Ideas for the new costume in the Batman reboot

I say suit because Bale's Batman has been defined by his armor, and restricted in fighting because of the costume.

I think Batman needs to be light and flexible in the reboot; he needs to be able to perform acts of espionage and be able to out-fight the criminals. I'm not suggesting a return to the literal tights of the comics; I'm just suggesting soft modern materials, all black, and utilitarian in design.

Batman's technology needs to get away from the grappling hook and ninja arm bracers.

The gloves and the shoes could feature a glue like technology similar to the gloves in Mission Impossible 4; supplying Batman with an ability that was formerly Spider-Man's territory.

The mask should cover the entire face and thus protect the entire face. My personal preference for design would be similar to the Kroenen mask in the image below, but with a sculpted mouth and chin. I think the mask should refelct that the idea that this is a Bat-man.

The ears/horns are an issue of their own. I might prefer short horns like Miller's Dark Knight, but long or short, I don't want to see them curved inward like cat ears again.

Ill rather stick to the armor suit that nolan introduced. Just abit more tech in the lenses of the eyes, they used the whole sonar thing in TDK but it would be nice to see some tech like how the iron man uses his scanning of enemies, infrared, scope... stuff like that.

I just want a Batsuit that's not as busy as Nolan's armors have become with the sequels (seriously, I still like the Begins suit the best of all three of these films). And the further we stay away from sculpted anatomy the better - IMO that joke wore itself out by the end of the first Burton movie, and even he knew it by the time he did Returns.

That said, I wouldn't mind a more "Earth One"- or "New 52"-looking Batsuit.

Even Cavill's Superman suit ditched the underwear and went for a more realistic look.


Batman can't go back to looking like a campy comicbook character.

I agree with Rockstar on this one. In the vein that X-men First Class was able to make a functionality of the blue and yellow suits, the way Nolan's Bat has used armor and military-esque stuff for the suit, it needs to be made out of practicality and functionality. The thing about the previous suits is they all LOOKED rubber to me. Bales appears as if it would function in the real world. That being said I wouldn't be opposed to ditching the ALL BLACK, perhaps more gun metal-y colors or something but definitely needs to be pieced together like armor.

The Batman suit in Young Justice is perfect. It's got the grey, but it's a much darker grey, It's an armor that has the appearance of fabric.

Exactly what I was thinking. It may be the best way to go.

The look is perfect, except for the gloves and boots.
And THAT is how the ears should look, closer to Burton's than Nolan's

I think the suit should be about the technology instead of making him bullet proof. I would like something more real like this; with sleeves and harness straps.

Batman's suit looks like fabric, but it's actually armored.

Also...Batman isn't a brute force...he attacks from the shadows. That IS his advantage.

I'd just like to get most of the stock arguments out of the way;

• Nobody is asking for spandex. Fabric-based is not the same as spandex. The comic costume is not spandex.
  
• A full black costume is actually worse at urban camouflage than a black and grey costume, or even a blue and grey costume (which military studies have confirmed is the most effective)
  
• There are several fan-made manipulations or actual constructed costumes that prove the comic design does not look silly.
  
• Molded rubber is not a realistic option, because the actors who actually had to wear them complained about a lack of mobility and overheating.
  
• Nobody complained that Catwoman isn't wearing armour in TDKR even though she is just as vulnerable as Batman is. You may say she has the advantage of stealth, well so does Batman.
  
• Realism is redundant when you still have the bat-ears and the cape, which are by far the least realistic aspects of the costume.
  
• Durable fabric-based materials exist.
  
• Audiences embrace 'silly' looking costumes as long as the movie is good. See Spider-Man, The Avengers.
  
• Posting pictures of Adam West proves the comic costume looks silly as much as posting pictures of George Clooney proves rubber armour looks silly.

This whole suit discussion just tends to be silly and emotionally hyperbolic. There's not a single logical reason the Batsuit can't be any number of things.

I personally hope for something a bit more organic/less obviously armor the next time we see him, because if I saw the Dark Knight suited Batman coming toward me, I'd scream "He's moving just as slowly as he did in that other suit, and he's armored with puzzle pieces!". And shoot him in the jaw.

If I were a criminal. Which I'm not.

Because this is an adaptation of a world famous, iconic and visually distinct character, that's the point.

What was the point of the stars and stripes on Captain America's costume in The Avengers?

What was the point of The Hulk being green?

What was the point of Superman's cape?

I'd hate to live in a world where everything needed a "point". It sounds boring.
