The Dark Knight TDK vs. Titanic

How cool would it be if the #1 movie of all time is a comic book movie? :word:

Im certainly doing MY part: I see this movie twice a week. (As the buzz grows people at work want to go see it, so i take them.)

They should just pull the movie from theaters in late October and then release it in mid-December as a "last chance to see it in theaters" run. Pretty much the same thing Scary Movie did. Release the dvd in mid February. It's worth seeing TDK stomp Titanic over.

No it's not. I want the DVD. :cmad:

I'll be the underdog, I think it'll beat the Titanic...

It no longer seems likely that it will beat Titanic...but I say that WB should do whatever it takes to claim the top spot. I dont care if you have to delay the DVD and rerelease the film during Oscar season with deleted scenes after the credits. The people are pushing this movie, and actually CARE about the success of this film more than possibly any other film in history. If the number 1 spot gets within striking range, you do whatever you have to do...

interesting article on the same topic:

lol sounds like any one of the fanboy's in this fourm but like some one pointed out if TDK makes 2 million a day from here on out it will reach 600 mil and chances are this weakend's box office will be any where from 25 - 30 we could be reaching 500 soon and once where there its a leg raise to beat out Titanic so dont put baby in a corner just yet TDK can beat out Titanic all it needs is strong legs much like Batman Begins had :brucebat:

Oh dont worry if tdk doesnt get the number one spot Avenger's sure as hell will I mean think about it, one superhero is drawing in this much what will 4 or 5 of them do?!? :0 only way that movie wont break huge numbers like TDK is, is if it sucks lol so for now TDK take down that darn boat :hehe:

I dont understand that logic. Five superheroes doesn't mean a larger audience since most Superhero movies compete for the same audience.

What makes TDK stand out is that it appeals to people who would normally not be heads over balls for a Superhero movie.

well in my logic Iron man alone drew in 300 mil now when Avengers come's out it will be the first movie (unless that JL movie is made -_-; ) that will have superheros actually working together in a movie so not only will it bring in the IM fans, it will draw those Hulk fans, Cap's and who ever else is in there sure there still the same franchise but the sure fact that it will be marketed as a team of superhero's it will do a hell load but hey thats just what i think i might be wrong though. Also not to mention the main hype about this movie is that its Batman vs Joker, Avengers will mostlikely have a much bigger level of hype since its 4 icon's in the same movie.

what about piracy? it was not such a big factor ith titanic. if there were not TDK on the internet you can bet your ass that this baby would make more money. plus tickets where i live cost 20-30% more money then back in the day when titanic was realesed.

TDK is IMO doing better then titanic with money. but different eras.

Having a few extra superheroes wont increase revenue by that much. Its like when I book a concert. If I have My Chemical Romance on the bill, theres no reason for me to blow money on say, Aiden, since the vast majority of their fans will already be coming out to see MCR. It only really helps revenue if I add so many freaking bands that it becomes an event, like Warped Tour. So, since Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America etc all share the same fans, you shouldnt expect any significant revenue increase unless its seen as a major event in movie history. We all know it is, but will the general audience? Marvel is gambling that they will, and it is possible. It would be a much bigger deal if Spider-Man and X-Men were involved, but that aint happening. The Avengers movie is likely to outperform all of the individual movies, but not by bucketloads. If you aren't interested in Iron Man, you probably didnt see Hulk either, and arent likely to care if they are in a movie together.

Soon enough TDK will be "ON TOP OF THE WORLD!"

i could careless about the oscars. i really do. i think awards mean nothing. the fact that this movie is having so much good word of mouth means that people love this movie and that they are watching it more times. like titanic.

so if you want to give any comicbook movie an award(golden globe,oscars,....) then TDK must get it,nolan, bale or ledger.

but dotn give ledger an award because he is dead. it would cheapen hes achivement. if he wouldnt deserve it if he was alive then not now.

It should get to 1 billion worldwide and around 600 domestic.

BTW
but dotn give ledger an award because he is dead. it would cheapen hes achivement. if he wouldnt deserve it if he was alive then not now.

Since the performance would be the same, even if he was alive now, he would still get award nominations.

while it'd be great to see it beat that damn boat....long as it gets some breathing room between itself and 500 mill(say 515) then I'd be happy...

Just the fact that people are getting so excited over the idea that the Dark Knight is doing so well and may have a fighting chance against Titanic is enough for me!

It's just damn frustrating that a film like Titanic is so high up on the food chain despite its bad acting and poor dialogue. I'm not gonna say it was a bad movie, cause there were a lot of admirable qualities about it... but it's certainly not king of the world. It's almost like it cheated its way to the top by having such a long running time; no other movie stands much of a chance.

WB will make a killing on TDK's DVD release for Christmas, so they will not delay that. Hundreds of millions are at stake here.

For those who think Titanic got to where it was just because it was in theaters for 9 months, you also have to look at how much it dropped per week. It didn't drop over 40% on any weekend until week 38. TDK's already making 40-50% drops during its 3-week run so far, which still translate to huge numbers, but it'll have to do under-20% drops from here on out to reach $600 million. That is not happening in this current marketplace, not when you're working with numbers this big.

The talk of beating Titanic will definitely raise even more awareness, LOL, and when it reaches $500 million (I definitely think it will), it will be sitting pretty because no other film has reached that milestone. Besides the one that earned $600 million, of course. :oldrazz:

(And shush about the talk of adjusted numbers! :o )

I know the DVD is coming out for Zodmas, but the least they can do is push the heck out of it as long as possible...when is the Oscars? When Heath gets nominated...I mean WINS...it will be a good opportunity to expose even more people to his performance. Halloween is a good time to see a movie about people in costumes...

and Dark B...as much as I love the support for the film...Heath deserves an Ooscar for Best Supporting Actor. Its one of, if not THE best villian portrayals in cinema history. However, Bale's performance is not Oscar caliber in this film, and he should not be nominated. The augmented voice alone keeps it from being Oscar worthy, which apparently was not all of his own doing.

Yes, but TDK will still be in theaters at October, I think. Dollar theaters, but...anyway.

Oscar noms come out in January (this year they were announced the day Heath died) and the award ceremony is in February.

It will be a good opportunity for WB to make some more bucks from DVD sales, if TDK wins some Oscars. :oldrazz:

Okay...so it wont still be out come Oscar time...nor should it be...thanks for clearing that up (I have never watched the Oscars, but will next year if Heath is nominated)

I'd love for it to beat out Titanic, but come on lets get real it's Titanic.

it cheated? cheated who?
only fanboys are desperate for more money.
bob and angelina from the street dont care how much money TDK makes. they liked the movie. and this is what matters to them.

cheated? whats this kindergarten? it was a way to make milions for the studio. good for them to find a way to make more money. i respect them. bravo. plus they won an oscar.

hahahhah cheated. please.
