I like Titanic

Not about the film but watched the James Cameron's Final Word documentary yesterday. They analysed the tilt and break-up of the ship - and it seems they found out some new information. Cameron said he won't change the film (they're not massive things, they got the core of it right) because if you start doing that where do you stop? Take heed Lucas!
it was a fantastic doc.

but Cameron is a little like Lucas. for the 3D version they changed the sky and stars when titanic is going down at night. i think this was a waste of money. because they are some f... stars.

So I read that there are people out there who didn't know that Titanic was real?
I'm sure there are, I remember when Entertainment Tonight tried to cover the Costa Concordia story and dubbed it as "The real life Titanic."

meh it's a subtle difference that most people wont even notice except for astronomers and that's why he did it. Some directors make small changes after a theatrical cut. Lucas on the other hand deliberately try to f*** up his franchise.

That astronomer was peeved about the inaccurate star formations in the film, and he constantly pestered Cameron about it until he relented and said "okay, send me the right ones and we'll fix it." If you think about it, Cameron was striving for historical accuracy when he was making the movie -- and I'm sure if he got the complaints about the stars much earlier during post -- it would've been in the 1997 release.

Other than that, the film is untouched. It's not like the SW movies where Lucas kept randomly adding scenes and adding in unneeded characters. It was to make the film more accurate to the period. I honestly don't understand the griping.

And if you're so bothered by it, there are still the original DVD copies out there you can get off eBay.

Speaking of dvds, I can't wait for the Titanic blu ray. I'm sure it's going to have more extras and features than we can handle.

Yeah that was Neil deGrasse Tyson. He tells a funny story about it on Colbert. Cool dude.

(Just putting that out there since I think your explanation made him sound a bit more *****ey than you intended :) )

Don't forget about the added scene where Jack meets a CGI Jabba the Hutt before boarding the ship.

People are really complaining about Cameron changing stars to be more accurate?

That parody's funny because many critics panned Titanic for being nothing more than a melodramatic action movie done by the director of The Terminator, Alien, and the Predator movies. They thought it was going to be another movie that extorted a real life disaster and tragedy to make it into a cheesy action packed romance adventure epic. There were even one rumors James Cameron was going to have Jack really survive the sinking and then chase Rose while getting aboard the Hindenburg during that disaster in 1937. There was some too the Titanic's sister ship Britannic being made into a movie where Jack lives and goes after Rose while losing his memory after the disaster and fighting in World War I. I like this version better because it was even made into a movie featuring John Rhys-Davies as the captain.

Britannic 2000 Trailer

Though it all shows me that George Lucas despite his luck over Star Wars is just another shotty director who throws in special effects to sell merchandise and the Star Wars prequels were just one of many unneeded sequels and expansions of the franchise made simply to sell merchandise.

Wasn't Cameron all, "I'm King of the World" during his Oscar acceptance speech, and then for his next award, he was like, "Let's remember the lives lost."

I'm going to see Titanic 3D tomorrow. I can't miss it, I was one of the crazies spending money to see Titanic multiple times in 1997 and 1998.
Then after i come home from the movie I will probably watch Titanic again on DVD.

Those Titanic dvds are going up towards $60-$80 on Amazon fyi, you can make a quick buck before the blu ray hits.

1997 cg jabba the hut is a bit more noticeable than some star patterns in the background.

Plus the special editions were hugely successful in theaters and widely seen.

Looks like Titanic 3D will hit $100M worldwide, thanks to a strong opening day in China (which is $11M). The original release made $44M in China, but thanks to the expanded markets today, it will pass that within the week.

I wonder how well it will hold here during its second weekend of re-release...

The movie was just great in 3D. And yet again it proved to me that it is the perfect movie. YES!

Saw this last night with my girlfriend. This was the best 3D movie I've ever seen.

Funny thing is if the Titanic had never sank all she would have been was a troop ship during World War I that might have been torpedoed and then later scrapped after 25 years of service or so during the Great Depression. It's not much excitement to talk about.

Indeed. It would have been known as the biggest of its day, but ultimately fade away as just another ship with time. It didn't last long - sinking on its first trip, but such a dramatic event really did immortalise it and freeze it in time. The story of the unsinkable ship that sank.
