Ideas for the new costume in the Batman reboot

Well, the thing with the yellow is that it's suppossed to be a subconcious target for crooks to aim at, with that being the most heavily armoured bit of the suit.

Could work, provided all the criminals are DEADSHOT !!!

I get that the yellow oval serves as a subconscious target for crooks but at the same time, I also feel he looks a lot more frightening, more bat-like, completely blends in with the shadows, and looks less like a guy in a Bat suit if he didn't have it there. The yellow oval gives a "tights" feel to him IMO and although it serves as an subconscious target for criminals to fire at, that is only the case if you assume the criminals will see Batman before he gets the chance to disarm them, won't spray fire (from panicking), and will aim properly. My point is that it won't always work as a subconscious target due to those factors. So although the yellow oval has some benefits, I think the benefits of not having it are greater.

The yellow oval isn't just a target, and both the oval and the regular black bat can serve as a target. The oval basically functions as an omen to visually announce "Here comes Batman".

When criminals see that yellow oval with the bat inside, it is reminiscent of the Bat-Signal, and they know full well who is coming after them. Its a bit more "superhero" than the other emblem.

That's kinda my point. By putting the yellow oval on the suit, criminals not only know when Batman is around as opposed to him getting them when they least expect him through the darkness but they also know/get the feeling he is a superhero as opposed to a non-human/monster.

Giving Batman a real symbol turns him into a more tangible figure for people to rally behind:

"Starting today we fight ideas with better ideas. The idea of crime with the idea of Batman. From today on Batman will be everywhere it's dark, no place to hide".

That's a costume I could get behind. But I would want to see it on a real person, like one of of those manips of Bale or something.

And I believe, if you make the symbol black, then the belt might as well be black as well. I've never understand it in the comics or Nolan's movies as to why having the belt be gold?

I liked what they did with Clooney's costume, the dark symbol and belt.

I don't like the yellow oval at all, an it's even stupid. Yeah, catches subconsciously the attention of the criminal... but everybody forget that it's focusing the attention to batman himself? Is every criminal a professional marksman? All the criminals batman fights only have revolvers? How about uzis? Machineguns? Shotguns? Not one aim to the head? To the stomach?

I just maniped it there in case anybody wanted to see it. One has it one doesn't, you see. But if you were talking in general, I think it could be done if done right.

This. The design reasons for a gold/yellow oval and belt are obvious. But I have no idea why, especially in Nolan's franchise, Batman, this stealthy character, has a gold belt, other than tradition and him being too lazy to spraypaint that particular part of his arsenal.

Exactly lol

The yellow/gold belt is fine with the yellow symbol. But with the black symbol, I don't get it.

This is my idea of a classic looking (nodding towards the comics), yet practical Batsuit (nodding towards the Nolanverse):

Where the Armor Plates are flatter, closer fitting and molding to the body, built-in with the underlying suit. With the armor being flatter, and connected to the underlying suit, it doesn't stand out as much and thus looks more like the classic suit, yet without being a costume. Armor plates and underlying mesh-like suit are gray, but not a super light gray, so that it doesn't stand out too much from the black cowl, gloves, and boot. Of course, he'd have a cape, I just didn't draw it in...

I actually like the TDK/TDKR cowl and neck armor (minus the actual nostril shape on the cowl). It's practical, easy to remove and put on, and looks cool imo, so I left that in there. And I gave him the signature white eyes. That's something that can be built into the cowl. It may make it hard for an actor to see out of, but in a way I think it's more menacing because you can't see his eyes.

EDIT: The second concept is the classic blue cowl one. But straight blue wouldn't look practical, so I made it kinda blue-gray/slate-ish. That way the blue doesn't stand out too much from the gray (although it means the cowl, cape, gloves and boots are lighter than their black variants).

White eyes make him look more primal, visible eyes with black make-up gives me the idea of a freaking psycho...

Maybe with some camouflage pattern in grey with dark grey and dark being the other colours.

The heavy plating areas (chest, helmet, shin-guards and bracers) could be pitch black.

Yeah, but the chest armor being black would take away from the classic look.

Honestly I would still go with what Nolan did. The costume should be armoured, but not like the design it was in TDK...Gun metal plating in vital loacations, but that black thin chainmail where the joints are, in the arms and knees, shoulders etc.

Do you guys and girls think the blue/gray color scheme could work in live action , without looking "campy"?

A few months ago I would have shot the idea of blue/grey down in a heartbeat. But now, I'm more open to it.

But I feel it would depend on the tone of the movie, and how the overall design of the costume was executed.

I don't think so honestly. It works fine for comics and animation, because bright colors like blue and yellow make the art much more beautiful to look at, yet you can do other things to make the character retain a terrifying look. But you don't have those same advantages in film. Much easier to stick to dark colors, I believe.

To me the target explanation has always been kinda iffy anyway. I like it for the reasons I posted on the last page. It's bolder, it's like the Batman challenging you with his presence. And if he doesn't want to be seen, he's got that big black cape.

At the end of the day, I just want the symbol to be out there in everyone's face. If they do black and gray like I hope they do, then I'll take a big black bat, even though I prefer the oval. But if they go all black again, it HAS to be the oval.
