The buzz right now is to see if The Dark Knight will come close to the domestic numbers of Titanic ($600.8 M) and perhaps pass it at the box office. One thing I noticed is movies today last an average of 16 weeks or 80-90 days in theaters. Titanic was in theaters for a total of 42 weeks which comes to a total of 288 days. I'm not sure if The Dark Knight will pass Titanic, but if it was to have the same amount of time in theaters as Titanic, I'm sure it would pass it completely by at least $100 M. Just an observation.
The Dark Knight still doesn't stand a chance to beat the worldwide numbers Titanic reached, but who knows, Japan, South Korea, and a few other countries still have not released the movie. Just hopeful wishing.

Nah, it won't cross $550 million domestic. Nothing wrong with making $500-550 million domestic though. That's a $300+ million increase over BB (assuming a $505 million or higher total). And its overseas total is going to increase a lot too. Begins only made $166 million overseas and TDK is headed for $400-450 million overseas.

If Titanic does 600 million in 42 weeks.

TDK does 400 million in 4 weeks.

I think it can do another 200 million over 12 weeks.

16 million dollar weeks.

Possibly, not propable.

After today, TDK should cross $400 million dollars domestically. Meaning, it'd have to accumulate more than $2,788,188 dollars during the remainder of its run in theaters in order to beat Titanic at the domestic BO.

To quote Pirates of the Caribbean 1:

"It's not possible."
"Not probable."

I think it could make it, it is yet to be released in a couple of countries soon so you never

TDK won't beat Titanic. Quit dreaming.

Honestly I could really care less if it gets near Titanic status or not.

Still, this movie is looking to potentially take the #2 spot of all time.

Now that's something to be pretty damn happy about.

Well ya definitly, I agree 100%, but I mean we all loved the film regardless of how close it gets to Titanic or not, I just feel too many people are pushing for that for the wrong reasons.

Honestly, I just don't see the film getting past $550 million. Now, if it could manage to get $50,000,000 per week, then in four weeks it would have $200,000,000.

But honestly, I am anything but effective at interpreting/predicting box office. Hell, I don't even know how much TDK is averaging per day during the work week.

I personally don't see it beating Titanic. But I'm not gonna shut the door on it completely. Maybe leave it cracked.

the sole reason it wont beat titanic or is very unlikely to beat it is because titanic was in the cinema for like 9 months. with all the money that can be made from DVD sales these days i doubt TDK will be in cinemas longer than 5 months. but if TDK was in cinemas exactly the same amount of time titanic was, it would absolutly trounce it.

Your right Ace, TDK will definitly go to home video alot quicker than Titanic did.

Still, TDK made half of Titanic's domestic take in just three weeks.

Titanic made its fortune over an expanded amount of time. TDK is just pulling huge money in all at once.

yea exactly, so if TDK was in the cinema for 9 months like titanic we could easily see numbers like $800mill.

It won't beat Titanic.

However, wind the clock back a year, did anyone honestly predict that we would be comparing The Dark Knight's box office success with Titanic?! That works for me! Also, one Dark Knight run over 3 combined Star Wars runs would be nice too. :)

The DVD is hitting in December, yes?

I do not see why this movie can not have a fairly stable theater presence through October - that would give it 14 more weeks.

15 Million Dollar Average per week would give us the number we need.

Titanic Has Great Effects, yes. But Damn that movie pisses me off!

I don't remember where, but I do remember reading a December release date for the DVD.

Yep, not going to happen.

The way I look at it is TDK will take the #2 spot and beat a movie (Star Wars) that came out 30+ years ago. A movie that might I add couldn't be dethroned by PotC, Spiderman and Shrek. That's pretty impressive when you think about it.

Titanic is in a league of it's own. The film was in theaters for almost a year, twice as long as most recent movies. Until a movie is given a fair shot at a 9 month run or inflation goes crazy, Titanic will always stay #1. Sad, but true.

Star Wars total accounts for it's THREE theatrical releases in 1977, 1982, and 1997.

That 9-month thing is somewhat bogus, it's a different era now. If people demand TDK in theatres for 9-months, it'll be there. Demand'll slow down soon unfortunately.
