Comics Is Colosuss......?

My question to you is why Spider-Man, why Wolverine, cause they are the most popular, thats just STUPID, neither of them have ever shown any signs of homosexuality. Ultimate Colossus did from the beginning, so apperently you dont know what your talking about, some fans only read the Ultimate line, that is regular continuity for them. I really dont know what your obsession with gay characters having to be the bissest stars and only in the 616 universe.

If the issue is so unimportant ... then why bring it up at all?

I can understand that you interpreted it wrong, but I dont really get what your saying.

I didn't interpret your statement incorrectly. I understood that you were indicating that they have a large number of characters.

I was indicating that perhaps the number of characters is less important that the "Popularity" of the character.

I didnt you are the one who got all hissy about 616 Colossus not being gay.

So yes you did interpret it wrong, cause I'm not talking about the large number of characters Marvel has, but simply that there are a large number of gay people, not just in Marvel but the real world. Some Marvel teams having a gay character is very realistic, everybody in the real world probably either knows a gay person or have a friend thats gay but isnt out of the closet.

I didn't get hissy. I got angry. I got angry because Marvel does stupid things.

If being gay is so unimportant that they can do it with any character, then why not Logan, Peter, Tony? While Manic is right that this would be seen as a potential money grab, if Marvel really cares to make a statement about homosexuality ... do it with a character that shows they are committed.

In the regular continuity. And as for not showing signs .. do you have some kind of comic Gay-dar? That is the whole point of someone coming out that you don't expect. Sometimes it is the one who has struggled all their life and it is a hard decision or one that comes later in life.

Does that explain it clearly enough for you? Did I help you understand what I am saying?

There a lot of gay people. Does that mean that Marvel has done the right thing by having one in every team? Does that make them better than DC?

How does doing it with Hulking and Wiccan not show commitment, I'm tired, it's late, I wanna go to bed. Marvel has invested a lot into these characters, Wiccan is related to Magneto, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Polaris, Hulking is the son of Captain Mar-Vell. No I still dont understand your point and how you think Marvel cant be commited just becuase they arent using Marvel A+- Listers to be gay, I just really dont understand you. I do understand that somebody can finally come out of the closet even when they're 50, but when you read Spider-Man he isnt hiding amything from you, he doesnt know your reading the comic, he doesnt know he a comic book character, he has no reason to hide it from people he doesn;t know are there, he's never shown one sign of being gay, it wouldn't make sense, do you understand. You dont need Gay-Dar when you've read about the character for years or decades and the character has never shown one sign of homosexuality.

Fine. So Marvel will continue along with the current approach and when DC has Batman or Supes come out of the closet ... then?

Having many gay characters, and having one present in many teams, just shows, that in one comic the gay issus might be a big deal and in another comic, its not. Because that is very similar to real life. Do you get it? Probably not.
No it doesnt make them better than DC, never said they where. Your not just twisting words your trying to put words in my mouth.

And they never will. I could maybe see Batman but not Superman, look at Supes relationship to Lois. Batman would be more believable than Spider-Man or Wolverine, Batman never has steady relationships, he doesnt have a one true love like Wolverine (Jean Grey), Spider-Man (Mary Jane/Gwen Stacy)

I do get that. You have been defending Marvel and putting DC down so I was asking if you think Marvel's approach makes them a better company.

At the end of the day I still question why they have chosen the characters they have. Do you get that?

Batman has had many women he has loved. Deeply. The question was about DC choosing to address homosexuality with an A-lister and what you would think of them at that point.

I am just having a dialogue with you. Please don't stay up on my account or feel that you need to get the last word in. The thread will be here tomorrow.

I do understand why you question the characters they have chosen, but I hope you understand that if they made some of the characters your talking about gay, it would be very out of character, and I think it would do the oppisite of money grabbing, I think Marvel or DC would lose readers cause its so out of character and untrue.

Yes he has but he doesnt constantly have a Jean Grey or a Mary Jane in his life .
As long as it wasnt out of character than its cool.

I guess ultimately that is my concern. Are they doing it for a character to develop the story, or to make a stand or to make money.

In the end that is why this particular idea of Colossus is so odd to me. I understand it is an alternate version but I guess my reaction is that it is not to develop the character or to take a stand or create dialogue.

I guess in my mind that is where the rubber hits the road. When DC choose to do the GA/GL story and said nuts to the code they made a stand to expose drug use and the impact it had on individuals and relationships.

You could be completely correct and it is only my view and I am completely off base, but with all of the conversations going on right now, I wonder who the character could be.

As for not knowing someone, I have been surprised by several people who have "come out" later in life and I did not think it was in their character. I agree that we get to read the "thoughts" of the characters but still ... it would be an amazing statement or stand to take for one of the companies ...

i guess that is the million dollar question ... how do we really know a fictional character?

Canadian Rider, can you please tell me what the problem is with ULTIMATE Colosuss being gay? Are you made because marvel suddenly mad him gay out of no where? Let me tell you somethings...

1. This is not the same character as the 616 version, as I'm sure you already know. These characters do NOT have to be the same as the ones which they're based on. The whole POINT of the Ultimate MU was to get more new readers into comics or for old readers to read less confusing stories. Make it feel like it's real. And trust me, there are a LOT of gay people in the world. Some people you know may even be gay which leads me to the next point.

2. Why make him gay? or Why do they have to make gay characters?... What type of question is that? I mean, really, you have no idea how it is to be gay. Do you know how many Gay teens kill themselves because they're gay? Because they feel Unwanted? Because they feel like their feelings are wrong? Don't you get that we know that some people don't like us, even though we are as normal as you? What Marvel did for me, by giving us gay characters, was showed that they accepted us.

We want characters that we can relate to just like you have. I'm sure I'm not the only person who's thought "Why don't they have any gay characters? Why can't Peter parker hook up with Flash or something? This charater or that character is hot. Why can't they show a gay character can be as normal as a straight character?"

3. I've been reading Ultimate X-men since issue 1. It tooks years, hear me, YEARS, For peter to come out. It didn't happen out of nowhere. They've mostly always hinted at it. Years of hinting. What you have to realize is that this book was not for long time readers. Again, It was mostly for people who've probably never read a comic before with characters that they've probably never heard of or know very little about.

As was said before, There are gays all over the world and many of them read comics. Most of us want to relate with a character. We can relate with a straight character, that's no problem, but there is a difference. It's nice that there are gays that are in comics, in music, on tv. Why should we have be closeted?

Please read the debate Comicboy. You have missed Canadian Rider's point completely. He's not advocating the closeting of gay people, he's advocating more high-profile characters being made gay, instead of 'b/c-listers' like Colossus.

Meh, I was reading it, then it became too much. I'll still leave it.
