But, I’ve got some further info to share. I was waiting to get final verification this week before I broke the bad news and I’ve gotten it. I really wanted my readers to hear it from me…Tom Welling is completely out of the running for Superman.

We first heard this from the same source that first confirmed him to us, I then confirmed it with 3 other studio sources. I am asking for an explanation but they have not been able to give me one quite yet.

What happened? I don’t know, I really don’t. He was the shoe in. I am lost for words. Why did he not sign? He was the favored pick. Was it scheduling? Was it something else? All we know is the negotiations went south. We will do some digging and try to find out why the deal didn’t go through and let you know as soon as we do.

Does this mean Routh is in? I am looking into it. I heard he had talked to someone from WB as recently as this week but that could have been about anything. No one is talking at this point, I will let you guys know as soon as I hear something concrete.

So the dilemma is do you recast and have a new Supes on JL (which would bring our current # of Supes to 3) or bring in Routh? With the production start date quickly approaching, they’ve got to come up with something quickly.

Now, as for Batman, in my original Welling post I mentioned a bit about Batman, but wasn’t willing to confirm the name just yet. However, my message boarders got the best of me and I soon announced that it was Oscar nominated actor Ryan Gosling whose name had been thrown around the WB offices to fill the Bats shoes.

Now don’t go posting that “IESB said Ryan Gosling has been cast as Bats.” He hasn’t. But, from what I’ve heard he’s at the top of a very short list. He’s a bit lanky to pull off Bruce Wayne but considering this is Justice League and we only ever see the “Super” side of our heroes, a well made rubber suit can take care of that.

One more thing that has a lot of people wondering, what happens to the Bryan Singer Superman sequel Man of Steel? Well folks, it’s been pushed back indefinitely. Variety called it “taking a backseat” but my inside source says it will at least be a few years before we see any movement on that end.

So there you have it. Welling is out (unfortunately) for Superman, Gosling is the favored for Batman and Man of Steel is indefinitely postponed.

I guess theres some light shining through at the end of this dark day..

NO WELLING!?

you can't have routh without bale. That would just be strange. They want gosling but he couldn't match routh's stature. i hope the meeting was to tell him about man of steels status rather than anything JL related.
As for tom- its disappointing but lets see who they get.

well, thats some good news!!! while im open to a JLA film, i'll be very disappointed if it does in fact delay MOS.

If MOS is pushed back indefinitely, Routh HAS to be in JLA. That's what I want anyways.

Oh, and no Tom Wellling? WHOOOO HOOOOO!!! YAY!!!

I noticed the JLA haters soon perked up- or were they just welling haters? hmm?

Great news about Welling not being in JLA, not so good news about MoS being indefinitely delayed.

*waits for buggs to say "SEE! I told you!"*

Yeah. I'm hoping Gosling doesnt happen.

I'm divided on whether I wanted Brandon Routh in this.

The JLA script is awful and Nolan/Bale are against this project.

I think I'll feel better if Miller just goes with an older cast; Michael Trucco for example.

I'll be cool with Brandon Routh if they give the script some rewrites; he deserves better.

Most likely..

But really; the reaction across the boards for this thing (based on the script details) as been lukewarm to 'meh'

Not what I expected for JL

Welling ;)

I favored MOS but have said all along JL could be good...when the welling rumors started I simply hated the direction of it. I still stand by this could be potentially disaster for w.b.

I hope Routh is in this. He is a great Superman, imo. I believe Christian Bale has said that he wouldn't mind being in a JL movie, but only after tha third Nolan Bat-film. Ideally, if they can't get him, they should leave Batman out of the movie and put him in the likely sequel after Batman 3. If Bale still wants to do it, that is. They could replace Batman with Martian Manhunter in this movie.

Yeah see.

That'd be awesome.

But WB won't because they want to exploit Batman in order to sell this film.

If Routh comes back on as Superman in JLA, I will be happy. Since MoS is delayed, they can easily bring him in (and he has to fulfill his contract obligations anyway) and he's not doing anything else. But that probably won't happen.

my God, oh well I just pray its not Routh. I really hope and pray he is not in it, anyone else would be great.

Sounds good to me! I wasn't a big fan of recasting Superman anyhow....especially if they are looking for someone the same age as Routh.

Well they better just get Routh if they want to have a Superman in his mid 20's. Now if the script and story calls for an older Superman in his 30's. Caviezel or Fraser should be considered IMO.

Since Welling is out...(thank god) they should just stick with Routh IMO.

It's understandable that they want Batman in this, Justice Bringer. He is DC's most popular character and, arguably, the most popular fictional character in the world.

I say keep Nolan and co happy, and just remove Batman. This way, we avoid politics and friction for the third Batman film. By removing Batman from the script, it DOES allow for the following:

1. It forces them to be more creative. One less character gives other characters more screen time to be fleshed out.

2. You can continue with Routh, or cast a new Superman. It really doesn't matter. The key here: flexibility.

3. Substitute any detective work with Martian Manhunter under the "John Jones" 'guise.

That's my two cents anyways.

WB: "Who's Martian Manhunter??"

"He's green??"

"We can't use him; there are no demographics of green people for him to appeal to..."

"He wont make us money"

"Precious precious money...."

Connects. Though IESB blew most of the major details about it already.

Theres really nothing more left to be said about it. We know the heroes, the villians, the Omac story and who dies at the end....

The whole halfassed story is already public.

First, make "John Jones" black so they have their token black guy. Second, now they can use GL Hal to please the GL fans that are whining about wanting a Hal instead of John "token black guy" Stewart. Third, make John Jones the more cerebral member to compensate the place of Batman. Three birds in one stone.

I'll believe this crap when i see it, but thanks. Hasn't WB learned it's lesson yet? It seems the answer is no...
