I re-watched "The Dark Knight" this weekend...

Cool.

GG is by far the most comic-accurate badass we've seen in the Spidey films... and I say that even though I prefered Ock. If you ignore his suit :o they got him bang on the money.

I did think Ock was bad ass, the fight scenes are still the best i've seen in a comic book film. But I dunno, I don't think he should of been made sympathetic at the end and I didn't like the way he talked to his arms.

Yea but in the end Ock was thwarted because he was friends with Peter.

Not technically true. Even after Peter unmasked, Ock had him by throat with one of his tentacles. Peter appealed to Ock's good side by quoting some of Aunt May's speech about doing what's right and being responsible, even if it means giving up your dreams.

That was the theme of the movie and the parallel between Spidey and Ock in the movie. Peter was being irresponsible by giving up being Spider-Man so he could live his dream of having a normal life. Doc Ock was being irresponsible by doing evil things in order to make his dream succeed. By the end of the movie they both came full circle and took responsibility for their actions.

I really enjoyed that. But I do agree that Ock should have been 100% evil, instead of being a sympathetic villain. Alfred Molina's Doc Ock was still a badass though. My favourite badass moment was when the train passengers tried to protect Spidey:

Passengers: "You want to get to him then you gotta' go thru us"
Doc Ock: *Smiles* "Very well"

Then he shoves them all roughly aside. A couple of them even smashed thru the train windows. Brilliant. Made up for Goblin letting those fools on the bridge throw trash and hurl abuse at him in SM-1.

Yea I did love Alfred Molina in the role, he was a bad ass. But still, having him talk to his arms was stupid IMO. That's what I hated about his character, it's like the arms made him bad, not him just being bad by himself, you know?

You see, I don't even fully buy that the tentacles were entirely responsible for his actions. Yeah, they definitely triggered his villainous behaviour. But Raimi showed us signs that Octavius himself was capable of irrationality and violence at the demonstration scene.

He refused to shut down the reactor in spite of the dangers it was causing, and that ultimately led to his wife being killed. And when Spidey tried to unplug the reactor, Otto violently smashed him into a wall.

So I think the tentacles just played on that dark side he had regarding his life's work.

Very good points, J. When you think of it, they were only machinery with some AI - they're not going to be naturally EVIL... they just fed from his conflicted psche.

Exactly. They were programmed for sustaining fusion.

I mean they're not going to tell him to smile and say "Butterfingers" after he dropped Aunt May off a building lol :woot: That was all Otto. Machines can't forge human emotion.

But the thing is, he mentioned the "neural inhibitor" allowing him to remain in control over the arms. Then that got fried in the initial accident, it makes me think that the arms did have some control over him.

 QFT

The neural inhibitor protected his higher brain function, and prevented the arms from influencing his mind. If they really controlled him, he'd never have been able to do the right thing and destroy the reactor at the end.

He broke their influence. They influenced him, not controlled him, IMO. The arms are not going to force him to have a cigar, or a drink from Harry's glass of whiskey, or smile and laugh when he did evil things etc. They are human emotions.

Spot on spot on:o

Plus, Ock's wife died, and the frying of the chip which connected to his brain might have screwed that up. Now that he's lost his wife, he had nothing but his arms, so they're kinda like his famlily, as sick as that sounds, he'll listen to them, he coontrolled the arms before the accident, they controlled him, but he was still able to think on this own and such, but at the end, it was his choice and he overcame the powers, mind over matter if you will.

But Joker, all of your posts spot on good sir, I couldn't of said it better!

Rachel wasn't likable cuz she was plaed by maggie rather than katie. i can care less about being 100 percent accurate to comics as long as the film is good. the problem with alot of you is that you are too judemental. i love to watch movies and because i'm not so judgemental, i enjoy plenty of more films!!

Or maybe the character just wasn't interesting in TDK? I don't think there was much to the character outside of reminding Bruce Wayne that he needs to be Bruce Wayne.

:hehe: What are you talking about? You love to watch movies because you are not so judgmental? Well then how can you decide what films you like if you don't judge them? :hehe:

not so judemental in the fact that i don't pick at small details in films such as comic book movies. i mean complaining about green goblins armor?? come on, the movie was great and it woulda been weird seeing defoe with green skin.

Oh right yea I see what you are saying. Some people can be too nit picky. But to be honest, the Goblin suit was stupid IMO. He looked like a Power Ranger. I'm not saying I want him looking exactly like he does in the comics, but that suit was just silly.

What makes it worse is when you see how badass the concept art was too. :(
