    Happy Easter, Guest!

I just came home from it...

It was an ok movie. The script was not bad actually, it just needed 20-30 more minutes of scenes would have made it a pretty good movie (the acting would have kept it from being great even if it had 20-30 mins more of scenes). The acting was not great but not horrible either. Thats all it needed tho to be good, 20 more mins of filler scenes.

What really killed the movie was the pace. If they had kept the pace a bit slower, and actually explain stuff like how Piccolo escaped and other stuff it would have been quite better. The editing was just way too fast (I blame Fox here).
- Few more scenes to develop the Bulma/Yamcha relationship.
- Piccolo definately needed more screentime, to expand his character and develop it. Show his motivations more and his powers.
- Piccolo didnt really seem like a menace in the film. Since the pace was so fast Goku caught up to him in power really quick and you kinda didnt even notice and then the final fight was so quick u thought ''Wow Piccolo was weak cuz Goku pwnd him fast'' when in reality he wsnt it was just that u didnt see him show his power throughout the movie and hardly at the end.
- Yamcha needed a fight scene. He just needed 1 lol.
- The final fight had to have more to it. It was too short. What was there was great but it just needed a few more minutes of fighting and dialogue between the characters.
I noticed they deleted a heck of a lot of scenes (I blame Fox here) so I hope the DVD adds most of them. That should make the pace a bit better.
They need to make the sequel at least 2 hours long.

^ I agree the length of the film is a HUGE problem...

i told oyu that this will be short. but NOOOOOOOOOOOO . they told me that a 90 minute movie can still be great.

I really tried to give this movie a chance. I honestly wanted to like it. But it is just awful in more ways than I care to describe.

A 90 minute movie can be great, this one however, is not :(

yeah a cartoon maybe IMO.

but there is to much stuff for DB to be explained. its not enough to explain it. then you have to fit in a villain and the training. 1.45 would be possible. 2 hours normal.

There is one complaint that I don't really care:

"The plot is simple and predictable" Didn't DB (not Z) was simple and predictable? The three sagas in DB was almost the same

Search for the Dragon Balls
Defeat the bad guy
Training
Tournament

Agreed.

Thing about that is, if you're making a film, you can't rely on that excuse. Toriyama was making a shonen tale in a cheap manga format for kids. It had to be easy to digest for the most part, even though he was allowed to be adult in his themes every now and then. But when you pump $100 million into making a film adaptation, you had best be certain it's complex enough to draw in audiences for more than one screening. If that means taking liberties with the plot, so be it. But most of the liberties taken in this particular film with the source material seem to be for the worse.

I don't necessarily think so. Look at LOTR, Harry Potter, Narnia, The Forbidden Kingdom, etc. All of these have simple point A to Point B plots, and all are generally thought of as good. It's all about how you present it, and what sub-plots you use to further support the adventures grandness.

I hate when people say stuff like this:

Im not gonna bother giving long explanations since everytime I do I somehow end up banned. So, im just going to say. No, the plot in DB/DBZ is not simple. Its got a lot into it and its actually good. You could make an epic franchise with Dragonball (like Harry Potter or LOTR) if they were done the right way. Theres a lot of good material, story, character development in DB/DBZ to make like 5 or so great movies.

Unfortunately we were provided crap by Fox and you can say good bye to an epic franchise.

A sequel to this mess? no thanks. Hell, after this bad experience I dont even want a reboot. Just let this great series die in peace. DB and DBZ were the best. (GT sucked), so let it die in piece now.

EDIT: ok im gonna add just a little. If you are talking about DB, not all sagas were the same. For example the Tenshinhan saga was not like you described there, they didnt search for the Dragon Balls in his saga for example and there was no "bad guy to defeat" either, it was only Tenshinhan that was the rival, but he wasnt a "bad guy" of the caliber of Piccolo, Vegeta, Frieza, Cell, Buu, etc. In DBZ there was training (but not tournaments, only in the Buu saga that you had 2 tournaments) all the time, but the plot and story differ depending on what happens on each saga. So, no, the plot isnt simple and theres actually good story in both DB and DBZ. Another example, the first enemy of Goku (Pilaf doesnt count as a real enemy, he was a joke) wasnt a "bad guy" it was actually a terrorist army that was wreaking havoc and chaos in the world, destroying villages and such. You could start a Dragonball franchise using that and combining it with the Piccolo saga, throwing in Tenshinhan too (Tien). Like I said, this franchise had potential. Its all gone and over now.

ok its up on movie 6 i saw it there, the movie was ok at the beginning and it seemed like all the characters acted like they should but all of a sudden thing's went bad and the movie turned out to be garbage , piccolo was hardly in it and they didnt show any cameo's whatsoever which they coudl've easily done at the tournement scene.

I'm talking about the plot, not character development. There were a lot of strong moments in DB (Goku finding out that he was the one who killed his grandfather, the deaths of Roshi and Krillin, Goku reuniting with his grandfather for a day, etc)

It can be fixed you know? I wrote a very simplified outline on how they could fix this. Take a look and tell me what you think http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?t=321041

Again, I'm talking DB, not DBZ. It depends how you see it, for me there are 3 sagas in total.

Pilaf Saga
Red Ribbon Saga
Piccolo Saga

If you see it like this, the thing I've said makes sense.

Search for Dragon Balls
Defeat the bad guy (Pilaf -like it or not, it was the first real enemy, or at least a threat- Red Ribbon, Piccolo)
Training (Roshi, Karin, KamiSama)
Tournament (Jackie Chun, Ten Shin Han, Piccolo Jr.)

Actually, you can combine the "Search for Dragon Balls" with "Defeat the bad guy" because always there were the good guys and bad guys searching for the dragon balls.

And think about it, they made 3 wishes in total

1st. Panties for Oolong (Pilaf Saga)
2nd. Revive Upa's Father (Red Ribbon Saga)
3rd. Revive all the people who were killed by Piccolo (Piccolo Saga)

It's the plot, not character development or story. The main "objectives" or "goals" are the same, the story behind the plot is what makes the difference.

I meant wait till I get off work haha :D

haha ok. :hehe:

I think you should wait untill the whole thing is up. Theres a like 10 mins cut in the begining and one scene after credits.

The bootleg is only missing the intro and the Gohan vs Goku fight. All of that takes like 5 to 6 minutes. The other 4 mins missing are 20-30 seconds every once in a while. Nothing is missed from the bootleg version.

The scene after the credits is Piccolo being healed by an asian woman. Yeah, you know, the great menace, the great evil piccolo that almost destroyed the earth 2000 years ago was beaten after a 2 minutes fight and left unconscious and forgotten on the ground, just to wake up and to try to destroy the world again? lol. Thats the equivalent of a murdering thief that breaks into your house, you beat his ass (but you dont kill him nor tied him up etc) and leave him on the ground unconscious, forget about him, and you go to sleep. How stupid is that?, the murdering thief will just wake up again in 30 minutes and kill you off while you are sleeping.

See how stupid this whole movie is?. This is just one example of dozens about this movie.

How does she even find him in the first place? That's another scene that makes no freaking sense at all. Piccolo was in the middle of nowhere, lying there unconscious.

I just saw the film and Ipodman's review is pretty damn spot on. Makes me sad to think about what could've been. Glad I didn't pay actual money to see this thing. Instead I'll put that money towards something I will enjoy...like the seafood platter. Yum! lol

Ugh, the movie was chalk full of cliches to the point of embarassment.

just seen it man the acting is horrible chatwin is bad but man the guy who plays yamcha should be shot he is worse than chatwin LOL

piccolo was the best but he was barely in it

cgi is horrid what was the budget 2million lol
