Iron Man "i Am Iron Man"??? (*spoiler*)

Does it really matter at this point? Considering the fact that the 10 Rings already knew Tony Stark was Iron Man before the rest of the world even heard of him, trying to keep a secret identity would be pointless. Not to mention that too many things pointed right to Stark.

Comic book movies have asked the rest of the world to be stupid in the past, but not THIS stupid. Then again, there always is Metropolis.

Oh yeah. Well, does it really count Marvel's probably already planning a reboot series as I type.

well Fantastic four don't hide it either. i actually liked that also. i don't think it was necessarily a slap to other superheroes, but he was following the comics. nicely done.

i didn't like Fantastic four that much probably because i never knew much about them or the fact that they not really to me, one of the well known heroes

other than being the first family of marvel and introducing the world to spiderman?:csad:

i know people give the two movies a lot of ****, but i genuinely enjoyed both of them. they were entertaining, didn't take themselves too seriously.

:funny: :lmao:

i'm sure they have a back-up script in the works. if this would have bombed...reboot

1) Everyone knows who he is in the comics.

2) "Loved ones"? WHAT loved ones?

3) Why make this like every OTHER comicbook movie out there? Why not think outside the box for once?

it's been far too long for me since i last read some iron man, but i do believe that for awhile he had a secret identity, but he is known to the public now or something

i dunno i am cool with him telling everyone he is iron man, like you say its something different. otherwise it would just be like Batman where he is hoping around from party to party dating supermodels trashing iron man to his "rich friends" etc.

I think the whole secret identity thing is very Golden Age/Silver Age, and just doesn't fit today's comics. It wouldn't be hard to figure out who any hero is with modern technology, and really, if paparazzi can get multiple upskirt pics of every starlet in Hollywood, they can get a shot of a hero removing his mask.

Besides, Stark's got a HUGE ego, and he wouldn't be able to keep his heroism under wraps. He gets off on being Iron Man. Peter Parker treats Spider-Man like a dirty secret. I actually preferred it when Spider-Man's identity was publicly-known, or at least known to all his teammates and fellow heroes.

And really, looking at the Spider-Man movies, how much has his secret identity protected his loved ones? I mean, Aunt May was captured by Doc Ock and thrown off a building. Mary Jane was captured by Green Goblin and thrown off a bridge, and then later ended up captured by Doc Ock and chained up in a crumbling building. And this was all before Mary Jane found out who Spider-Man was! It seems like she was safer AFTER she knew his identity!

What really makes the secret identity stupid is the inability to act when it should be a no-brainer. In the comics, during Brand New Day, Pete gets mugged and has his web-shooter stolen because he can't just fight back against a guy he could have flattened in two seconds. Why? Because he couldn't reveal his secret identity.

It's a weak plot device. I'm glad it's dying out.

Pay attention to what was done.

they gave us the entire backstory of Iron man in a few seconds(IM being Tony's Body Guard) and wrapped it up in a bow, gave it to us, and smashed the gift with a hammer.

and it FIT JUST FINE!

In my opinion this was one of the TOP 3 lines of the movie.

amongst TONY STARK BUILT THIS IN A CAVE!

:D

"Tony Stark built this in a cave, with scraps!"

I don't think it has anything to do with the filmmakers wanting to be edgy/different, or Stark being cocky.

It's Stark taking responsibility for his actions, which he was so conflicted about throughout the movie. I think the edginess and seeming irresponsibility of that choice are just a by-product of bringing his character to a logical (within terms of development) place at the end of this story.

He establishes his base of operations in Stark enterprises, and the avengers (and other teams) have hid out at Stark's workplace (thus proving increased security).

I think it's better that he released his identity on the count of him moving his stuff to a larger scale (Multiple Iron Man suits in his work environment).

that was my first reaction...that right at the beginning of the next movie, we'll have him deny it. especially since they "cut off" the movie. this reminded me of sopranos. gets people to talk.

It wasn't cut off like the Sopranos, there was a total resolution to everything in the first movie's plot. What did you want to see the full press conference? Also, I take it you didn't stay till after the credits, Nick Fury shows Tony the paper saying "I am Iron Man" so even if he did immediately deny it, no one believed it.

Also, even if it is taken as a joke, you know how SHIELD is, in any incarnation. Someone makes a claim like that, they follow up on it, just to be safe.

I liked that he revealed who he was, but now how are they going to get into the alcoholism of Tony Stark, if whenever people see Tony getting "boozed up", they know it's really Iron Man getting drunk. So much for superhero.

His identity is known to the public in the comics, just like the Fantastic Four - that's probably why they did it, but it's just a guess..

They firmly established in this movie that Stark is a man of questionable sobriety, if not morals. I think that when that escalates on future films it could create good drama.

For some reason, I think in the 2nd movie something will be done to make people not think he is IM

Yeah, you'd think when he gets so drunk he can't fly straight, people would start to question if it's really Tony Stark as well.

In Civil War Tony revealed himself to the public to set the example for the rest of the heroes.

Fantastic Four?

Well, it's somewhat different in my opinion. The FF weren't heroes at that point and were just trying to find Ben. In the process everyone had to use their powers and the people already knew who they were. They were even calling them the Fantastic Four already I think. So they never had a secret identity to hide to begin with.
