Superman Returns I Loved SR, but... The Nit-pick thread.

My nitpicks (it's been a while since I've seen the movie, so bear with me)

- Too many uses of the CGI Routh double, particularly the ending filght towards the sun. Would've looked better if it was actually Routh.

- Not enough knowledge into Lex's mind. His "Prometheus" speech whet my appetite, but I didn't get the main course along with it. I didn't like how he was just out for money and profit again. Didn't mind him creating his own continent, but as real estate? Why not just rule the world?

- Too many Donner homages. Routh and Spacey were doing fine and didn't need to repeat Reeve's and Hackman's lines.

- Of course, I wish we could've seen more of how the world felt impacted by Superman's return. We obviously saw the movie through Lois and Superman's eyes but I was hoping for a look at how the world was taking it, sort of how we saw how Gotham was reacting to Batman's appearances in B89.

- That's all I can remember.

This is not really a nitpick, but rather a flaw, because it´s not a small detail, but...what about Lois is an horrible mother?

Trespassing is a crime, and she does it with her son on her side.

That's what Lois does. She's even endangered the lives of her co-workers/friends (Clark, Jimmy) while trespassing. It's a flaw, but it's part of her makeup.

I didn't like the cinematography. Everything was way too dark (Except the Kent farm scenes).

I love you. I had the same gripe. It's dark and de-saturated most of the time.

The movie starts dark and desaturated and there are few moments throughout where the color is bright and vibrant.

I loved the cinematography, but it could be brighter. Maybe they need to do more daytime shots.

It's one of those you either love or hate about Singer. I actually like his cinematography. I feel it's close to the tone and look that Janusz Kaminski uses for Spielberg's films.

That being said, it would be interesting to see what Andrew Lesnie, Dante Spinotti, Christopher Doyle, or Roger Deakins would have done with it.

???- not familiar with those stated cinematographers looks- any film examples?

Just curious...

Yes it is. Wow. The character is flawed. Who'd have thought? A woman who is a reporter and a mother and her reporter side gets the better of her best judgement.

Could you elaborate me a list of reporters in the world that commit crimes with their children beside them, please?

Lois Lane, the person who always gets herself into trouble despite better judgment.

I said in the world, not in comic characters that don't have children... I find very amusing that most of you guys put the excuse of "realistic" and "real world" in that of Lois Lane moving on and having a kid but then refuse to give me a list of reporters in the "real world" that commit crimes with their children with them...

That would never happen. Maternal instincts would never allow that, ever, unless teh mother's insane.

Andrew Lesnie did the Lord of the Rings films.
Dante Spinotti did LA Confidential and The Quick and the Dead.
Christopher Doyle did the Chinese film Hero.
Roger Deakins did The Shawshank Redemption and A Beautiful Mind.

Maternal instincts don't always win, trust me.:(

I would be very careful of generalizing. I've never argued that it's "realistic" that Lois had a kid. I like the fact that she has a kid because it moves her character forward.

Realizing that she IS a fictional character, I don't hold her to the same rules as real people. Which is the same reason I don't think Superman should be held to destruction of public property charges.

The reason I appreciate that Lois trespasses even with Jimmy is that it shows that despite the fact that she has changed by having a son, she still has the recklessness that she is known for. You didn't like it? I'm sorry to hear that.

Realism only matters to me in execution. I appreciate acting and dialogue that is more realistic. But I don't care about it when it comes to the characterization or situations they are put in.

Actually I would've accepted it if it wasn't her son that was with her... there's this thing called maternal instincts, you know...

ok but I've read stories about mothers lifting entire cars to save their trapped children. So I don't know for sure, but I do believe there's this very strong instinct that mothers have that makes them ready to do anything to protect their kids.

Anyway another nitpick. If there's a restart or a superman returns again movie I'd like to get to know clark more.

Again... could you give me a percentage of the mothers in the world that commit crimes with their children beside them, please?

Poor martha couldn't help her own son in the end. She could definitely teach Lois a thing or two about parenting. That's for sure.

Yes there are. But it's not like there was any imminent and identifiable danger that would alert her maternal instincts.

True. But that's in a situation where the kid is in danger. She didn't realize there would be any danger until she was already inside the boat.

Yeah, she doesn't know what to expect. So Why take the risk?

She's also overprotective of Jason as we saw when she asked him if he took all his vitamins.

She's not curious here, just really stupid.

That's fine. And I feel that it is in line with her character.
