as a human being to me, and did some truly unforgivable things[/blackout] so I'm not exactly feeling overwhelmed with sympathy either. I mean, if someone HAD to have this horrific thing happen to them, I'm ok with it being [blackout]Theon[/blackout] over just about anyone else other than [blackout]Joffrey or Ramsay himself.[/blackout]

I have a strong hope that We flew. happens with [BLACKOUT]Theon but it will be with Sansa.[/BLACKOUT]

Did your opinion of him change any after the end of ADWD?

i'm not reading past page 6 yet, at least not spoilers lol but i am now halfway through season 2

someone mentioned that the opening sequence changes. i think iceman said it? well, i'd forgotten all about it cuz i usually skip through it, but while starting episode 4, i noticed Quarth was on there. is there a video or clip that shows the full transformation?

It helps if you know the map itself, looks, etc. You'll be joining the Hypes Watch soon.

Well I'm certainly glad [blackout]he finally escaped. I mean as I said, just because I'm not particularly moved with sympathy by his storyline doesn't mean I don't feel like he suffered a punishment way more than what he deserved. He did, without question. So I was definitely hoping his time with Ramsay would end sooner rather than later, and I'm glad if finally did.[/blackout] Does that mean I'm rooting for him or care what happens to him now? Not really. But it would be nice if the worst of his suffering was behind him. Because I mean, I don't even know how he could suffer worse than what he already has. And I don't wanna read about anything worse than that, lol.

This has all the ones from S1-S3, but I wouldn't consider it too spoilery to watch unless you consider vague mock-ups of random locations you don't know yet spoilers:

I believe Dragonstone (Stannis' hub) should be a new addition in the S2 credits as well. King's Landing, The Wall and Winterfell are pretty much always there. The others change quite a bit depending on where the players are.

it's possible. we're doing a tv show a month a la a book club, but that would be interesting

btw arya's personal assassin is kinda interesting. also, i don't really hate the Hound.

I kind of liked the Hound right away (well apart from that time he killed the butcher's boy in S1). I think it's just the knowledge that he grew up with a brother like The Mountain. No one could be pleasant after that childhood, but he never seems all bad.

Also, be warned. The actor who plays Sir Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane changes like 3 times, and they don't even find actors who look similar. Annoying. But if you find yourself thinking, "have we actually met this guy before?" You have, but you can't remember him for good reason.

the hound became one of my favorites when he fought the mountain... that part in the books with him drunk is great too

thanks for the heads up lol he's one of the names i actually do remember. so many people!

i have pretty much always liked the Hound. He seems like a good guy stuck in a horrible situation. he shows kindness and nobleness in secret moments

... and i've just finished season 2, all in one night. i'm not sure how i feel about that.

some of the things on the show reminded me of other things:

the rat torture was done in 2 Fast 2 Furious and what they did with xaro in quarth, along with Danys "friend" reminded me of Rodames and Aida

Agreed. And perhaps I should have chosen my words better earlier. I simply "felt no sympathy." :oldrazz:

If you already liked The Hound then you'll really enjoy him later on. Him and Bronn are some of my favorites.

[BLACKOUT]What did you think of that scene with the White Walkers at the end of ep 10?[/BLACKOUT]

Watching S4 right now. Took me a minute to realize that was Daario Naharis. Weird recast...

He looks nothing like the other one I know right?

Hound I liked following his fight with Gregor at the jousting Tournament. I just finished S4 this morning. Kinda right in he feels.

Also, [BLACKOUT]Oberyn's fate, yeesh. Kinda did the same thing as Indira Varma but without sound.[/BLACKOUT]

And dem White Walkers

Ahhh, you beat me Toonth! I'll probably be half way done with S4 by the call tonight.

they weren't exactly what i expected. i kinda expected them all to look like the one that was prominently shown on horseback. i thought they were creatures but apparently they are zombies of dead people?
