Just a hypothetical question for everyone...

If there were NO comics to draw from, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe was entirely constructed from screenwriters and all original stories... would Tony Stark's Iron Man be the main villain for Avengers Infinity War?

After watching the Civil War trailer, that's the random thought I had...

The Marvel movies are always bashed for not having very good villains (Loki, Kingpin, and now Killgrave are said to be the only decent villains)... if Iron Man was the Avenger's main villain, talk about an in-depth character who audiences would LOVE as much as they HATE.

Seems like Iron Man loves to tinker and that tinkering always has world-wide consequences. I could easily see him going off the deep-end and doing something insane, even though in his mind it's reasonable and good and the right thing to do. If there were not any comicbooks to base the Marvel movies on (no Thanos, etc.)... I think Iron Man as the main villain would be the obvious route for the Cinematic Universe.

Thoughts?

It is pretty clear, that Iron Man is not the villain in "Captain America 3: Civil War".
He is just on a different side as Cap, and is "misled"...
(hope, that is not a spoiler?!)

Iron Man would be a good villain, but it does not make any sence to make him the villain. What would be his reason? What his goal?

I'd rather they make an effort to make Thanos a good villain. I have confidence the Russos will do so - the Civil War trailer looks fantastic and I'm not even a diehard MCU guy.
