This Thread is for people Who enjoyed Superman Returns. (The Haters have their own thread so I'll ask politely not to post here)
Now I loved Superman Returns immensely, but still Had problems with some aspects of the film. What are some nit picks that you had about the film after viewing it?

Mine are:
Lex Luthor Kryptonian Crystal scheme- Not so much the scheme itself but the explanation of it. It's stated that using the crystal (+ water) will cause the landmass to grow, which is a nod to how the Fortress of Solitude was created in Superman the movie. IIRC, in STM wasn't the the only crystal capable of doing that the green Crystal.(thus it wasn't even clearly explained how it worked, which worked to the benefit of the story) The rest of the Crystals were just information/storage crystals or a means for Superman to converse with Jor-El. It didn't really add up to me.

The suit- It looked better on film than it did on that Press photo, but i still didn't like it.

John Ottman- I was very resistant to have him score the movie from the start and my opinion still stands on this issue. Much of the adaptation of Williams' themes I found to be lousy (save the main/end title theme which I found adequate) and his orignal material was boring and forgettable.

Parker Posey- I don't have to explain this one.

that's all you've got?

There's so many and I'm not a hater, I'm a half hater/half lover... you can all me... mudbloood AH no, call me an independent person....

Well I have one that's been bothering me. What's with the uh... suit cases at the planet and clark looking for a place to live. I wonder where he lives in the movie.

no, we dont have a thread to call our own... it was closed.

That's what I have for now.

I know. I'm talking about the ones that really bugged me, not the tiny ones.

here's another nitty nit pick

 Then why do you constantly bash the movie and give it a 1/10?

You must be thinking of someone else. I gave the movie a 7/10 mostly for Jason. I thought it would have been terrible for me if not for the Kid.

I love SR, but...wait a second. I loved it. So did my girlfrined who I have converted to a Super Man fan. So that's a win win for me. It's great, nit picking makes us no better that Harry Know it all. Now aint that cool.

SR is my favorite movie to date :D i give it a 20/10 yes you see it right 20 outta 10

I knew you liked the kid, but you pretty much bash the movie for everything else.

The kid is great. I voted 1 before I saw the movie. I just like to do that. *shrugs* I don't bash everything else, there are some other things besides the kid that don't deserve bashing, like the... like... hmm... ah ha... jimmy and the burrito.

In my review, it's a 7/10.

This thread needs to be renamed.

I loved SR...........

I thought it was designed for a specific purpose.

Remember this is a Superman Returns Lover Nitpick thread. It's not really nitpicking in the convential sense. (picking apart a movie you hate right on down to silly flaws)

I liked the movie... Acting, actors, and story was great, but everything else was horrible. the suit, the flying, Metropolis...

Critical thinking is a serious business.

Well one I have now is this one that's been nagging me for some time...

Why was my favorite character in the whole world turned ******ed at the end of the movie? Here's what I mean: Ok, imagine you're 5 or 6 and you just threw a piano. What would your first question be to your mom about that? In fact, what would you do once you discovered these great He-man powers. I know what I'd do. I'd test how much more heavy stuff I can pick up and throw. His behavior seemed rather odd to me, that is all.

Well to each his own, depends on personality traits.

Personally I would be scared as hell- what just happened? Who am I? What's happened to me? Also, I would be silent about it for a long time after that- when I'm scared about something, I typically do not like to talk about it.

So, that's not really a flaw- just a difference in personality. Not everyone would be hyped up about the fact that they have super powers, it would be a scary notion- it would mean being different.

I just know that personally, I wouldn't be excited. I would be conflicted, but mostly scared about what happens next...

I can't Believe I left this out!!

I hated that they used the Smallville effect for heat vision instead of the heat beams.

that's what's interesting. He seems not to be the least curious at all why he can do this? what's up with that saph?

Okay , nitpicking the little things ;)

1 Obvious blue screen work :
Shots of Supes and Lois flying. SHots of Supes flying towards lois's house in the beginning.
The stadium scene where all the people are cheering. Bad VFX there.

2 Suit :( , just a bigger S.

3 The campyness.
I mean is it really so hard to make a movie that's more serious. I like lex ( kevin spacey) more in his serious mode then the Gene hackman mode.I'm all for comic relief ( the scene where kitty says that he's bald and get out to lex is priceless) , but just don't make it silly.
Oh and Parker Posey was really really overacting sometimes. Blegh.

4 Dialogue work , such as the scene where Lois and jason walk towards lex's yacht. No , yes , maybe...or soemthing like that.

5 Taking more risks ,using the comic storyline and the umbilical cord attachment towards the Donner movies .:
It's nothing new what i'm saying here , but ultimately there were wasted opputunities in terms of storytelling.
IT would've been amazing if Lex was was president. The scene in the beginning where he talks about the greek gods and fire , it just makes a great scene. Here you have lex , proving to metropolis ( humanity ) that the world doesn't need superman.
And then supes hows up ,saving the plane and then the shots of him hovering in space. It would've made more of an impact to show just how dependant the world is to supes.
And not to mention the lack of villains. Darkseid , brainiac. You know , the stuff we've been whining since SR came out :p :D

And for the record. i've seen Supes 3 times. And i only enjoyed the last time. First time was in IMAX where after a really cool opening scene , the movie dragged. Rating then was a 6/10. Second time was in a regular cinema and it really doesn't compare to IMAX. Rating dropped even towards a 5.
Then i saw it again in IMAX cause the first time the 3'D machine was broke. In 3-D the effects looked better and i upgraded it to a 7/10.
Good but definately not great. Only to be enjoyed in IMAX 3-D

I'm not Saph. And once again- it's in the little things that count. Jason's moment of looking at what just happened that look of "what?" before the hencemen arrive. Also, the moments in the cooking area- silence, isolation to me that's similar how I act when I'm nervous/intimidated/ afraid. So, I see myself having the same reaction that Jason did. He wasn't curious as in- let's see if I can do this again, he was nervous about what he just did. I would be the same way.

The screenplay gives the following description:

"Lois looks up to see Jason standing with his arms outstretched, paralyzed with fear. Did I just do that?"

As a kid that age, I would have the same reaction. 18 and older I would have a reaction of denial to extreme denial before acceptance. This is one of the reasons I loved 'Unbreakable,' because the reaction of having these powers was realistic. People talk about what power they would want to have, but if they actually did wake up- different- they wouldn't be as excited about it, they would either be scared or in denial.

That's why I think he should be curious.

saph.

He seemed so smart and inquisitive before then.

How many dads are here and know how inquisitive their kids are?

Explain what you mean by curious. To me, he's way too scared/ terrified to be curious. He was paralyzed with fear of what he just did, he wouldn't try it again. And his reaction was that of a frightened child. I wouldn't want to test powers within the first couple of days- I would be in denial or frightened even now and I'm 18. That's the difference between fiction and reality, in reality- I doubt anybody would be curious in the way I think you're describing. It would be met with denial or shock, not "let's see if I can do that again!"
