Pete banging Black Cat would be infinitely less interesting than watching a man's deep struggle to tow the line between being an unappreciated superhero constantly putting his life on the line and a man one step away from dying, widowing his wife and leaving his child(ren) fatherless. It should always be about him having every reason to just give up being Spidey and all the BS that comes with that, but refusing to do so because it's not right.
I say keep the marriage. Make the stories more human.
The more of that kind of stuff you throw into the books, the better. Keep giving the guy every possible reason to quit being Spidey. By making him single, you make it easier for him to be Spider-man, not harder.
