Superman Returns "I'm still Superman!" Dialogue questions in the Kryptonite beating sequence

Well if you liked it that is fine for you. I didn't like it, and there are a lot of people that thought the line was just as stupid and out of place as I did. But we each have our opinions. If we didn't we would be robots.

That's perfectly fine, I was just saying that I don't think it's out of place.

After he says, "I'm still Superman!" he then says, "Don't hurt me!"

Are you sure? I'm positive it's "C'mon! Get up!", trying to trash talk the thugs.

Subtitles usually don't have all the lines in the movie, they are abridged for easy reading and comprehension.

you know what is even funny? that they put the subtitles in that part. it is to me very obvious that we are not suposed to understand that line. if they wanted tha we hear it we would hear it clear.

He says "I'm still Superman!" to let Lex know that no matter what he does, he'll always be Superman and Lex can't defeat him.

^ it doesnt make sense why he would even say that. if you're getting beat up you're gonna scream yell out your name? huh? even if it in indignation you'd say anything else but that. "I'm still <your name here>! whilst being dragged about isnt brave, it looks petty and ridiculous.

I think it makes perfect sense, he is telling Lex that no matter what he does to him, he is still Superman and he will prevail and defeat Lex. At least thats how i saw it, i also thinks it makes sense of Lex saying "So long..Superman" in a mocking tone.

Oh and CGHulk, he DEFINATELY doesnt say "dont hurt me."

This thread makes me laugh.

How do you think subtitles are created? Do you think the subtitle team just listen to the film and then add what they think the words are?

No. They have copies of the script. They know exactly what the words are. And whilst they may change the odd word here and there to make things easier to read or shorten sentences during heavy dialogue scenes, they do not make mistakes like assuming someone grunting is actually, "I'm still Superman!"

oh geez... No, man. There are ALOT of movies which don't use the script when doing the subtitles. Even if they would use the script you won't be sure that the stuff they say are in the script. The lines could be improvised.

And they actually do alot of mistakes, welcome to the world of films and DVDs :)

Oh yeah.. correct me if I'm wrong but was this line really in the script? I read somewhere that it wasn't.

That's why you have a transcript.

The line was ad-libbed and wasn't in the script, but I thought it was a cool addition.

Me too, as someone said in one of the sequel threads, he is telling Lex that it is his humanity and not his powers that make him Superman.

I watched that scene again. Wonder why it wasn't said with more clarity.

Reader Justin Prince sent us a picture of his brother Jason posing with actor Kal Penn.

The picture was taken in Dubai during the screening of Mira Nair's The Namesake, starring Penn in an important role. The film also stars Tabu and Irrfan.

Justin said Penn was chilled out and down-to-earth. He asked the actor why he had no dialogues in the Hollywood blockbuster Superman Returns.

Penn told him that he did have 20 lines to say but they were edited in the final cut.

Penn may have missed out in Superman but his Namesake is much awaited!

He doesn't say "I'm still Superman..." he says: "I should've have never left."
