I bought a 360 about a month ago from Argos...it's working fine...but I'm getting SO worried that I threw out the receipt by accident. Basically I think I left it inside the plastic bag and then threw out the bag at a later date. Either that, or its somewhere in my room. Im turning over my room tomorrow in an attempt to find it.

But what happens if I get the Red Ring? I live in constant fear of that eventuality. Ive heard you can send it to Microsoft and they'll repair it...but do you need proof of purchase? I really dont want to buy a new 360 if I cant get it repaired. Does this apply to the UK?

What can I do to ensure RROD doesn't happen? :csad:

Register your 360 at xbox.com using it's serial number and You'll be fine :yay:

I tihnk I have a guarantee at Argos for a year...but I'll feel more at ease if i had the receipt. Grrr!

Thanks man, what does that do? Gets a warranty plan for my Xbox online using its serial number?

You dont have to worry. They can track ur Xbox by its barcode on the back. If u were to get the RRoD and you were to send it back to MS, you wouldn't need ur store receipt. My cousin had his go out and he sent it off w/out a receipt, no prob.

Red Ring?

I'd suggest to stop drinking blood out of a coffee cup.

What is a red ring?

The Three Red Lights, the RROD, the Red Ring of Death

AKA - the death of your 360.

Yeah my X-Box has gotten the RRoD twice now and I've gotten it repaired both times without my store receipt.

Reading that link it makes me wonder why it's not called the plaguebox

I've gotten the RROD about 7 or 8 times now. After it died the 1st time I sent it in and got an Elite and everytime I got the broken one back it would either already be dead (despite microsoft saying it was fixed) or die within a week. Id try to sell it but it would usually get the RROD again before the deal was done. I finally got it back for the umteenth time and just traded it in at gamestop. Just recetly my Elite died an just got it back. In short I hate Microsoft for all of this:cmad:

I've had the Rings of Death before.

No ********, the day I bought the 360...the very same day, out of the box, it had the Red Rings of Death and never worked at any point. Since I bought the thing only half an hour ago, I brought it back the next day and exchanged it for a working one.

Which broke down and got the Red Rings of Death again a few months down the line. Luckily, I had a warranty with Best Buy on it and got another one. Then, a few months down the line I got the Red Rings of Death yet again, then...suddenly..it went away.

Now I just got the E 74 code, where it's one Red light blinking. Now, I don't know what to do. I could maybe try and argue with Best Buy on giving me another one in claiming they need to hold up the warranty or just send it to Microsoft. I wonder if I had sent the thing to get fixed if I just would have dodged all the mess by now.

Well, after Xbox wanted to charge me $99 bucks for repairs, I managed to get them to give me a 50% discount on the price and give me a new 1-year warranty plan on it too.

I'll probably accept that deal.

These stories don't make me feel secure if I want to purchase a 360. :(

Yeah, I've been worried about my 360 for the last couple of months. I've had mine for a about a year and a half but I can't play a game for like an hour at the most because a box keeps popping up saying that the disc is unreadable yet at my friends house, it works just fine.

You know what, though? What bothers me most is just how bad the Xbox support is. It's so ****ing ****ty, really.

I refused to pay the money for a repairs. My reason?

I didn't do anything wrong. I didn't drop it, I didn't kick it, I didn't place it beside my heater or inside my fridge...and it's not working because Microsoft ****ed up. It's on them, not me, far as I'm concerned. Sent it to them under the 3 rings failure and if they fix it then they fix it. I'm just way too pissed right now to even care. They're ****ty policy pisses me off even more.

Times like these that I wish I had gotten a PS3. I mean, yeah...the extra coin weighs on you, but thinking about it right now....the extra coin is probably worth it when you consider that chances are you'll get a system that will not breakdown on you (yes, the PS3 probably can breakdown...but the rate at which 360's are going down are shockingly high) and far as I remember with my PS1 and PS2...they've got great customer care.

I've only received the unreadable disk message once. That was because I inadvertently bumped my 360 while playing a game.

It was no biggie, since I was able to get it resurfaced for 3 bucks. Plays fine now.

Wow. I got my 360, that december when it was first released and I havent had the RROD yet. Weird. But to be honest, I am VERY worried one day it's gonna crop up. I purchased one of those fan things, that you plug into the back, to prevent it from over-heating, a few months after the release of the 360. I wonder if that thing is the only reason why I haven't had my 360 die on me yet. But I do feel sorry for you guys who have had problems with the 360 and microsoft. That's not right. :(

I bought my 360 last year. I don't play it all the time (before I bought GTA 4 last April, the last time I played it was December when I was playing The Orange Box) so there's been no problems.

I remember hearing the 360 air fan cooler was hurting some systems.

I don't know how true that is, I've never even seen one in person...but I had heard something of that sort about the cooler fan.

I'm playing my PS3 a lot now since I can play my 360 for only about 10 minutes before it freezes or the disk is unreadable. ChrisBaleBatman, I feel the same way.

I'm actually playing alot of Xbox games and PS2 games.

Really wish I had a PS3 right now.

Replaying some games, like Splinter Cell Chaos Theory and working my way through Shenmue right now.

What sucks is that I have an unopened Lego Batman on my shelf and Fallout 3 is coming out soon.

Meh. What can I do about it? I must say though, this experience has greatly discouraged me on future Microsoft hardware.
