The "I am SO SICK of all this talk about recasts/reboots/revamps/re-whatever!" thread

It's become the panic button. "I didn't like XYZ about this movie-START OVER!"

I find myself becoming more and more disgusted with the fan and more and more empathetic with the director(it may just be because Im currently going thru my directing course)

That's understandable. Fans can be fickle hypocrites and will bash to the death anyone who voices a differing opinion, even if it's the opinion that they held before the tide turned. Meanwhile the director has the unenviable task of trying to cater to this mentality. I remember reading a quote from Raimi that said something along the lines of "It's one thing to come to me as a parent and say you don't like the way my kid turned out; it's something else to come into my bedroom during conception and tell me I'm doing it wrong."

I am getting ready to direct my first student film next week and as much pressure I am feeling I cant imagine what it would be like if people were calling for me to be removed off the film or a reboot because of a picture or a misquoted comment.
I would love to one day direct a big budget genre film but I think I am leaning towards Tarantino's thinking...Fans are way to picky and rigid in their thinking. People would hate my film just because I didnt get the right shade of yellow for the inside of Space Ghost's cape.

Sadly, you're only slightly exaggerating.
I think the trick is not disregarding what fans TRULY want but at the same time not letting the rabid nitpickers push you around. It's a very delicate balance & even if you DO succeed, there's no guarantee they won't turn on you later when something else comes laong that they think is cooler.

exactly...Raimi is going thru this now...after Spiderman 2 he was beyond reproach.... now that "He who shall not be named did a TDK" is the new in director everyone bashes Raimi....when the new director of the month comes along Nolan will feel it too

That's not ENTIRELY accurate. Raimi was never above reproach, & always had his detractors. From casting choices to organic webbing to the Goblin armor, fans have been second-guessing him on everything since day one. Remember the nauseating "Man-Spider" posts? Still, he had a lot more support after 2 and even the immediate backlash behind 3 was nothing compared to the way he's been attacked since the summer of '08, nor since the reboot was announced.

I don't like revamps if they depart from the comics too much. But as the original films often do it rarely makes a difference in that regard.

I am disgusted with the constant Origins tales. It was done well in Batman Begins but I don't even know if that was necessary. Superman origin stories are stupid, I don't even read those comics anymore, same goes for Spider-Man and every other superhero, pretty much.

Norton Hulk had it right: you know he's big, green and strong. Skip repetitive backstory, cue film.

I am happy for the Spider-Man reboot as I was for the Hulk one, though, because I did not like the Raimi Spider-Man films (the best parts of all three were Dafoe and Randy Savage (R.I.P.). Hopefully they won't tell us that he was bitten by a radioactive spider for the eight trillionth time.

Superman Birthright is an awesome story

The thing is, technogy in filmmaking gets better every 15 years, so people want to see how a Supermann would look like with "Avatar" effects, for example
Could you imagine "The Wizard of Oz" Avatar style?

we wont have to since there is an OZ movie in the works by Mr Raimi

And that's EXACTLY what they're doing!!!! :woot::woot::woot:
