Hype's I Love Sushi thread (don't be scurred)

I have had boiled baby octopi and damn they are chewy. Pretty good though.

Baby octopus

That looks like a gummy octopus. I'd bite into it expecting a rubbery, sugary, fruit-flavored candy. I think I'd be disappointed.

I am a bit dicey on what stuff I eat raw because there are tons of health implications, bacteriological concerns, and toxins associated with raw seafood. Not to mention the fact that you can get Hep A, B.

Believe it or not a lot of sushi isn't actually raw.

They bath it in salt solution or smoke it. But fuga or pufferfish is raw and most other seafoods like tuna or salmon(lake food:huh:) sushi is raw.

Tuna and salmon are great though. I've eaten sushi 3-4 times a week for over a decade and have never gotten sick from it.

I love sushi (like California roll), although not so much on sashimi; I don't really like raw fish that much. But occasionally I would eat some, depending on mood.

No, they take(as provided by law) a lot of measures to ensure that their sushi is grade a but they cannot ensure that it be safe. Especially at local buffet places, it is more than likely not fresh and sitting out on the buffet line for a couple of hours...you would be surprised at how fast and how much bacterial populations grow and reproduce. They can double about every 20 minutes so in an hour, 1,000 bacterial colonies go exponentially large.

Raw Oyster are notoriously bad for giving food-borne illness and Hep A,B and it is required by law that these places have a sign visible warning patrons of the ill effects of raw seafood.

But if I eat raw sushi, I would rather them prepare it in front of me than grabbing it off of a buffet line.

Man, I'll never touch sushi at a buffet. I don't like oysters either.

I am a food science major, and you would be surpised...as it surprised me too...at the number of organisms and what they can do to you that are commonly found in foods. I am an extremely picky eater now and I try to put it in the back of my mind when I go out but damn...some of that stuff will freak you out.

We use to eat Thanksgiving lunch, leave it out, and then eat it again for dinner...helllllllll no.

Also, if you ever have microbiology, leave an APC agar plate open and exposed to the environment, incubate it for 48 hours and see what goodies show up. Now imagine that landing on your food at a buffet line and incubating under those nice, warm lamps.

I had sushi for the first time in Berlin a few months ago. **** it was good. So good I want more, but you know what? They sell none here and that my friends makes me mad.

I want to goto Japan and eat some really fresh sushi. Lots of places have a fish tank right there where they pluck the fish from the tank, scale it, fillet it and serve it to you right then and there. Call it cruel, call it what you want. I call it yummy.

As far as nigiri is concerned... I enjoy salmon the most. I don't really care for tuna as it doesn't have that much flavor IMO.

I did this on LSP.

The only fish I use to eat if at all was fish sticks and shrimp. (And land fish, huddla huddla)

Anywho, I started eating lobster, and scallops. Then with an Italian dish I had mussels and clams.

From there I ventured into tilapia and now salmon.

Now sushi is like the last stop. I started with shrimp on rice, then spicy tuna and crunchy yellowtail.

I think I even ate eel the other day. Now I'm like eating sushi once a week. :o

I love sushi, especially sashimi! We usually go for all you can eat sushi up here. Always an interesting adventure there, but lots of fun and loads of laughs. Especially taking newbie sushi eaters :o

Sushi is my favorite, I have it about twice a week.

Fatty Tuna is my favorite.

Best Sushi I have ever had is at Tao in Vegas and at The Sushi Factory in Vegas. Two very different surroundings but both with really good quality Sushi.

I did something similar to what Erz described above. I broke into sushi slowly... a few Cali rolls here, a shrimp nigiri there... small fish, pardon the pun. Then I went out with my sushi enthusiast friend who insisted that I order some sashimi. He recommended the small plate consisting of tuna, salmon, red snapper, mackeral, etc. I did and ordered hot some warm sake to go with it.

I get the plate and it is anything but small... there is so much raw fish on this plate. I was intimidated. But I was determined to go through with it so I started going at it. By the time I made my way to the salmon... the texture of all the pieces of raw fish that I'd already eaten was playing tricks with my mind. I was not having fun anymore... that's for sure. But my friend kept insisting that its bad etiquette to leave sushi on your plate... so I kept going and finished my food.

I wanted to die.

Then next week... I wanted more. :o

I ****ing love Sushi.

I've had a lot of damn good rolls in my day. Usually anything with creme cheese (frequently called the Philadelphia Roll) is really good. This one place near me has a spicy crawfish roll, which is insanely good. Another has one called the Godzilla roll, which has about 5 types of fish in it, all deep-fried and served on orange slices.

Also, yellowtail and smoked salmon sashimi is a must.

I'll try just about any type of sushi.

I rarely eat at buffets any more, but I've never ate sushi at any of them. It just always looked incredibly bad sitting there raw in a tray for hours: edges wilting.
