if the caves breach each other then you can only see so much of another cave. and you can only both stand in the breach giving you an incomplete view of the other's cave. it is in understanding that and respecting each other's boundaries when aparent that leads to harmonious cave living. as long as your cave is a nice retreat.

nope they each have there own cave with a window on other caves. the caves move changing the view. and moving the cave changes the cave. my cave seems to be cavernous and maze like so people don't see much of it from any vantage point.

i change the allegory slightly to make a different point. they are not prisoners in my allegory just confused. you were ment to be thinking in terms of experience colouring perception.

okay in terms of shackles they would only know of each other by their shadow. in understanding your own shadow you may be better able interprete other shadows. but somethings cast shadows that look the same, but aren't. only over time can you see what the thing would be. according to plato there is an outside of this cave that would blind. to me there is no outside the cave. the cave is all and infinite.

If they were retired and claiming a pension, their death could reduce the burden on the currrent working population.

That doesn't sound like Plato's message at all. Where is the enlightenment? The higher awareness? The reality that's unattainable to the people still in the cave,or as in your case never having left it.
