whats this talk about black widow having her own armor....

I think The Mandarin's rings should be tech-based, and he himself is a scientist not unlike Stark who created the rings that he wore. It would be technology vs technology, but instead of two armors against each other it would be armor vs rings. The Mandarin should wear some protective gears, though, and no Fu Manchu mustache either. Make him look modern like Stark. Anyway, that's my .02.

i like you idea....rings vs armor...and he should wear NO armor....he should be so refined as a businessman, and as a scientist/leader/etc. that he was able to concentrate the tech based powers in these tiny little rings, showing himself to not only be above Stark in terms of technology and intelligence, but also looking at Stark as "beneath" him ,as he has to wear crude metal suits for his powers...

with China emerging not only as a world power in the military sense, but also technological and economical,it would make sense to have him be a Chinese version of Tony Stark, only "more refined"...spiritual where Tony is impulsive...married ( 10 wives, but still)where Tony is a Playboy...quiet,in the shadows where Tony is narcissistic and a pop icon....compact tech in Rings vs in you face power tech in Suits...self-made billionaire who came from poverty vs genius rich boy who inherited his wealth...

he should be the same as Stark, yet his complete opposite....

I like the sound of that....

And why wouldn't it make sense for a Chinese actor to play Mandarin? Favreau confirmed the symbols in the Ten Rings flags were Mongolian symbols.

Why wouldn't it make sense for a Frenchactor to play Mandarin? Favreau confirmed the symbols in the Ten Rings flags were Italiansymbols......

it doesn't make any sense

thanks!

his background,i'd have him be the son of poor Chinese factory workers, born with an extremely high IQ...he'd do a reverse Stark,in that he'd start out with an ideal of wanting to help people, seeing the conditions his family and friends lived in...but after his parents deaths in his teens by the Communist government,he discovers things like greed,corruption,etc...he becomes a "ward of the state" and they use his intellect to build machines,weapons,etc...he becomes so successful that he basically uses the government to further his own agenda: world domination ...not in the typical " I Want To Rule The World" methods, but more of a Ra's Al Ghul "The World Needs a Savior" model...only HE can bring order to all the chaos...and if he needs to work with evil elements to have his plans come to fruition,so be it..he starts his own company,The Ten Rings, and funnels money to the Communist Regime, and high-ranking officials so they leave him alone...he helps out terrorist groups by supplying them with technology and weapons, keeping wars going on around the world to not only distract people from seeing what he's doing, but to also further the chaos that he believes will be society's downfall, and his rise as the leader of the New Order established after society's collapse...when one of his arms-supplying contracts,Stark Industries, gives him a "golden egg" by having Tony Stark delivered into his lap,it's the Mandarin who orders Raza not to kill Stark, like Stane requested, but to use him,see what he can make, see what he's capable of...Raza CLEARLY knows Stark is building a suit ( he sees Tony testing out the leg mechanisms on camera) ,and the Mandarin orders Raza to let him continue...however,Raza had his own plans (hence the "You have til tomorrow to assemble my missile" line),and allows Stane to kill Raza without reprecussions,as he was getting "too big for his britches" by diobeying him,and Stark's destruction of a lot of theit infrastructure and weapons made the Afghanistan terrorist cell pretty much dead weight to the Mandarin at that point...

he's content to allow Stark to run around, get his glory, thin he's "doing good",playing hero in his little suit and with is little toys...til he starts to REALLY give him headache's (Justin Hammer's expected defeat in IM2) ,and decides,he's caused him issues more than once, and takes a more personal approach and comes out of the shadows to deal with the emerging threat of Tony Stark personally...

Excuse me Captain PC, Mandarin should be played by an Asian man, not a Middle Eastern person.

happy?

saw the trailer, and whilst the trailer was amazing, and the suitcase armor was AWESOME, this is why I don't watch trailers : I was spoiled. :(

Yeah... I already warned my friend to stay away from any footage or images of Iron Man 2. Telling him there are too many awesome moments that get spoiled. I wish I would've seen that suitcase for the first time on the big screen.

 this.

Tomorrow, Hot Toys is going to give a clue on one of "Iron Man 2" figures:

"Guess what will be up tomorrow? Here’s the hint - I M 2 W M T!". That was it!"

Double post.

BTW: When the new episode of "American Idol" is going to air? I am asking, 'cause Jon said: - "Full Iron Man trailer coming up on American Idol..."

Very slightly off-topic: were the Mandarin's rings ALWAYS alien-tech, or is this a retcon? Mind you, I haven't read the early Mandarin stuff, or his first appearance in Tales of Suspense #50 - but I have read the re-told origin story in the Dragon Seed saga, etc.

Were they originally supposed to be "magic" rings, with later creative teams expanding the origin of the rings as the Makluan alien technology? One of those "later revealed to be" stories?

The reason I ask is, I think it'd be much better if they were actually "magic" in the movie - this would be a drastic contrast from what Stark is used to and can wrap his head around - it would be a great challenge to try to defeat an opponent whose weaponry he cannot understand via science.

Strange, that is not a big improvement over the first IM, which was 121 minutes.

yeah, but they don't have to cover the whole origin - how he got hurt, the ARC reactor, building the suits, etc. - they can just jump right into the story, assuming you know who most of the characters are...they don't have to use half the movie to set up the universe...

I believe it's fake. Before Iron Man came out, there were also reports of a very short running time that were later proved untrue. I've also seen a 152 minutes running time been mentioned. I find that more likely and better.
