I know Disney now has the distribution rights, and I expect sooner or later we will have another film whether Ford is in it or not.

If this is already a thread I could not find so if it exists mods please merge it.

I'd like to see Ford involved in at least one more even if it is just him telling a story of an adventure we've yet to see and another actor plays the younger Indy.

I'd be interested in seeing who you guys would like to see carry on the mantle, or if you want it to end with only Ford instead of continuing on Bond style.

I think the plot of Indiana Jones and the Seven Veils novel would work well for a film.

After barely escaping an archaeological dig in Tikal, Guatemala with his life, Dr. Henry Jones Jr. makes his way back to New York. Upon his return, he learns of the recent discovery of the mysterious writings of a missing British explorer, Colonel Percy Fawcett. Though Colonel Fawcett himself still remains missing, his rediscovered work tells a story that could drastically change history and challenge several firmly held scientific beliefs. Within those pages, an incredible picture begins to take shape of a long lost city in the jungles of Brazil and the apparently true legend of a red-headed race, possibly descended from ancient Celtic Druids. Fascinated by such a prospect, and with the lovely Deidre Campbell at his side, Indiana Jones sets out for the Amazon. However, as usual, getting there will prove to be the true adventure. And if he does manage to survive the journey, who can tell what dangers await within the mythical city itself.

As for who I'd like to see take on the part, one actor jumped out at me

I'm not ready for a reboot. If Ford has one more in him, I say let him do it.

After the 5th film. I'm open to it as long as it too has heart, is a set piece in the 20s-40s period and follows a different plot from the old ones. And please don't make it about Atlantis, i want to see something more original and a more obscure legend/ myth. I suggest Shane Black as director, since he knows how to deliver a fast but eventful pace, as well as the entertainment this film would need.

Shane Black is actually a really good choice for director, well done . Yeah, when looking for stories I purposely avoided Atlantis (though I love the myth)

Here's a thought, how about instead of Nazis, Indy takes on Imperial Japan in the 30's? Something in East Asia, or the Pacific.

I would be up for anything Indy-related, whether it is a reboot or sequel. If they do a reboot, I request the following:
(a) return to the edge that characterized Raiders and Last Crusade; no cute prairie dogs.
(b) minimize digital effects.
(c) no cartoon violence.
(d) be authentic to the time period.
(e) Stick with the villains. Don't try to make them likeable or sympathetic, like they did with COTCS, and take pot shots at the US while making the lead villain Indy's female doppelganger. Make them fricking evil.
(f) have Indy shoot someone/someone die in a creative way, The cartoon nature from the last film took away one aspect of the edge in the aforementioned films. It was a safe, cartoon family for films; the only violence was over the top. Return to practical effects, make the villains evil, thus making for a catharsis during Indy's fights with them. If Spielberg is going the Sigourney Weaver route - trying to ignore a filmography of gun and kill heavy film(s) in favor of buying into the latest liberal trends- hand the director's chair over to someone who is not averse to the baddies getting shot/biting the grave dirt.

The appeal of the Indiana Jones mythos is the pulp heritage; washing it away to make a politically correct film dissolves the appeal of the character.

There are just some things that should not be done...recasting Indiana Jones is one of them.

I have a suspicious feeling about JJ Abrams doing Star Wars or Ben Affleck playing Batman, but I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and see what they can bring to those respective franchises with an open mind. But anyone else playing Indiana Jones in his prime (i.e. not a teenager or child) but Harrison Ford? No, no, no, no, and quadruple no.

Besides seeming like a bad financial idea, as Indiana Jones originally appealed to baby boomers' since of nostalgia for their parents generation and they're--on their way out these days and will be even more recalcitrant to watching someone else play Indy than I am--it is just a terrible artistic and even moral decision.

Actually, I think Indiana Jones has huge appeal to Generation Y and X, who grew up with it. Problem was that Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was just not a good movie, and Ford was way too old. But even so, it did okay.

Actually give them a good movie, and who knows how well it will do.

Yeah, I'm not ready for it either. Ford IS Indiana Jones. I just don't see it possible for an actor to meet what Ford did. He helped create an iconic role and anyone else playing it would come off as an imitation.

It's the only thing I'm a purist on.

But you could just not watch the new movies.

Enjoy Kingdom of the Crystal Skull some more. Cause that's the alternative. Well that, or nothing. But again, if you want nothing, just don't watch the new movies.

It is unfortunate the new movies will take away the legacy of the original three. KOTCS is not a good movie. But this is about to turn the series into something akin to the Marvel universe where the brand is more important than the story or characters. That is a shame.

KOTCS is kinda nasty of a film. But I won't judge people if they like it though. If they like nasty boring movies, it won't lose sleep over it.

Isn't Indy the character as we know him essentially Ford though? I can't see how another actor playing Indy wouldn't end up either slipping into a probably bad Harrison ford impression or on the other side end up as some "Indiana Jones in name only"?

Since so much of what people love about the character is what Harrison ford as an actor brought to it. I don't think if Tom Selleck was cast as originally planned, the franchise would have taken off as big as it did? Seems lose-lose.

I have to admit, this series isn't a holy grail for me. Hell, I liked Kingdom of the Crystal Skull more than the Temple of Doom in some respects.

It just seems like a shame to retire the entire franchise.

But I'm fairly sure a reboot is inevitable.

hehe HOLY GRAIL eh?

And I'll say it again: I want God to zap anyone who prefers KOTCS over Temple of Doom. But FATHER ALMIGHTY, don't zap Thundercrack too hard. He was blinded by the Devil.

LONG LIVE TEMPLE OF DOOM!

I think if they got the right actor to play Indiana Jones it can work. But that's the catch: the right actor. It's got potential like James Bond where the actor may change but the character is still the same. I don't know of any current actors who can recreate well enough the personality to be Indiana Jones.

The thing about Ford as Indy is this:

He's been Indy since 1981. 33 years. So it's rather different than Bond.

Also, Ford has this quality you cannot replicate. Well, young Ford anyway. He was appealing, rough around the edges but retained Hollywood looks, and was rather grounded. So when he saw some weird supernatural crap, you felt it too.

The Bond/Batman comparison gets put up quite a bit but in both of those franchises the original film actor was only in the role for a few years really before they were replaced. Not well over 30 years technically.

If Connery had stuck around to play Bond for 30 years the idea of the bond franchise as we know it would probably be totally different and we'd probably never think of the character as anyone other than connery...hell some still don't.

Well, this could just be Satan talking but, you guys know it's inevitable right?

Now that Indiana Jones is owned by the Mouse, there's no way they're going to just let that franchise gather dust in that big warehouse.

I've protecting you, Thundercrack from HIM. Thank me latterrrr.

When you want Adventure, there is Indy.

When you want bombs, there is Thomas Jane.

Well, hey, at least they're not seriously talking about contemporizing (is that a word?) Indiana Jones.

Count your blessings.
