Infinite Crisis Question

Whoa, rediculous overreaction. Especially since I was speaking directly to CConn.

Now now, stop fighting you two. Don't make me go upside your heads. I know IC is/was a huge event, but I can't afford all the trades assosiated with it, So I'll just get the Batman releated stuff and psooibally get the rest down the line. Is that OK with everyone?

You know what? Screw it. I'm going balls out on IC now. So Do I just need the 4 mini's, the IC trade and the JLA trade that will set me?

Yeah, basically. But there's just "ONE" more that's you'll want once you finish the 4 minis/JLA:COC and really get into IC... i

t's the, oh, I'm going to have to find a link to it.

I can't remember the specific name. But you can pick it up later b/c you've got plenty of reading in the mean time:)

IC Companion is FULL of crisis related spoilers so you don't want to start reading these one shots till you're halfway into crisis! The Villains United chapter leads DIRECTLY into IC#7 (chap7).

For clarifaction's sake:

I buy the four minis, and then the main IC book. If I wlak into IC having read the four minis, will I have spoiled myself?

...what? Do you mean you weren't speaking directly to me?

In any case, I don't believe it to have been a "rediculous overreaction". If you want to give suggestions to people fine - I said myself, if it's feasible, yeah, it's great to read everything related to IC - but you come in here like gangbusters trying to tell people what to do, what to read, that's unnecessary.

No, the four minis lead into Infinite Crisis. They're sorta like a giant prologue to the whole thing.

Here's a chronological list of all of the TPBs related to COIE and IC. For IC alone, I'd start at Identity Crisis, and go from there.

http://www.crisis2crisis.com/

And I see they even give you the option to choose from the Essentials, Important Tie-Ins, etc.

Alrighty then, just got back a little while ago. Here's my booty:

Identity Crisis
Day of Vengence + One Shot
OMAC Project + One Shot
Villians United + One shot
Rann/Tanagar War + One Shot
Infinite Crisis 1-7 comics J. Lee verion covers + Secret Files
JLA: COC
Face the Face

Now what order should they be read?

You pretty much have them in order already. Except move JLA: COC to before IC.

The one shots are sorta read inbetween IC issues, but I can't remember which come where. :(

Thanks CConn. I last one, the OMAC tade has the countdown to IC in it, where does that fit in? Should I just read it after OMAC itself then the OMAC IC Special?

Okay, here's the proper order...

Identity Crisis
Countdown to Infinite Crisis
OMAC Project
-
Day of Vengence
Villians United
Rann/Tanagar War
JLA: COC
-*
Infinite Crisis 1
Day of Vengeance One Shot
Infinite Crisis 2
Rann/Thanagar One Shot
Infinite Crisis 3
OMAC One Shot
Infinite Crisis 4
Villains United One Shot
Infinite Crisis 5
Infinite Crisis 6
Infinite Crisis 7
(52)
Face the Face

*these can really be read in any order, but whatever. :o

Thanks. You're the first person with a straight answer about all this.

So the one-shots are the comics collected in the INFINITE CRISIS COMPANION, right?

Actually, the OMAC one shot would fit best after IC#4, the Villains One-Shot would be better fit following IC#5... and the IC Secret Files issue (that we haven't even mentioned) would fit best after IC#3 or #4...it should be in the companion.

AHHHH! Stop it! I've just ordered everything all nice on my bookshelf! Also an update, I've read Identity, which was very good IMO and I'm onto the OMAC trade which I've read the Countdown to IC and I'm onto about part 4 of the OMAC story itself. Damn this stuff drags you in eh?

Another question, now that I'm sorta up to date with Batman comics, what do I need to start collecting on a regular basis? 'Batman' obviosly, but is there anything else? Is 'Detective' worth getting? What about these other series like 'Batman and the Mad Monk', 'Gotham County Line' I've seen around, plus I've read a bit on this 'Batman Confidental' comming up, is it essentual cannon reading?

Batman and Detective Comics are the core canon titles. Detective is in the middle of a great run by Paul Dini that a lot of people are enjoying. I'd say it's definitely worth getting. It's a nice contrast to the Batman title that Morrison is currently writing. Both are automatic grabs for me.

Batman and the Mad Monk (a current mini-series) is a telling of Batman early in his career. It's sort of a sequel to Batman and the Monster Men (recently released in a 6 issue-trade), which tells of the first time the Dark Knight encounters the supernatural. I though Monster Men was great and Mad Monk is shaping up to be pretty good too.

Gotham County Line (also available in trade) was a 3 issue mini that places Batman in a suberbian setting. It was pretty good too.

Batman Confidential (starting this December) is an ongoing monthly that will recount early experiences in Batman's career that shape him to be the character that he is. I wouldn't call any of these essential canonical reading, but Confidential sounds like it would be closest. Mad Monk, Monster Men and GCL are just good stories, but not necessary if you're just looking to keep up in current Batman developments. Again, it's hard to say exactly with Confidential (because it's not out yet), but it certainly falls after 'Batman' and 'Detective' in rank of canonical importance.

Awesome J man! Thanks, did I miss anything? What about Shadow of the Bat and Gotham Knights?

Gotham Knights was cancelled right before the OYL Jump in April. Shadow of the Bat was stopped back in 2000. Both were in continuity though.

Legends of the Dark Knight has nothing to do with the current Batman stuff. I haven't bothered with it for a number of years, so I couldn't give you an opinion there. There's also All-Star Batman & Robin (out of continuity) which you'll find varying opinions on. It's Frank Miller writing and Jim Lee's art, which draws some people and it's 'grittier' in tone. The book's scheduling sucks though and is often late. You could look into Superman/Batman (in continuity, though the timing is sometimes wacky) but that focuses on the team-up of the title characters and more expansive threats rather than a Batman-specific storyline.

If you're current, all you really need to stay that way is Batman and Detective.

Then that looks the the way it'll be. I'm thumping through the IC stuff at the moment and I've got the Face the Face arc that follows. I'll probibally get 52 as well.

So i'll be getting the post face the face 'Batman' and 'Detective' comics. Also I may grap the Monster Men trade and the Man Monk comics as well because they sound pretty cool. Guess I'm all hooked up now, Thanks to All!

I'm one of you now... almost..

Congrats Fallen! You've really "risen" to the occasion of joining us in our Universe here... Good to see another DC Bandwagoneer! (not to be confused with Bandwagoner:))
