In Game XMB?

When?

Supposedly with the release of MGS4, but Sony are forever moving the goal posts. Anybody have any idea of an upgrade date?

Rumour was either 10th or 18th, so I'd guess its the 18th now, if not MGS4's release like you say. Some stories slightly hinitng to a July release too now though.

So anybody's guess end of the day.

It should do, yes. Along with the ability to check messages and stuff whilst playing.

I remember the first time I listened to in game music while playing a console... it was at least 10 years ago with the original PlayStation. Can't remember the game, (I think it was a Yaroze made demo and it came on the demo disk along with the PlayStation) but you could stick a CD in and listen to it and the background would go with the music... it was pretty cool. What I'm getting at though is that it was possible back then... why the wait with newer consoles to have it?
