I think the movie needs somesome who can act and Hunnam can do that AND he has the right look for Danny Rand. He's already well built and a little more muscle couldn't hurt either.

So what if he doesn't know martial arts? Did Matt Damon? No, he learned, Damon was trained in Jeet Kune Do of all things for his role in the Bourne movies. Technology today is so well done that it'd be easy to pull off the stunts. Again I say, for Bourne the fight scene in Tangier with Desh, they filmed each move slowly and when it was finally done sped the finalt scene it make it look fast. Just watch the DVD to see how that scene came together.

Hunnam as Iron Fist and Ray Park for the stunts is how I see it.

I really rate Dacascos, and think he's been criminally underused in Hollywood, but the dudes 45 years old now, and even though i'd love to see him on screen again, he's a pretty daft choice for Danny Rand.

It'd be so easy to cast Iron Fist if he was oriental, but a young, blond, American who is supposedly the greatest Martial Artist in the Marvel Universe - I can see this being pretty hard to cast.

Fundamentally, Iron Fist should be a Martial Arts film first, superhero film second. When your film's a Kung Fu flick, you want someone who can really pull off the abilities of Iron Fist. Not just some blonde actor, no matter how good an actor that guy may be.

He still looks very young though. He can easily pull off playing a character 10 or 15 years younger than he is. The hair? Ever hear of peroxyde? And I think he's of mixed race (if I'm remembering his bio correctly). Bleech his hair and he could pass for a white guy with a tan. He's a good blend of martial arts skill and acting ability. I agree that they should've thought of making an Iron Fist movie years ago when he was much younger. But I still think he can pull it off.

The thing is, Damons fights in the Bourne films are gritty, raw, 'realistic' and quite simple. I love them.

But Iron Fist is supposed to be the greatest martial artist in the Marvel Universe. The fights in an Iron Fist film shouldn't be like the fights in Bourne or Taken, no matter how awesome those fights may be.

Iron Fist is a master of Kung fu. And not our Kung fu, but Kung Fu that exsists in the same world as Thor, Hulk, Spiderman etc. He should be able to do things that make our jaws drop. Ray Park is fine Martial Artist, but there are sooooo many new, up and coming stunt/martial arts/acrobatics guys coming through that eclipse everything that Ray Park can do.

And Charlie Humnam? Seriously? To be honest I've never really been able to take him seriosly since that accent on Green Street.

The casting of Danny Rand is what would make or break an Iron Fist film. If your casting a straight up actor, he'd have to be massivly dedicated - I guess Rain is good example of what a non martial artist can do if you put the effort in - check the videos on YouTube of him training for Ninja Assassin. But id prefer to have the filmakers having the balls to cast an unknown, someone who could really pull of Danny Rand, both in and out of the costume.

So there's a lot of talk in here about casting Danny Rand, but seeing as there's no other thread to ask this question -

Who would you like to see direct?

I wasn't saying that the fight scenes should be like Bourne, I was using Bourne and how they took an actor with no martial arts backround as an example.

I rather they have them as stunt doubles then in the role of Danny Rand. Someone who can give the movie and character some credibility is what the movie needs.

Have you seen him in Sons of Anarchy?

Hunnam is a dedicated actor believe me, he went has far as losing a tooth for one of his fight scenes in Sons of Anarchy. I think he has what it takes to pull of Danny Rand. Lookwise and acting wise.

I don't think an unknown would be a good choice at all....

Two new articles I found on the Iron Fist movie, the first one lists Marvel's next five movies. Iron Fist is listed:

Unlike rival D.C. Comics,'s characters, Marvel's characters are often monstrous (Incredible Hulk) with overly extravagant costumes (Iron Man) that can raise a movie's budget into the stratosphere.

"Most Marvel characters have an over-the-top look with kind of bizarre costumes," said Fishler. "If you did Marvel characters cheaply, it would look hokey. It requires a big budget to make them look real."

That may make a character like Iron Fist attractive to Disney. By summoning his inner chi, Daniel Rand becomes Iron Fist, a superhuman hand-to-hand fighter. Trained by aliens, Iron Fist decided to use his powers as a 'hero for hire' like Luke Cage.

It's not that Iron Fist's costume isn't extravagant, but since the character is a martial arts expert, that could cut back on expensive explosions and out-of-this-world special effects.

And the second:

Which Marvel Hero Will Be Disney's Next Billion Dollar Franchise? (DIS, MVL)

Really hope they do more Immortal iron Fist and less Heroes for Hire

I think with the right director, a Powerman & Iron Fist movie set in 1970s NYC would rock the world.

Conan69, By Crom...that is a great idea! A 70's setting for Power Man Iron Fist would be terrific. My cast would be like this...
1) Danny Rand/Iron Fist-Scott Adkins
2) Luke Cage/Power Man-Dennis Haysbert
3) Colleen Wing-Maggie Q
4) Misty Knight-Aunjanue Ellis
5) Lord Khan- Jet Li
6) Diamondback-Quinton "Rampage" Jackson
and of course several cultists, Ninja, white slavers, or whatever 70's era villains the filmmakers seek out.

Davos the Steel Serpent...?

Prob too young for that though...

That's exactly who I was thinking of for Steel Serpent. Either him, Russel Wong, or Andy Lau.

Russel Wong

Andy Lau

If they were to use so material from Immortal Iron Fist, I think Lau would be a good choice for Zao.

How about Rick Yune for Steel Serpent?

Another good choice. Forgot all about him.

Yeah he plays Rain's rival in the upcoming movie Ninja Assassin. I think he'd be a good choice.

It would definitly rock. Give it a Lalo Shiffrin soundtrack, an afro for Luke Cage and it'd be a perfect Heroes for Hire film.

So with Kevin Feige's comments about the Iron Fist movie, I figured i'd revive this thread.

Kevin Feige's comments:

I think what Ed Brubaker and Matt Fraction have done with Iron Fist lately is great, and the Iron Fist mythology opens up a whole other part to us.

http://www.superherohype.com/news/thornews.php?id=9019

Even Stan Lee had this to say on twitter:

Ant Man is just one of the many wild treats Marvel has planned for you, such as Iron Fist, Dr. Strange, Black Panther and more, more, more!

Basing the movie off Brubaker and Fraction's run on Immortal Iron Fist would be the best way to go, there's so much potential there.

Now for the casting of Danny Rand, so far the two choice across the web have been:

Charlie Hunnam:

and

Cam Gigandet:

2nbhw6w.jpg

I think both would be good choices. Hunnam auditioned for Thor, maybe this time around he can get the role of Rand. Gigandet is a practitioner of the martial art Krav Maga so atleast it's a start when it comes to fighting.

For the director, I think Ang Lee would be a great choice. He already directed a movie involving a Marvel hero and Iron Fist would be a perfect fit for him.

So any other suggestions?

I think those are the two clear (that are well known) choices. Hunman is perfect but Gigandet would be fine by me.

How about Zoe Saldana for Misty? I think she'd have good on screen chemistry with Hunnam.

Reposting these pics from the "Cast the Marvel Universe" thread:

Charlie Hunnam and Ryan Gosling are my two choices for Iron Fist.

This video of Gosling was taken just two days ago:

Despite what's being said in the video I only posted it just to show Gosling's in great shape and really looks the part.

Now I think both are good choices, but i'm edging toward Gosling for Danny Rand. The video I posted above has me sold. It's worth noting that Gosling was also in an episode of "Kung Fu: The Legend Continues", and the episode of all names was "Dragon's Lair". :hehe:
