The scene where Stark takes off in the mark 2 for the first time or the scene where Clark takes his first flight, which of the two is the superior scene?

I must say that despite Iron Man being a superior film MOS' first flight scene is an amazing isolated scene. A perfect harmony of Zimmers' swelling score, breathtaking sound design and Zack Snyder's impeccable compositions makes for an amazing three minutes.

Iron Man. Its a moment of pure joy and excitement, the payoff for the second act of the movie, and logically derives from both the scenes before and the characterization.

Iron Man. I had high hopes for the man of steel first flight but it was not as amazing as i thought it would be.

I think Iron Man was more...Yeah this rocks and is awesome and cool. While Man of Steel's to me was more iconic and more awe to finally see Superman flying right on screen. The close up while flying seemed off a little, but the take off with his fist to the ground and the flying around the mountains, flying over water, and then the mid air stop and then push into space was incredible.

Iron Man. While both were CGI-fests the Iron Man one didn't feel like it. Plus it actually had story building elements in it rather than just "ok I learned to fly, well got that checked off the list". Iron Man's flight also had elements that would come into play later in the story in a very organic way(icing problem). MoS's ain't got anything like that.

And right you are.

I think the CGI of the original Iron Man is the best he's had on-screen.

Superman's all the way, all of the flying shots in the film were much better than anything in the IM films but that's just my opinion.

Iron Man of course.

Superman flying through the sky/hitting the mountain looked really pointless. Was he practicing to fly, was it done to add another CGI-fest scene in the movie, I don't really see the need of it for the story. I also felt like he just flew away because he got his Superman outfit.

The music during Supe's first flight wins - but the Iron Man first flight scene is simply superior.

Superman's flight had better music but overall Iron Man's flight felt more rewarding and eventful.

He was practising to fly.

To be honest, I felt like that scene was added just to win over the audience with the film's visuals.

It was meant to show Clark realizing the strength he had with the ability of flight. I felt that, but I admit it could have been done better.

The only music I recall as memorable in the entire film of MoS was Jor-El's escape from Zod's men on Krypton. I think Arcade was the track name. Other than that I forgot MOS actually had a score.

Iron Man's first flight for sure.

Mos. The problem was showing such an epic moment in the trailers a year before it came out.

Good question! Gotta go with Iron Man. I loved that he loved it and made it cool and fun as he learned.

From a different perspective, IM (first movie ) was a great film, far superior to its sequels. Having said that I liked MOS as a film better,
but I'm a Super-fan, so I'm biased.

Anyway, what was said above, in respect of that scene I agree wholeheartedly. Yes, Iron Man was a great adaptation of the character for the screen, but from the moment the ship door opens and Cavill walks out as Superman, I remember saying to myself "Whoah, THAT is what Superman looks like." right from then , the scene was awesome.

The iron man scene was fun, and comical, but Supes first flight was a moment where the character finds himself, for the first time in his life.
Waaayyy more significant.

It's like, IM is "I'm Tony Stark, look at what I can build, a flying suit, I'm so cool. Check me out." which is fine, but MOS is like " I can fly, because this is who I am." a lot deeper. It's the first time Clark sees his powers as a gift, rather than a curse.

All IMO of course, but that's how I see it.

Superman flight doesn't have the 'can we do that too?' moment because other than it's been done before in the 70's movie, Superman is a super powered alien. Almost everybody know Supes main feat is flight. Tony Stark is human, his achievement owed by his tech ingenuity and connects with the audiences more. If Stark could fly inside an exosuit, ordinary people someday could do too.

That is an interesting argument. that you prefer IM because you could
one day do that too.

I believe you are fully entitled to your opinion. But your reason for holding that opinion seems to raise some logical issues.

1) Are you familiar with the superhero paradigm ? Often the "super" refers to the fact that they possess abilities that normal humans do not, and could never have. In saying it's been done before, well, Superman was the first super-hero, he's been around for 75 years so actually, he did it first.

2) If you can only enjoy a character's exploits because of the "we can too" factor, then you must not really enjoy the triumphs of Thor, Spider-man, or the Hulk. Surprisingly people often do enjoy seeing Wolverine win fights, despite the fact he's functionally unkillable.

In the same way, many enjoy Superman immensely, although he defies most of the laws of physics or biology. We can never be like him, but we can still enjoy his stories.
(e.g. his first flight being an important moment in the character's development where he first comes to terms with his alien heritage, and accepts his true identity)

So, in summary, saying you prefer IM to MOS because you just enjoyed it more is cool. But, if it's because of the "we can too" factor (are you a billionaire, genius, playboy, with a completely impossible fusion reactor in your chest ? ok, then let's put that aside) anyway, you are limiting yourself to a very small portion of the superhero genre.

Personally, I hated Harry Potter, but several billion people disagreed with me, despite the fact that none of them had functional wands, invisibility cloaks or could speak to snakes.

In closing, I would argue that the precise reason people like those stories, is because they don't have those amazing, but imaginary things.
A lot of us like superheroes, not because we'd like them to be like us, but because we'd like to be like them.
