All I can say is... WOW! This was an outstanding adaptation, and my husband and I absolutely loved it. There are some moments missing from the inspiration, The 300 Spartans, but the effects and acting more than made up for it; ie. the strength of the Spartan Queen, Gorga, in the absence of her husband, the "fight in the shade" quote, and of course the blood, decapatation and nudity (boobs for the guys, Spartan six-packs for the girls... and blood and guts for all). My husband and I don't go out to see movies unless they're worth it, and this is definitely worth it. t:

My wife is hardly what i'd call a "comic fan", although she is very supportive of my hobby...we saw 300 yesterday, and she absolutely loved it!

I figured it was all the half-naked muscle-dudes (and im sure that didnt hurt ), but over dinner we discussed the movie quite a bit, and she really seemed to relate to the queen, as well as how the Spartan children were so vigorously trained....

Anyway, we both enjoyed it.

If your a king, even Sparta, and there's an army that's 100x bigger than yours, and all he wants is some tribute, why would you bother fighting? Like it seems too silly to me that these people would lose there lives.

With comments like this it shows why your not a Spartan!

heres another one for ya speedballlives, well kinda, my fiancee and i saw it last night, she was a little timid going into it, but really enjoyed the overall movie, she loves comic books and action, but is more squeamish than me, but we both had an extremely enjoyable time, and of course she loved the queens "revenge" scene!

In the actual battle, (I haven't seen the movie yet :P ) Leonidas is told when Persians found the secret pass, and he lets the rest of the Greek army go. About 700-1000 Thespians elect to stay and fight with the Spartans, and it's somewhat of a shame that they don't get as much attention. True, the Spartans are more badass, but the Thespians were just regular people who gave their lives for their fellow Greeks just as the 300 Spartans did.

Anyhoo, the reasoning for the final stand varies, but some historians think that it's because the Spartans and Thespians wanted to buy time for the retreating forces, and to act as a distraction so the Persians wouldn't go running off straight into Athens once they knew most of the Greek army had retreated. I think you could bring the same reasoning into the movie too.

Saw it today and loved every friggin second of it! Awesome effects, uplifting story with the right actors and a kicka$$ score. The only thing I would've rather liked at the end, when Dilios speaks his final words, to hear the NIN song from the trailers kick in. But that's just a little detail, the whole movie is perfect.

I've said about all their is to say about your other arguments. So I'll talk about this one. The Oracle was certainly not a sex object in Greek society she was one of the most respected people in Greece, as she communed with Apollo who was held in high regard by the society at large. Women in Sparta received as much physical and academic education as men, were able to practice pollyamory
(thus the whole "Gorgo's a ****e" thing would not have been an issue), were able to own property, and went where they pleased. The movie actually did a decent job of showing this, but when the misogyny sneaks in, it's obviously Miller, not your idea of history.

Yeah, Miller hits two birds with one stone. His all women are ****es angle, and I hate religion angle, its funny really. All his works involve some sort of corrupt religious institution for the most part.

But overall, I wouldnt call the movie mysoginistic, especially since Gorgo gets her due at the end.

The only graphic scenes I didn't like was the Commander's son getting it. I mean when the other 2 bad guys "got it", it didn't really matter because they were bad. But it was really graphic when the son "got it". That and the kids fighting each other.

Other than that, I had no problems at all. I haven't seen a movie this good in god knows how long. I thought it was better than Sin City. Talk about an epic tale.

I enjoyed it. Very well done visually, and my hat off to the entire team. However, people are praising the slo-mo effect utilized by saying it recreated the panels of the book, but it honestly felt like every other movie that uses the technique to me. So i wasn't really all that impressed with that area.

I have a question for all of you...What is 250 + 50 ? What is probably the best action flick of the Millenium ? What gave not one but both of my eyes a hard on tonight ? What action movie will never be topped ? If you answered 300 to all of these questions then you're on the right track.I saw this amazing movie with Gilmore last night.A couple of hours ago actually.I went to the 10:40pm showing.I saw Gaby there which was an omen saying "David,There is Gaby...this movie will kill you".I went in there knowing this but I still went.A lot like the Spartan warriors in the movie.

This movie will motivate anyone to do something.Leonidas is the Great great great great great great great Grandfather of Charles Bronson.You might be asking yourself..."What kind of name is Leonidas?,It sounds like a disease"Yeah if I could have Leonidas Disease...I would.It would entitle me to kick everyones ass and then be home in time for some Meatloaf.Then after that I could go behead some guys,and come home once again to make love to Gorgon haha.I want Leonidas disease so bad..if it were true.This guy could convince anyone of anything.

He could come up to me right now and say "David you are a midget named Doris and have an abusive husband"...I would reply "...I know" and start crying.This guy is the man,coming in a close second to Mr.Bronson.The damn kids start out being judged to see if they have any inperfections.If any are found they are thrown over a cliff.Much like that one time in Ireland where I killed 7-8 Goats.

So they are trained from birth to kill,and be proud.Leonidas is one bad ass double dollar mother ****er..he could destroy everything.He went more along the route of Ragnarok(The greatest battle with all of the Norse Gods fighting to the death) where as it's better to die in battle with pride then to just not fight at all.Leonidas has some guy from Persia come to see him and ask him if he wants to merge with Xerxes.Leonidas will not have any of it.He kicks the bastard in some hole along with all of his buddies. They go off on some journey because they technically cannot go to war because the most beautiful Oracle said they would perish.

Does Leonidas care? NOT AT ALL!He's bad ass,what does some naked ballet dancer know? Apparently a lot but who cares.What come next is one of 10,000 amazing fights...and by 10,000 I mean 4 or 5.If you do not have a beard this movie will make you grow one.Maybe go out and shave someones head and glue some on.This movie will make you want to be a Spartan.They fight mutants in this movie,and some big ass animals.They cut off horse legs,and push elephants off a cliff.....they show the elephants land and all in the ground below.

The blood effects in this movie,and decapitations are done so well.It's like watching a beautiful symphony of death paint itself on screen.So first the messenger comes and then Leonidas is like..."Hmm THIS IS SPARTA!!"Kicks him down and goes off like I said before and comes into contact with some dudes..the Archadians..or how I liked to look at them OPERATION DEATH.They were there to fight and help the Spartans a little bit.They were all a bunch of non fighters.They fought Cheech Marins people first,and then build a wall out of thier bodies.

Well rocks,and use the bodies as **** to hold it together.BEAUTIFUL,as was the tree layered with dead people.Then they fight the Immortals(Xerxes personal Army).The Immortals have some mutant beast with them.****...before this battle with the Immortals some Corky/Sloth hybrid asks Leonidas if he can join,becuase he was a defect Spartan but his Dad left cause he wanted his boy to live.Leonidas says in the best possible way "Get away freak".That seals his fate later on in the movie but Leonidas. doesn't give a ****.I will not give anymore away but Xerxes is played by some Brazillian actor I will call Pele.

Really great actor.Every part in this movie was played so well.I want Gerrard to be the priest that marries me and my woman.Damn this movie had so much ass kicking I thought I was watching a actual war.The woman in the Orgy scene were....damn..as was the Oracle,and Queen Gorgon.Every woman,even the ugly one,was beautiful.THIS MOVIE IS GOD.I give away spoilers in this because I do not care...You should have seen it already. Haha...might see it again Tuesday.

"Homophobic" is an incredibly stupid term based around 3rd grade logic that if you don't agree then you're afraid.

Just because people don't like male nudity doesn't mean they are homophobic...it means THEY DON'T LIKE IT. That's it.


Oh and I loved the movie. Just tired of the stupid "homophobic" term.

to say you dont like male nudity and to say "IT WAS A GAY RECRUITMENT VIDEO" is completely different! And to say it was "loaded with male nudity" and having one male ass... also different!

I liked the movie, but I think it's being severely overhyped.

First off...I loved the movie...had a great time, it was a great crowd and everyone else that was with me also enjoyed it. So...my complaints...I guess I was just never convinced that there were 300 Spartans...I felt like I was watching 30 not 300. Xerxes was laughable...they should have asked Frank Miller what the voice should sound like...and the effects of him standing next to Leonidas were shotty. They didn't match the eye levels correctly. A correct example of doing that is of course the way Peter Jackson filmed the hobbits. Anyway...due to the green screen and nature of using the graphic novel as the storyboard...it felt confined...I don't think they really captured "epic" and "scope" all that well. And finally...after massive slaughters and battling...sometimes the Spartans wouldn't have a drop of blood on them. So maybe I overhyped myself...but the movie was over before it ended...there was no real climax...and maybe the only character I truly felt for was Captain after Astinos(?) bit it. Leonidas' end should have had a powerful effect on me...the emotional pathos of this film were sorely missed.

But the crowd clapped and cheered and it was a blast! I'll be seeing it again with other friends for sure and its a must buy on DVD. Hey maybe we'll get an even longer cut.
