R rating (18 cert, in the UK) ..... Does not a great movie make.

Would Die hard 4 have been better with more gore and f-bombs? ....... No. The script / acting / casting / direction ... were the problem.

Making good movies is 'better' .....

I see it like this:

A Batman movie: PG-13
The Batman Sequels: R
Punisher: R
Hulk: R
Spider-Man: PG
Spider-Man Sequels: PG-13
X-Men: PG-13
Wolverine: R
Daredevil: R
Deadpool: R
Superman (With Luthor as the Villain): PG
Superman with any other villain: PG-13
Superman Vs Doomsday: R
The Avengers: PG-13
Justice League: PG or PG-13
The Flash: PG
Wonder Woman: PG-13
Green Arrow: PG-13
Green Lantern: PG-13
Iron Man: R (why? the sex and alcohol)
Star Wars Episode 3: R so we can see him killing those kids and jedis so we actually learn to HATE him and not just pitty him

IF you're doing an adaptation or remake of an already established property, you already know if the material is PG, PG-13, R or whatever. Making something that's always been for ages 7-77 R rated to be more realistic and gritty is stupid.

As most peope have stated it depends on the movie.

Shrek doesn't need to be rated R.

Action I think should always e rated R. They always seem so held back these days. Things that wouldn't logically happen for the sake of a PG 13 rating.

^As far as action, it's still fantasy. Tv shows and cartoons and comics that are fantasy based, if you create live action versions you kinda have to tow the line.

Obviously it depends on the movie, and if the movie has mature themes then yes, its better to be R-rated.

Yeah , it depends on the movie . You can be good and not need an R rating . I don't think more gratuity or language makes a movie any better unless the movie is so bad that it's only redeeming quality is boobies and heads blowing up.

Depends on the movie, yeah. I wouldn't have even gone to see Watchmen if it'd been PG-13, because there's no way a PG-13 movie ever could have done the comic justice. In most cases, though, it doesn't matter too much. You can get away with a lot in a PG-13 movie if you know how to. LOTR and TDK are good examples.

R to me means the director had alot more creative freedom

I think I prefer R over PG-13, because PG-13 is basically used as a marketing tool to reel in teenagers. However, I do hate the R-rated films that do their absolute best to go overboard. One good R-rated movie that I can always say could've worked in either case as a PG-13 or R-rated film is 'Terminator 2'. Same as how 'Titanic' could've either been PG-13 or R due to the subject-matter.

Some directors need to be reined in, and PG-13 is the way to do it.

It all depends on the story and where it goes in the script. You shouldn't think about it when you're making a movie. Once it passes through the officials, it's in their hands to decide.

I don't think the rating has anything to do with the plot. Unless it has to be heavily trimmed to meet a rating, then that's a problem.

I agree Live Free or Die Hard was better as the Unrated R version. Terminator Salvation was fine being PG-13. Some movies need an R rating, others dont.

I always find it hilarious when people say they want an R rated Batman movie. Batman DOES NOT need to be R rated, folks.

I see it like this:

A Batman movie: PG-13
The Batman Sequels: R
Punisher: R

Well the other thing to consider is that PG-13 these days is certainly not what it used to be and people can push the envelope in that rating, to be sure.

I mean 'Cloverfield' was PG-13, but in my opinion that's a pretty hard PG-13 (most definately with the scene where Marlena 'explodes')...almost to the point where I'd be inclined to say that it should've been R.

Gary Kogel actually did a small expose about a year ago about how a lot films that are given the PG-13 rating just on the basis of a small amount of language or what have you actually deal with content or material that's harder than you'd think PG-13 would be.

Terminator Salvation was a neutered and boring movie, if ever a Terminator movie needed to be an R rating it was this one.

It also made Moon Bloodgood's casting pointless.

i like also that comedys are again R. some movies that were PG13 worked.

look for exampel the Farrelly brothers. There's Something About Mary was R. Me, Myself & Irene was R. both movies IMO great. then they make Stuck on You. PG13 of course. some funny moments but i always got a feeling that they were holding back. and then they both go back to R with The Heartbreak Kid.

My myself and Irene was terrible

If your action movie is gun fight oriented then it must be R. That's pretty much it for me.

It really depends. In some instances like in Alien vs. Predator, Live Free or Die Hard, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and Night at the Museum, an R-rating would have been incredibly beneficial to the movie.

However in some instances like in Watchmen (granted that it needed the R-rating), the director goes a little too far with it than he/she should.

And in others like in Terminator Salvation, it really isn't a big deal.

It's better in the sense that when it comes to mature-oriented stories, the R-rating gives you great leeway in whatever you want to put on screen. Barring some truly excessive imagery, you pretty much have free reign. Creatively speaking, that's a major relief.

Whereas with PG-13, you will have to cut corners and be a bit more creative.

Uwe Boll negates every positive aspect of the R rating. Every movie of his has been R.

Well I see it like this...

Rated R: Wolverine, Punisher.
I wouldn't care too much if it turned out to be R: Batman, Daredevil

The rest however are perfectly fine as PG-13 films.

To me, R doesn't mean better it depends on the film. However a lot of times its pretty obvious that studios will make a film PG-13 just to make money....so when I see that for a film it kind of makes me upset.
