I have a question regarding the "PG-13" Regulation of the Hype

This is exactly what I'm talking about. The state of fear that the mods have put on here that cause some to believe that a poster will be banned just for questioning policy. A sad state here.
thats not just here yo. in a another site i belong to the mod told me "we only talk about marvel caharachters in this forum. one more time and ur banned. ok so i asked him "what about amalgam?" he said" amalgam is not marvel. Ur BANNED for a week." its insane.

The Hype's strictness is fine as is.
There always needs to be a limit, but if you start bending the rules more and more you'll eventually end up with goatse threads and no one needs that.

That is not true my friend, not true.

Darth, without a doubt you are one of the intellectual people on the Hype.

Um, probably not.

****, I wouldn't dare put my address on here. I am actually fearful of about 25% of the people on here. Would you feel safe if JAL knew your address?

Would bother me grill up some chicken and have keg...party at my house:woot:

I don't mind certain words being blocked out. Just cause I hear them on television, doesn't mean I have to read them online too.

But you guys don't. Every mod is almost like a cowboy. Shoot first, ask questions later.

You'd be suprised as to how much discussion goes into every decision we make. We're sorry we don't seek out your permission for bannings or forum switch ups or policy, Erz...but we do quite often, daily, even discuss decisions in committee, taking every side into account. So, until you see the washroom and can prove such a claim, I respectfully ask you do not make it.

Hey Matt is there a way to make private threads that are say "R rated" with invites only.

No. Its too easy to lie about age over the internet and that would leave the Hype liable to all kinds of shenanigans..

Do you have roundtables regarding smaller things like infractions, or can one single mod handle that?

You guys are like the Guardians. That would make Corp Ganthet.

Don't be condescending Matt.

Secondly, I was probationary banned for what 2 weeks, that turned into 1 week that turned into 5 days. If that isn't shooting first and not asking questions, I don't know what is.

Well to be fair, there have been times other mods have publicly questioned another mod's decision.

I've had some moderators use the words "power trips" to me about other moderators.

I don't know how many times a mod would come into a thread, ban someone, have people ask why he was banned and some other mod come in to say that they really didn't see anything that would warrant a banning.

Thats a very valid point. While the board should be family friendly i think a few mods do take ita little too far as Erz says 'going on power trips'.

I have to agree that does seem to happen a lot.

Listen, I'm not trying to turn this into an anti-moderator thread either, and neither is Darthphere.

There are many fine moderators who do a really good job here, Bella, Hunter, Bamfer, Show, Fire to name a few. I know they put up with a lot and then some. I'd just like more of their understanding of the rule guidelines and spread it out to some of the other mods.

I had never been put on any sort of probation until I posted a thread in the politics forum which included an article from the National Enquirer about the possibility of Sarah Palin having an extramarital affair. The thread was done as a satirical response to another poster's thread which used a National Enquirer article about John Edwards's affair as the basis for a discussion on why the media is so biased. Even though the thread's intent was to point out that the National Enquirer shouldn't be used as a legitimate source, I was put on a month-long thread probation because I "called out" this poster, even though this poster was not explicitly mentioned by name or in any other reference.

The thread probation was eventually cut in half, but because I used the phrase "Paultards" in another thread and called another poster "sweetheart," the probation was extended until November 5.

My issue with the mods' policy has really nothing to do with punishment or the infraction system. It has everything to do with being overly obsessive on petty violations, and their constant refusal to acknowledge that they may have taken posts which earned an infraction out of context. There is no way for posters to truly explain their case, and it often seems like there is a pre-existing agenda when confronting some posters over disciplinary problems. I'm not saying that all posters are honest, and I'm certainly not saying that all matters brought to the mods' attention are petty... but there are some cases where the punishments exceed the parameters of the situation.

maybe the mods could make a trial forum .........were even if ur banned he u can post in were can try to explain ur case.

My two cents:

If there wasn't truly a problem...there would be no complaints:o

I like the idea of putting in place measures which would hold the Mods accountable for several injustices. However, I think you are living in a fantasy land if you think that is going to happen.
