Hype's I Love Sushi thread (don't be scurred)

I haven't had sushi in a while, but it was excellent the last time I had it. I've never had a california roll nor will I eat one. If I'm going to eat foreign, I go all out

The best thing I ever did was get my very culinarily-sheltered boyfriend eating sushi. I even got him to eat a masago roll when we were out for dinner on thursday... gotta love that roe. The eggs pop between your teeth. Omnomnom <3

300gr vinegared sushi rice
2-3 nori sheets
10 medium size shrimps
1/2 cup Tempura
1 Avocado
1 Cucumber (long and even)
50gr Tobiko (flying fish roe)
50gr BBQed eel

Went to Mikuni's for lunch. :woot:

I  sushi.

I love love sushi, but if you look at it in a green way, the only people who should be eating it are people who live near the coast or main sources of fish. To get fresh fish (which should be used in sashimi [spelling?]) to middle america takes a lot of gas, which means emissions, pollution, etc. Fish can can be frozen, of course, but I don't think frozen fish makes good sashimi...

Just a random thought when I should be in bed.

EGGY!! :cmad: You haven't posted your experience yet... its well overdue.

Sorry, there was a disturbance :o

:ninja:

:)

Here's where I went: http://www.fuguuk.com/fugu-restaurant-menu.php

I couldn't really tell you what I had though because there was a large group of us, so I just tried a bit of everything

I'm impressed ;) I only ended up going the other day, so sorry for not updating you sooner, Mr Bleed.

Be happy in that I am converted :D

Edit: Side note, I was really surprised with a lot of the texture. I'd always imagined it to be like cold, fish-tasting jelly. I was very wrong and was very pleasantly surprised :)

It's definitely good.

But as the ocean becomes more polluted, mercury, dioxin, PHP, pesticides, suicides are already contaminating the fishes.

BTW, those California Rolls are actually a Korean dish.

Kim-Bab.

Japanese just flipped the rice inside out and added avocados and caviar, during the late 1950's.

Its Gimbap or Kimbap. And Kimbap is derived from Makizushi (rolled sushi). The California roll made its way into the scene around the 1970s.

Uhh no... kim-bab, or kim-bap, whatever the hell you call them, was a korean cuisine for over hundreds of years.

Those sticky rice were cultivated in Korea, including rice wine, during the Yayoi period, and were brought over to Japan. Japanese people originated from Korea, long, long ago. Do you honestly think people just spontaneously generate on an island? This is one of the reason why the Korean language and Japanese language sound so similar. Man, I know my ****. Take some Nutrition 7 class, or history for that matter.

For someone who doesn't care about the proper name of the dish you are speaking of... you sure seem to know your stuff.

The Korean and the Japanese language sound nothing alike. And where did you read that Japanese originated from Korea? Japan may have adopted some of their agricultural practices from China and Korea... but Japanese did not come from Korea. But... if you're so sure that you're correct, then please school me and post some links to prove yourself. Otherwise I'll call BS.

You seem to harbor racist views against Koreans, eh?

Go google it yourself. Or think about it. Use your common sense. Where else would they have come from?

You know nothing about Asian History.

So, according to your logic... all Asians come from Korea. You're the one who seems to know a bunch of hot air about Asian history and your assumptions about me are as outlandish as your "Asian history". Let's hope I don't "harbor racist views against Koreans" since I'm going to be there for the next year.

And as far as you backing up your statements. Let's just say you fell short. :down

i'm with knowsbleed on this one. i'm no expert in Asian history, but it sounds like you're generalizing and making stuff up, Zero_Vault. i don't know how the hell you came to the conclusion that knowsbleed harbors racist views against Koreans...

Why are you putting words in my mouth? Asians come from Korea? Did I say this? Really, check my post. Did I say this? Man, your blind patriotism is killing me.

If you want the truth, the majority of Asians originated from China. Koreans come from a Mongolian descent, and the Mongols are probably Chinese. So, in a sense, yes, we can say all Asians started from China. Just as all human started in Africa.

Just dishing out what you're serving as well. Making an outright accusation that I harbor racist feelings towards Koreans (where the hell you dug that out from is beyond me) is okay for you to say but anything I state is "blind patriotism"? What idiot juice are you drinking?

Still waiting for any sort of documentation about Japanese originating from Korea. No? Didn't think so.

No, I know the Westerner's mind. They naively believe Koreans are racist against the Japanese, because they saw a picture of a Korean kid drawing bombs and missiles flying into Nihon islands with the statement--DIE. Again, you must know a little about history, before you can label all "gooks" racists. Do you know why older generation Koreans resent the Japanese government, and feed their propaganda to their children? Do you know why Koreans, to this day, are still angry at the Japanese? It's the same with the blacks. Do you know why blacks are still angry at the whites? It's the same ****.

Again, many Westerners have been brainwashed by the Japanese government.

Let me tell you something: Over ninty percent of the Japanese restaurants are owned by Koreans, in Los Angeles. If you want real Japanese food made by Japanese, you need to go down to Garden Grove or something. So this ethnocentric idea, that Koreans are racist against Japanese people holds no water.
