Superman Returns Iconic Imagery

Did anyone catch the great lighting when Superman descended into the Fortress of Solitude? The shadows gave it a Jim Lee-esque look in my opinion.

Yes,great shot, the way it lit the anger in his eyes was great and an interesting lighting contrast to earlier where there is a softer almost sunset lighting and we see what appear to be tears in his eyes when he flies away from Lois house after hearing her say she never loved him

Yes, I thought that looked great. You couldn't really see his face, just some of the blue on his suit and parts of the brigher red, from the inside of the cape. Looked great. And I really liked Brandons expression when he sees the crystals missing. Superman was pissed. A lot.

You keep on talking about this being a discussion board, but you aren't doing any real discussion. You're just bashing the film every chance you get.

If you had read the post, it was part of the discussion. I agreed that there were some beautiful images, actually many of them. Unfortunately, to me, those great images were lost on a mediocre film.

How is that not part of a discussion?

This is true. Though my opinion is different from yours, I didn't see you trying to bash it really. You even stated that there were some great images in there, its just the fact that you weren't satisfied with the movie as a whole. Its okay if some don't like the film :) Theres no reason we have to be at each others throats about it:up:

Jakomus and matthooper, please keep it on topic and not get into a "fight".

Plus, I've mentioned on several occasions how much I liked Routh and thought the shuttle/plane sequence was just amazing. The film had some great stuff, but overall I was dissapointed. Sorry I offended that guy.

I've never attacked anyone for liking the film. Yet I'm attacked for a negative post.

Just saw the mods post....I will be good, I promise.

Definately, and I understand. I wasn't trying to attack anyone here. :) I was just saying it wasn't fair that you got attacked either, because you did mention you liked things in there. I'm glad not everyone likes it, because then they can pick out things that those who did like it, are somewhat blind to at first. Its good to have differences of opinions. I just thought it wasn't fair that you, or anyone else for that matter, gets attacked, whether they liked it or not. It'd be nice to see more people discuss their differences in a better way, instead of just attack after attack. But anyways, :) Like I said, I wasn't trying to get on anyones case.

I agree.

What about shot of the guy looking in the sky and seeing Superman flying overhead? I loved it. Definitely made Superman seem out of the ordinary.

Is that near the beginning where he flies to look in on Lois? If so, then yes, that was pretty neat. Superman was just flying around, enjoying the sites of the city.

Yes that was a nice touch, the look on his face of wonder,it was also a moving shot of the crowd watching him plummet to earth after sacrificing himself for them

when superman and lois were flying over the water u could see their reflection in the water..till lois touched the water with her finger...another great shot

I have a question about the whole rooftop and return scene. Although it was beautiful to look at, didn't they go straight up? Why would it take such a long journey to get back?

Great little touch. I love that everytime Superman appeared it was "treated" as a sighting. I think I talked about this with Skruloos and Metropolisman away from the Hype.

Glad you enjoyed it Hunter Rider.

There were so many iconic moments in the film but to me, this scene is the most iconic Superman scene caught on film so far:

When is that from?

The part where he speaks to Jason while he sleeps. About 5 minutes before the film ends.

"The son becomes the father, the father becomes the son" speech.

Cos they wen't a different way, remember.

I loved the scene where Superman is howering over Metropolis before he flys away to Lois' place. It feels as if its taken straight out of a comic book, with Superman on his round over the city looking for someone in need of help.

Ofcourse, the scene where the White family hangs onto him is simply epic, the look in the eyes of Jason is one of awe and perhaps gratitude for the savior of his family. Superb.

Finally, as some have already mentioned, the rooftop scene. Two images stand out in that- 1. Superman and Lois flying upwards with the Daily Planet globe forming the backdrop.
2. The scene where we see their reflection in the water. Beautiful imagery.

Loved these scenes and loved the movie.

i must admit that there were some beautiful shots. yes i said it more times that there was no action. singer just can not film action and has not idea how to film them. but he has can film iconic shots. and there were a lot of good shots in SR.
a lot of emotionals scenes.

there were so many good shots that i dont know which one is the best. as an adult we can enjoy i nthose kind of shots. but i dont knwo if the kids can. i feel they were a little cheated?

Any time jason was on screen was Iconic.

Heh *shakes head*

Did you honestly expect to post that and not get flamed :ghost: in return... I don't believe it...

Iconic imagery? Hmm... I have something to say on that. to me it's not just about an image looking "cool". It has to have something more... maybe an emotional element. That "coolness" was what we got in the matrix aplenty and it got old after a while. I think Movies after the matrix, after John woo even, don't let a moment naturally develope into an iconic moment/image like the "I am your father" from esb anymore. It's forced on us now using gimmicky slow-mo and whatever they call it, quicktime or whatever. It's a "hey this looks badass" moments that serve nothing to the story, they're just superficial but "cool" images. This works well at the end of the movie when as a last hurrah like the spidey swinging in his movies. but when it's sprinkled around through the film it seems cheap, too... self-conscious. Like "you're supposed to think this is cool, see, it's cool and deep..." We got a lot of that in the HULK, which is full of its own iconic imagery that's just cool but soulless because of a soulless pretty bland story. (disclaimer: not saying twas a bad movie, just soulless. the action scenes were cool and stuff)

Anyway, the most iconic image? I can't really remember much, but I really liked the part where he floated in space. That was beautiful.

Any scene with him lowering himself feet first, with his cape billowing behind, would be iconic to me. Also the scene of him walking towards the crook with bullets ricocheting off his chest felt like an episode of STAS. But the image that has stayed with me the most was when Luthor and his henchies gave a weakened Supes the kicking of his life. lol, don't ask me why.

That plane sequence alone proves Singer can film action. He just needs to include more of it in his movies and top one sequence after the other.

I agree, the plane sequence showed he can do big scale action and makes me hyped to see what he can do with Superhero vs Supervillain battle

One thing he needs to do is save his best action sequence till last IMO,not that the NK stuff wasn't good but like the mansion attack in X2 i found the earlier Plane sequence the superior action sequence to the climax one
