They try to do that in all the films, and I think it is totally not necessary; I do know that they are trying to get girls to pay their 7 dollars for a movie ticket to see 'some' romance in a superhero movie, but please leave that out of Batman!

Bruce should just keep entertaining the kind of women that took a dip with him in his hotel...

I agree. Especially this early on in his career as batman, I can't see bruce having anything more than one-night stands with chicks.

He's only human. He's going to feel turned on when a gorgeous woman wants to bed him. Take the first Batman for example, Kim Basinger is ultra hot in that movie, you wouldn't say no would you? I think it's trying to show that Bats has a sensative side to him. Whilst he is fighting crime and kicking some serious ass, he is still a human being who has feelings for the opposite sex.

we don't need to see his sensitive side, he has his relationship with Alfred and that is all we need for any scenes showing Bruce having compassion...

The Rachel Dawes character was not even needed in the last film. I guess I am just getting tired of the damsel in distressed situations for these films. They can be heros without these idiot women putting themselves the way of the villians to where they have to be saved. I mean if it were me, I would say my goodbyes to the girl and move on, lol

Let the bad guy kill her, she wasn't smart enough to keep out of their business, she deserves it.

It's like Oh great, not only do I have to stop this maniac from terrorizing the city, but now I have to think of a way to get you out of harms way, dammit woman you are making me do more work!

Give me femme fatale Catwoman. That's all I need for a love interest. And have Harvey hooking up with Pamela Isley before she turns into Poison Ivy. :)

Wait a minute, David Goyer said it himself in the Begins Bonus DVD disc : [...]She's a strong character[...]She's no damsel in distress[...]
Go watch "The Journey Begins" if I'm right
Or if you remember the title, get the documentary where they talk about the script and Bale and then other characters.

Plus she was not needless love interest, she's his childhood longtime friend and she encouraged Bruce to make the difference between justice and vengeance and she was a determinated assistant district attorney who is constantly fighting for truth and anti-corruption. If she runs around the bad guys' plans, it's for stopping it, not without any point and being saved because she has no defense. The only person that could kill her is The Joker but I don't think so for now since this rumor has been floating around very long, it would be predictable.

EDIT
sorry for the double post

Goyer can say all he wants, but I saw no strength in her, she's good with a tazergun, i'll give her that...

Think of it this way, if Batman did not come and save her, she would have been a gonner...

And the directors say 'you have never seen anything like this movie' and they're always wrong.

I don't know how strong character Rachel was but Katie Holmes was really bad.

Wtf? Why?! Harvey's a happily married man.

Why is it normal man can have a love-interest apart from Bruce Wayne? He's good looking man, of course he's got have feelings for opposite sex but don't tell her "I'm Batman" bit.

Rachel Dawes was about as strong as an eighty year old mans erection.

Well since the love interest was one of the few things that WB demanded be in it, it will probably be in teh sequel as well. I would actually love for there to be one with Harvey and Gilda though instead of one with Batman. It would still satisfy the romance element, but make it more refreshing since it is with different characters, and would also help to personify Harvey even more making his transformation in Two-Face even more tragic.

Not really a rumor . . . but a colorful suggestion made by many people on the HYPE!, including myself . . . it's just the right direction to go for her character, and to fuel Batman's rage. The fact that Goyer has mentioned saying that she's possibly going to return (for however long that may be) lends to the idea that these guys might actually pay attention to us!!! That's no rumor, that's just fuackin cool . . . to think that we're being listened to . . .

For all of the more casual fans/moviegoers, who don't talk and/or think about Batman every single day, this would be a shock to the system

Now that's a great f'n idear!! Seriously, I really hope that WB notices this, because the love interest bs is getting real tired . . . I'd love to see Katie Holmes bite it at the hands of Joker, and YES!! GIVE HARVEY the love interest . . . . !!!!!

Thank you.

It's just one of those things where I see that probably no matter what there will be a love interest, but hopeffully WB has enough faith in Nolan to let him do somethign a little bit different and refreshing.

Also, if it is Harvey instead of Batman that's in love, I think that there is definately less of a chance that he will give away his secret identity in teh next film(s) (something that I would love to happen)

Since The Long Halloween is one of the books that influenced Batman Begins (although not that much) I have to agree with the poster above. Having the Harvery/Gilda relationship would be a nice touch. Also if they don't want to go with that, they can go with Gordon as his family is crumbling because they never see each other and introduce perhaps Sarah Essen. It would make Batman seem less human and more mythical if Harvey and/or Gordon are in depression, Batman comes into the scene.
Gordon: My wife, my son... they'll barely talk to me. I can't help but think theres something I could of done-
Batman: There isn't.

I'm not sure about Pamela Isley and Harvey stuff, but I agree with the Catwoman bit.
CINO must be buried and remembered only as a bad joke, like B&R.

In every movie there should be love story.

Without it, people will not be positive.

I think superhero movies should have something new in love stories.

The only love intrest I would want to see are love intrests that aid both characters (Batman and Bruce Wayne). That means there are only two real choices: Talia and Selina Kyle. Since Talia should be saved until the return of Ra's I think Selina would be a great addition to the franchise right now.
