I AM AMERICA (And So Can You!) by Stephen Colbert

Anyone else read this? While not quite as clever as America: The Book, it is still quite the amusing read. Though the constant foot and side notes are a bit distracting. What are your thoughts?

I'm pretty sure Colbert got the idea to put that in because on the Colbert Report he has a segment called "The Word"

Where he'll talk about a topic and as he's talking little foot notes, containing jokes to what he's talking about said topic, will pop up as he goes on.

Just a Guess.

I figured as much too, and it works while he is talking on TV...but to constantly be interrupted from the main reading is annoying.

I read it earlier this month and loved it. Colbert is a genius.

I bought the day after hearing Terry Gross interview him on NPR, which I think was back in November. It was a very enjoyable read.

And I was able to pick up the hardcover of America:The Book for 6 bucks at Barnes and Noble. I just haven't gotten around to reading that yet, since it's in a pile of books I've bought but haven't found the time to read. I'm still finishing up the last book of the His Dark Materials trilogy

I think the reference notes at the bottom are hilarious . It might just be me but i have to read the page sometimes twice because of the distractions on the side . However it doesn't detract that much from the enjoyment of the book in my opinion . I would recommend this to pass the time on a long car ride or something of that nature.

I got it when it came out and have read it once so far and I enjoyed it alot.

That is true. He once, well... more than once actually, told me:

"Bella, it is amusing as hell. Hell yes, it is, missy! You betcha, it is!"

Pics or it never happened.

I know that's the case. I work with some very stereotypical neo-cons and they don't get that he's satire. Even after I TOLD them he is. They think he is awesome and "tells it like it is". It's horribly frightening. :(

LOL yeah i have the same problem, I tell them he is laughting at you, not with you.

That is scary if some people can't be in on the joke . Like Bush ... I don't think he gets it.
