I recieved a letter in the post today informing me that I have to do jury service on the 25th of September. This sucks. This really blows. It's not that I hate the idea of being on a jury, it's just that I had plans to go to Germany like a week after that... so if I wanna go to Germany I can't do Jury service.

If I told them I've made plans to go away and I've sorted out my travel insurance and stuff, is that a good enough reason to get out of Jury service?

When they interview you for the jury selection, tell them you're bias against every race, religion, and sex. Or, tell them you'd be perfect for it because you can spot a guilty person a hundred yards away.

You should be able to get it postponed if you can prove that you've already booked a holiday. You'll still have to do it at some point in the near future though.

That's the same jury that Vicki has to serve on. Or so I heard  ;)

Yah I gotta go on the 5th. My brother went 2 weeks ago. At the begining of the question phase. The judge will ask if anyone has an excuse or some reason for why they can't serve. Depending on your answers ... you'll either get appointed to serve on another date, ask to stay for a couple of more answers or dismissed all to together.

The one my brother went to sounded like fun. Because there were over 60 ppl in the courtroom with the Judge & 2 teams of lawyers. Majority of the answer ppl were giving were comical. Like this one guy who said who couldn't serve this month. The judge says "How about I move it to November". The guy responds "I can't. My daughter's wedding is in November and it's out of state". The judge then says "How about September ?". The guy says " I'll be coming out of a coma in September". Room laughs and the guy is later dismissed.

:D

I've been planning and saving for ages, and have spent quite a bit of money already on this trip.

Best advice here, especially the last one.

But don't make it as obvious, everyone knows people lie to get their way out of it.

Go in wearing a turban, fake Santa Beard, and a prom dress.

When you go in start *********ing and tell the judge he has a pretty mouth.

:eek::eek::eek:
This thread reminded me of Ernest when he had jury duty and i thought wonder what Jim Varney is doing these days, imdb said he died like 6 years ago :(:(:( very sad

Say you'll be out of town...they never bother to verify such things.

You should get a t-shirt that say's, "I vote how the voices in my head tell me to vote."

Telll them to **** off & go to hell & that its ****ed up that they are forcing people to do something most do not even want to bother doing & tell the people there to die or something

Just be a man and go. Or show up dressed as a woman.

((shrug)) It's your civic duty. Just go and get it over with.

It's a duty that others want you to do. Get out if you can.
