Iron Man Iron Man run time - under 2 hours

The original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is only 90 minutes.

Yeah but...that was teenage mutant ninja turtles....

And one of the best comic to film adaptions ever made.

Including a full origin

And there's not much else...Superhero movies nowadays have been clocking in at 2+ hours, and the ones that aren't (Fantastic four, for example) completely sucked. It's just sort of a surprise to hear that Iron man, who's original cut was right under 3 hours, is gonna be under 2. That's a pretty big cut. And if i'm not making sense, I don't blame you :oldrazz:

I was so happy with C-Con footage, but running time news has just broken all fun for me :(

2 hours as max??? It's like another FF or X-Men! Too short for such huge blockbuster. I guess Marvel are more likable to earn money than to make a quality movie :down

It reminds me days when I couldn't wait for Spidey 3, which turned out as one of the worst summer blockbusters of this summer. I hope the same won't happen with IM, though it's possible.

if you delete 1 hour footage then you lose the whole story.

Not necessarily. Quite often films will be extremely long in their first assembly cut...a lot of it having to do with Timing and flow, etc. A lot of tightening is generally done with films so that there aren't lulls when there aren't supposed to be.

Pay attention to what Favreu says, people:

Favreau: No, I hope not. I looked at a cut and the longest cut of everything was a little less than 3 hours, which isn't that long for a first cut. It will be below 2 by the time it comes out. So, I have a lot of decisions to make.

Hes saying that most films are incredibly long when first put together, cutting is what makes a film the right length. He didn't make a complete film then chop away an hour of it, he's just tightening it up. Happens to all movies.

for all we know the just under 2hr runtime can change. Favreau and the editors can always change their minds and it could end up being over 2 hrs for the runtime

X-Men and X3 were 1 hr. 44 mins. I could see Iron Man clocking in about that much time and not sucking.

After the Fantastic Four 2 fiasco, noway is Favs going to realease a 90 min movie.

Well this is underwhelming I believe that IM should clock at 2:15 min or so but less than 2 hrs. It could affect the phase in a bad way and rush things killing the buildup of the first half which should take its time to build the characters and establish the origin and give them the needed depth.
Iam beginning to worry.

... he is already editing? Wow .. its looks bad for the CGI stuff..

Post-production has just started and Favreau explicitly said that the Comic Con trailer has mostly (if not entirely) practical effects. There's been very little CG work done yet.

What is it with Marvel and they ubber short movies??? FF2 and now this...but considering this looks amazing, 1h of cut material is tremendous. Really bad news!

I spoke to early. I fear that this is my doing. In the Bat-threads earlier today I stated that there wasn't a thing that I could pick out of IM that I could disagree with (giving that I don't have any plot-details), and then this happened.

Ideally for this movie I would shoot for 2 hours and 10-15 minutes (well, 2 hours minimum). Usually origin movies need a little more time, otherwise they feel rushed.

Oh grow up!

This is not ruining the film. This is like the one potential weak spot of the movie so everyone is jumping on it because they have nothing else to complain about.

I trust Favreau to make the best film possible. I'm fairly sure he will.

Shorter does not always mean worse. Sometimes scenes drag on and it's better for them to be cut out of the film or shortened.

i still want to see a movie where they deleted 1 hour of footage. yes i knwo that you have to tighten the movie. but 1 hour of footage?

that's a lot, indeed.

I'm just hoping it's paced well and the scenes have weight to them. I don't want it to be like X3 compared to X2. X3 would constantly jump to the next scene and the next scene and so on without letting anything sink in.

Only seen Elf and Made from Favreau, so I don't yet have a full idea how his editing for this is going to turn out.

The question is, did you like those movies? Did he handle character development and story well? Not to mention what we've seen, the practical effects work is great.

Every movie ever made. Seriously, you have no idea how movies are made.

Read what Favreau said, 3 hours is SHORT for a first cut. Most movies are much, much longer.

I felt story wise he did a good job on both. Character developement I guess was decent for Made and good for Elf. The thing is, both of those movies are entirely different from each other and waaaay different then this film. Which is basically a major action movie. I'm hoping there will be a good level of drama to it as well though.

i think many of you would be suprised as to how many of your favorite movies are under 2 hours. get a list of your top 19 favorites and go do some research. youll be suprised what can be done in 1 hr 54 minutes.

Considering there are only three major action set pieces.

Capture/Escape the cave
The dogfight
Iron Man versus the Iron Monger

I'd bet the movie ends up at a hour and fifty minutes. It's better to leave the audience full than overstuffed. An hour and thirty is short for any movie. X-Men was a team movie so to shine on multiple characters required a 2hr film. Tony Stark is the main character so like Spidey, around two hours is about right.

Oh and the list thing. Comedies and kid flicks never cross 2 hours so they wouldn't count anyway.

You more or less emphasised the point I made earlier, regarding Spider-Man.
That was about 110 minutes I think it was, and that is one of the best origin movie comic book films ever (my favourite anyway :cwink: ) :hyper:
