If we ever get banned is there any place we can ask for another chance?

This is somewhat off-topic but just out of curiosity, does this site have any history of a mod abusing their "power"?

I received an infraction which i felt was an abuse of power and made an appeal to a more reasonable mod. I was told they were looking into the situation though I don't I know if it was ever cleared up. I just know that it is now listed as "expired," which may or may not be typical. I'm not too sure since it was my first and only one.
