Iraq-does staying the course keep us safer?

If we left who would you guys root for to win the civil war? Seriously, I think the damage caused by our going there would be minimized the most by the saddam loyalists winning. anything else, even a democracy, would probably help Alquida.

The question should be, "Does leaving there make us safer?"

After all, terrorists attacked us before we had invaded any country. We weren't bothering anyone.

And as it stands.........6 years and no attacks so far.

No one. Just watch them kill each other, they have to create there own form of government for themselves, of course never having a democracy in its entire history as a country will only make it difficult.

No, but alliances with dubious governments such as Saudi Arabia gives the terrorists ideological purpose and ensure it has follwers in the ME. Not say the terrorists don't have illogical and irrational goals and demands, say being mad at the Spainish defeat of the Moors 510 years ago.

Its highly unlikely that the Baathists will regain power, considering they are hated by the Shiite majority.

I don't think it's keeping us safer.
But if we just packed up and left, we look even worse and invite more Anti-Americanism.

I think of it this way. You know that show Extreme Makeover, where that pretty boy tears down somebody's house and they rebuild it even better?

Well, leaving Iraq would be similar to being on that show, having pretty boy tear down your house and instead of building you a new one, they just leave.

You must be greatly misinformed. To say the US had no presence in the Middle East prior to 9/11 is ignorant at best.

with your last sentence your trying to imply that invading Iraq made us safer. that's like saying my eating mcdonalds for the last six years must have made us safer, beause after all, the whole time I was doing it there weren't any attacks.

but in actuality there has been attacks because of the Iraq war. Successful attacks are launched on our troops every day. And don't say "well that's troops, it's not civillains"

the fact that they are in the military does not diminish the tragedy of their deaths in the least bit. A dead man in the military is still equally dead.

Leaving might make us safer than we would be if we stayed. Our troops are Americans and they wont be dying.
I use the word might, because it's impossible to tell. Iraq is a no win situation.

if the owners of the property tell you to leave? and even try to drive you out by killing you and your home builders? what do you think that pretty boy would do in that circumstance?

Us staying there is creating anti-americanism. What part of them vowing to attack us untill we leave contradicts that? If that's not anti-americanism I dont' know what is.

That's unrealstic, things have changed since the 40 years when the Baathists first came to power. Saddam's mistreatment of the majority of Shiites means they will never be accept a Baathists government.

You can't turn back time and put the tooth paste back in the tube, Saddam has been removed and everyone has to deal withthe fallout from that.
