Alright, the title isn't as bad as you think...I'm 14 and never really got around to reading it. After hearing how godly it is to users on the forums I wanted to pick it up sometime. Seriously, is it really THAT good?

I remember hearing how amazing it was from a friend of mine, and he doesn't even like comics to much. I read that Time magazine loved the entire story line, and then I came here when they first announced it was going to be made into a movie. Then, I figured I would give it a read, and kind of expecting it to be over-hyped. Boy was I wrong! It truly is an epic story, and the character development is AMAZING. I even DL it onto my iphone, so when I'm at the gym, I can watch it while I'm on the treadmill.

Go buy it now.

Go pick it up, it's awesome.

I get it before the movie is released.

Yes.

You really need to read it several times to pick up every little detail/thing.

Yes, it's THAT good. Go to your bookstore and pickup a copy...

yeah...what he said...but dont think of reading it again and again as a hassle...it seems to get better with each read!

Well you should read it D4rk, it's dynamite.
my 13 year old brother read it(he skipped the between chapter stuff, but I don't blame him, it can get old, but it's good), and anyways I know he loved it.
So, yeah, read it, idk if it will help you enjoy the fiml anymore but if you like reading and well, quality entertainment, go for Watchmen. Classic.
First graphic novel I've ever read

I have it on hold at my local library...I will read it either today or tomorrow...dun dun...

Nice, i can never trust my local library with GNs.

I reserved it online in the beginning of January and it came in a few days ago. Not bad, since it has like 190 holds and only 90 copies available. It stinks though, because I'll get probably the worst copy with pages ripped out...

That's I why I never trust libraries with GNs :P

but my library's GNs are usually in good shape.

it'd probably be better if you had a better understanding of the politics of the time but it shouldn't stop you enjoying it.

you may miss some of the subtle awesomeness of it with one read but with a few, and with age, you'll be able to grasp how good a story it really is.

i didn't read watchmen for the first time until i was about 17.

i'm not sure i would have appreciated it as much if i were younger.

I don't think you should read it, the brilliance could implode your mind. But if you are into that sorta thing then you should read it.

I think you should check this out.

You can re-read it over and over again and see the story from different perspectives. There's some great online interviews that explain this.

Here's one at http://blather.net/articles/amoore/watchmen2.html. It's short and to the point. Check out the 2nd section of the interveiw in which they talk about narrative structure. It discusses the microcosm (smaller details or plot within a plot) vs. macrocosm (larger overall theme/plot points) and how these play off one another so that you can see various points of the story in different ways.

It's very good, but I'll tell you what I told my friend when I lent my copy to him.

"It's very good, and multilayered, but if you get all crazy and fanatical about it, as if it contained the infallible word of God, I will slap you."

It may not contain the infallible word of God but somewhere within this web of ideas is a spell. The whole macrocosm vs. microcosm thing plays off into a sort of crystalline structure (everything seems to reflect off each other adding to new levels of interpretation) that could make someone become ensnared in the web of ideas that has been weaved.

While Moore may seem crazy when you first hear about him. I think that people reading his stuff should be warned that there's some undercurrent to his work that can make a lot of fans suddenly see things in a whole new crazy light.

I never doubted that Moore is a mad wizard, all I'm saying is that the fanaticism goes too far sometimes.

There's some people who may feel that Rorscharch gives insight into their own lifestory...YIKES!

Yeah, that's disturbing. Rorshach is a madman, and identifying that much with him should be a warning sign.

I havent read it because its against my sensetivetys to read anything with nipplage.

Yeah, an irrational disdain for women and no sex drive are one of these features. Kind of like...

I know you're joking of course...

Hopefully?
