Is Clark Kent / Superman on SMALLVILLE, not as powerful/smart as you would think?

For the record I didn't just say I was friends with whomever for the heck of it. It's true. I'm not being facetious.

I think you misunderstood me. I was making a sincere comment that at one point the same people arguing or who appear to have distaste were indeed quite civil. Being nostalgic I suppose you could say.

More a general comment but thanks for asking.
no problem
he might not have as big as a kick but it gets the job done
yeaa... i guess

but he gets the job done against meteor freaks

and has a ton of luck against zoners

not to mention, he defeated zod with another one of his damn crystals

think if he ever faces someone he can't beat, and beats them... then his strength will be OUT of character.

JcDc, Triplet - if you guys have anything further to say, then just take it to PM.

Actually, he can't PM me since I've got him on ignore, but I'll leave him alone from now on. Not worth it....

Thing is that the only way to build strenght is by working your muscles. His powers should be no different just because he is or will be Superman. Everytime the bar is raised by a new villian he is forced to "work out" his powers and they become stronger for it.

As for his intelligence, in Birthright I remember Clark saying I'm not smart i can just read fast. Now that's not to say he is stupid, but it also means that he shouldn't just know things, he has to learn all this first. Chloe knows how to hack, Clark doesn't, doesn't mean he's dumb, he just hasn't ever learned to do it. I mean i like to think I have a decent level of intellegnce, but I would need to find a Chloe to hack as well/

Cocka doodle doooooooo!:cmad: :woot:

Clark Kent aka Kal-El aka Superman has been on earth and exposed to a yellow sun for at least 10+ years now.

Most of the time, when I watch the show, I feel like he can and should do so much more, whether its physically or mentally.

Frequently I see Clark's expression show that of someone struggling, when I would think 99% of the stuff he's done on SMALLVILLE should be a piece of cake for the comic book or movie Superman.

Also, isn't he supposed to be super intelligent? (among his dozen other qualities)..... Why is he such a dumbass all the time?

Do TPTB downgrade Clarks abilities, on purpose? If so, why?

Anyone agree? Disagree?

Discuss..
yes he's weak and an idiot

the idiot thing is usually done when telling a tale of growth though, it's happened in both the prequels and sequels of star wars with the main characters being easily led and unsure of their own potential (anakin and luke respectively) and having a guru lead them (emperor and obi-wan/yoda respectively). This same comparison has also been done in the matrix with neo being the idiot with power and morpheus being his guru believer.

the difference with these trilogies and movies is the longer the saga is stretched out, the more idiotic the main character needs to be and since smallville is infinitely longer than anymovie trilogy, clark looks like a completely dumb tool who doesn't know his left from his right, it almost hurts to watch everyone else push him into becoming a hero, which i always thought was a choice clark would have made on his own to use his gifts for the benefits of others. It doesn't help that some of his surround cast members can't FIGURE out by now something is up with him, especially lex and lana who sometimes make clark look like einstein in comparison, urgh...

such is the problem when stretching out a part of someone's life and making a story out of it when it's not really there. the important parts of his upbringing are being neglected fot 'freak of the week' drama but screw it...

Everything was fine with that statement and then... Triplet throws in the "not worth it" routine. Yeah way to listen and just drop it

a lot of other users do that as well

they always wanna be 'better' and get the last word. i guess its human nature

just sayin..

Classic example:

I just saw Tomb tonight on ABC family...

Chloe told Clark to punch through a mirror & wall, which revealed a skeleton

the look on Clarks face before / during punching made me think he was trying to move a mountain.

seriously his look shoulda been something like

*smirk*... piece of cake... *rolleyes at chloe*... *BOOM... wall everywhere*

but nah his face told me this was hard.

As to the argument that has every other character leading Clark around by a leash, people need to watch Justice again. Clark either asks or tells Chloe to do everything she does in that ep (involving her and the other heroes), he's hard on Bart believing that Bart has gone back to his thieving ways but is willing to listen to explanations because he's a "smart guy," and the team looked to Clark for his approval first before blowing up the Ridge Facility at the end. Clark's considered the "big guns" by the other heroes, and while his absence from the team won't stop them from doing what they do best, he was at the literal center of the group at the end of their mission.

You think my saying what I did was because I wanted to get the last word?

That's not the case at all, and as easys as it is for both me and Jc to let our emotions to get the better of us when trying to deal with each other, I would think that my now thinking fighting with him as not being "worth it" as a good thing, yet he mocks me...

You can never win.

*sigh*

Indeed.

Clark is a leader and is smart, why can't people see that?

Sometimes I think it's like we're not watching the same show.
